Partying with loud music at late night: your thoughts?

Here I am, unable to sleep till 1 or 2 AM, because there's a huge party outside with an extremely loud "music" (music? rather, extremely repetitive tribal-like sounds).

A bunch of people there drink and scream and listen to that loud noise which makes the windows of my house tremble.

Why?

Why is it allowed?

Why do people need to do that - loud music at late night? Is it fear of silence and darkness? Fear of loneliness and death, plus fear of actual social interaction (loud rumor and drunkeness are not my idea of social interaction)?

Why don't I need to do that, and I have always thought the very notion of it to be extremely stupid?

Should that be allowed because it's not every night, or should that not be allowed because the way those people have fun is to force other people to not have fun by unwillingly taking part in it? Do what you want, as long as it doesn't hurt me, and all that noise at late night is hurting me, so I don't care if you're having fun - you shouldn't be allowed to.

This thread might not sound very clear as it's the second night of not sleeping due to that noise, so I don't guarantee the logic of my writing here. But anyway, I'd like to hear your thoughts on this issue!

It's not allowed. Call the police and report a noise disturbance.

People do it because people are selfish jerks who don't think beyond their own transient enjoyment.
Ah, I had not explained that..... they got permission from our municipality to party up all night.

Which is why I'm so baffled. If only it was illegal, problem solved. But today I complained and I got dirty looks like "can't these people have fun some time?"..... no they cannot if their idea of fun is damaging public quiet and other people's sleep cycle.

Do you want a philosophical discussion of why people "party"? Or do you want a discussion on the responsibility we have to those around us?

How did they get permission? Do they have a permit or something? Parties don't need permits, and municipalities aren't about to give noise-allowance to private clubs...

As an old technohead raver I am very much in favour of partying late at night with loud music, although these days it's not an all weekend, every weekend thing, my body and brain just can't keep up with that anymore.

That said, venues usually being fields, old industrial buildings or office blocks away from residential areas, the disturbance is usually kept to a minimum.

As for your issue, it probably isn't allowed, but usually the police won't do anything unless there is a complaint and even then they'll have a lot more things to deal with that are higher up their list of priorities.

EDIT: Just read your second post. Well then, looks like the Feds are OK with it. Some events will get permission as long as it stays within certain guidelines.

is it like a public celebration or something? Cause I hate those, they shouldn't be allowed to play as late as they do.

If it's just your neighbors you should get up at 7 the next day and do something noisy like mow your lawn or build a garage or something to keep them up.

Where the hell do you live that they can get a permit to keep their neighbors up all night?

Just wait until about 6 or 7 in the am when everyone is passed out and hungover and start practicing the fucking tuba in your front lawn

Depending on where you live, you pretty much can have 24hr zones where people are awake 24 hours a day so while some are sleeping others are working at all times is extremely common. Most regions have a few people here and there that work graveyard shifts, but in others, there are bars serving alcohol 24 hours. In areas where this is really common, you frequently see parties going on at all hours, there is no "too late for a party" time in those areas. The best I can tell you if you are in one of those areas where this is allowed is to :
1) Get ear plugs.
2) Get sleeping sound reducing earmuffs.
3) Try to soundproof your pad as much as you can.
4) Move.

Seriously, if at all possible, I would keep an eye out on possible relocation for your long term sanity. If not and this is frequent, try to do the best you can to soundproof your pad. It can be expensive, but if you are creative, you may be able to help reduce the noise. Cotton is a good less expensive sound reducer option as well.

This may help for long term solutions if you are unable to relocate:

If the police already know they have a permit, they are going to not ruin their night, but yours.

You fail to understand that in some places this is perfectly legal. Calling the police for people not breaking the law repeatedly can get you in trouble.

When we ran a punk house, we got permits, and the neighbors could come and party at the shows for free. They loved it.
