To Idiot Television Council

1: Games have a rating system (much like movies or music) to aid in preventing the more "harmful" material from being sold to children.
2: it is the responsibility of parents to know this rating system and monitor what their kids buy, rent, play, etc.
3: You are idiots.
4: Games are an emerging form of art. While it is still in the early stages of becoming true art, it is something you'll just have to accept.
5: I've seen more violence, swearing, sex, and so forth in schools than in most of the games I play.
6: Better parenting solves pretty much any problem you may have with the whole "Games are the devil" thing. It's also much easier to be better parents yourselves than for EVERYONE ELSE to have to conform to what you think everyone else should do.
7: You are idiots.

I rest my case.
[*does my best impression of said idiot TV council*] OHH MY GOD!!!!, THERE'S VIOLENCE, SEX, SWEARING, ETC. IN SCHOOL!, BAN!, MUST BAN TEACHING AND SHUT DOWN ALL SCHOOLS!

I enjoy the fact that there are so many organizations out there that entirely forget TVs aren't very hard to turn off. I think there needs to be a large campaign of people sending letters/e-mails/pizzas to the PTC with step by step instructions on how to turn off a TV. With what they're saying about the Supreme Court's ruling, we also need to send them instructions on how to turn off game consoles and how to read the little box on the game that says why you shouldn't buy COD:MW for little Junior!

Seriously, they need those instructions, who's in?

For petes sake...

You see these? These are on the front and back cover of every video game being sold today. They determine whether or not a game is appropriate or not for a young child. We DON'T NEED a law to enforce this kind of thing.

Besides, stores like GameStop are already required to not sell games that are M rated to minors. Unless a parent is there to buy the game for them. In which case, the employee will warn the parent ahead of time of the content within the game. Which is described on the BACK OF THE BOX. So if anything, it's your fault for buying the violent video game for them in the first place.

Honestly, it's just common sense.

People keep bringing up "Parent more" "Lazy parents" "Shit parents" blah blah blah.

If these people are that incompetent to supervise their children when it comes to gaming then surely a law doing it for them is a good idea. That way children are protected even if their parents aren't the ones doing the protecting.

The idea is to protect all children not just the ones with decent parents.
Or we could try to make the shitty parents straighten up.

"authority of parents"

what? If anything the law would have done exactly what this group is angry about. Any law that does the Parent's job for them is superseding their authority!

How the hell does this replace the authority of parents? You still have control over what your kids can and cannot play. Take some fucking responsibility for your kids and BE A PARENT.
Exactly my point, how does whether video games have first amendment rights or not effect your authority or responsibility as a parent. If you as a parent don't want your children playing violent video games then it is your right and responsibility not to let them play them.

The authority of the parents, interesting choice of words; because it sure seems to me like you're perfectly willing to abdicate your parental authority to the government by supporting this stupid law. It is your job as parents to protect your kids from anything you deem inappropriate or harmful, NOT your governments.
Sorry, this just blows my mind. Pardon me, speaking as a Canadian here, I just don't get this. Are these the same Americans who cry fowl at the prospect of government controlled health care? I mean no offense, but it baffles me that they'd balk at that but be so willing to let the government essentially raise their kids for them.

[HEADING=1]THEN FUCKING WATCH WHAT YOUR KIDS PLAY, ASSHOLE![/HEADING]

Excuse me, couldn't help myself.

Really, these parents need to shutup. No one replaced the parents' authority to watch what their kids played.

Oh man Hahahaha, I laughed harder at your outburst more than I should have....I think mostly because I pictured Ed Elric yelling that out XD.

Either way, truer words have never been spoken.
Put it this way. I remember a while back when I visited my Parents from University my dad wanted to play the New Mortal Kombat with me. (Yes my mom and dad love Mortal Kombat....F*CKING AWESOME PARENTS)

So we played it, but we didn't play it until my lil sis went to bed, because my parents were actually RESPONSIBLE enough to make sure that she doesn't get exposed to those games until a later age. My parents were a bit more lenient for me. :p

Honestly it's like watching a movie with your kids. If you think the movies inappropriate then what do the parents do? You either skip past the bad scenes or you tell them to go to their room, 'cause it's an adult movie. Simple as that. Secondly where I live, you have to show your ID to buy a mature game. There. Problem solved for my city

It's ok the whole stupidity of the situation is baffling if you ask me. They're basically going out of their way so they don't have to monitor what their kids watch and play where as it's a hell of alot easier and less controversial just to not allow their kids to play certain games.

It's PAINFULLY STUPID what they're doing.!
