I am currently researching the relation between video game habits and personality for an undergraduate thesis using a brief questionnaire survey. The survey assesses attachment style, which refers to how people form close relationships with others, as well as video game behaviors and their usage. Determining the relationship between people?s attachment and their gameplay behaviors will help strengthen our knowledge of how people play games differently, and how video games can affect our sociability based on how we play them. The survey is completely voluntary, and your input will be completely anonymous. The survey requires participants who play video games regularly, if you rarely play video games, or no longer play them then this survey is not for you. You must be 18 or older to complete the survey. The survey is hosted online, and the link is below. Your participation is greatly appreciated and the survey will not take long to complete. If you have any questions about the survey, or if you wish to know more, you may contact the researcher at Christopher.Pollman@ncf.edu. Thank you!

To fellow escapists: It's not a trap. Participate!

to CpollmanNCF: good luck! About the "is videogaming addictive", I'd recommend you differentiate between physically addictive (like certain drugs) and compelling (similar to any other form of entertainment).

Survey completed. Pretty good actually, though the question about addictiveness is too vague.

Good luck with your thesis!

The question worded 'I do not often worry about being abandoned' could be confusing since you're asking people to agree whether they don't do something... nearly tripped me up, but as long as you read it carefully I'm sure it's fine.

One thing I will critize is the last question.

A quote from a sage regarding such things

"They're not addicting in any way, the brain doesn't alter it's chemistry during exposure. No, games are compelling; they draw you in."

Otherwise, I did my part.

I completed the survey for you. Please do post your findings when you a finished, I'm quite curious. I did a project which compared videogames to depression, so I read a lot of thesis on impulsive personalities linking to game addiction linking to depression. Results are still pretty much up in the air on that topic.

I think impulsive personalities and the way we react in society are learned behaviour. I personally refuse to see a correlation between our behaviour and videogames. Personality and what games we choose to play, sure, but I don't think because I choose to play MMOs and I choose to play them lone wolf style, that I'm going to have an anti-social personality, ya know?

Anywho, good luck, sounds like a fun topic to research :)

That was an interesting survey, the questions regarding relationships being the unexpected part.
Prior to taking the survey, I had assumed that most of the questions asked would be like the ones situated on page one and three. I hope you get the information needed from this.

Started the survey, then stopped when I saw that the first page was solely about multiplayer games, which I don't play much. It did say this:
If you do not play a lot of multiplayer video games, but still want to complete the survey, answer each question as if it referred to computer players in a single-player game.
I'm not sure how to phrase this without sounding sarcastic, but you do realize that those aren't the same thing, right?

Completed it, Would like to see whatever results you come up with posted here. Also, a good addition that could have been made would have been a "comments" section where we could respond in a way different to just "A,B,C,D"

Wow, you have no idea how pertinent this survey is to the stuff going on around me. Good survey, only too happy to contribute.

I don't mind filling out your survey, but aren't you going to catch a lot of flak for asking a bunch of people on a videogame website?? we're not exactly random or representative of the population...
