Ask her if she's seen a normal calendar. Pretty sure the world hasn't ended on the 31st December of any previous year just because that's when the calendars stopped counting. Besides which, I'm pretty sure they found the rest of the Mayan calendar.

The Mayan calender doesn't even end that day- with or without leap years. It's a common misconception. Also, the modern Maya think everyone hyped up over this shit is an idiot. They simply plan on getting drunk and celebrating the beginning of a new bak'tun.
Talk to your siblings. Your mother's a lost cause, I'm afraid (in terms of convincing her the world won't end before christmas), but they aren't.
Have them write down their fears and thoughts in diaries. Won't help much this year, but it will be a great help on the next doomsday that these people think of. Nothing reassures me the world will go on as much as remembering how many fell for the last end of the world.

Like other people, I recommend pointing out to her that if she's religious, the so-called "end of the world" date is from a different culture altogether! If there are other kids involved, try to keep them out of it.
Didn't the mayans say "the world we know is going to end"? And not that it's doomsday anyway.
I thought Shadowrun and Earthdawn rely on that concept of the Mayan Cycles. Every odd cycle magic reappears on earth, that's why Earthdawn is playin' in the 3rd cycle and Shadowrun in the 5th.

You know how some of these people are, no matter how many facts or evidence is presented to them, they won't concede. I'd focus on your siblings first, convince them that its not real. After that, confront your mother and let her know how her superstitious attitude is hurting the family. But definitely make your first priority your siblings.
