Epic music for an epic writer. Also, with the lyrics not that audible, I don't get distracted by the great poetry.

Huh... Out of the big 4 Megadeth are by far and away my least favourite. Ah well. Different tastes and all that.

I'd listen to something more relaxing, like Jack Johnson or Newton Faulkner, maybe Sublime or something. If it's too exciting and uptempo I get distracted, if it's to depressing I lose the will to continue.

I tend to keep music very much background/quiet when writing---aggressive power metal is extremely distracting. I prefer Liszt, Brahms, and Schubert for writing.

Probably something like Explosions in the sky or something else unobtrusive.

Video game soundtracks are well suited to this I find.

You need something that is unobtrusive but rhythmic, so my recommendation is Nisennenmondai.
(not their best song, but it's the only one I can find on youtube that isn't a live recording or from their other, noisier album)
