My friends and I are starting to get into Pathfinder and I was wondering if anybody had some character class suggestions.

I realize "there is no best class", and "I should play whatever I like best", but I would still like some opinions. Are there any classes that people have found really fun, or really annoying? Is there a certain class that just seems to be easier to work with? You get the idea.

My roommate, who is a freak about this kind of thing, says Sorcerers and Summoners are the most fun.

Hell if I know, but he does know his stuff.

Really, a great thing about games like Pathfinder is that they do a very good job at making sure that characters all have a role to play within a group as well as a "role" to play by themselves. Really, my suggestion to you is that if you have some idea of what type of character you want to play aside from your class, as in, their personality, background, profession, etc., go with whatever class you feel best fits with the other aspects of that character. Despite how it seems, it is my belief that while class is extremely important, it is not the MOST important decision about your character you should make. It's second to those aspects I'm talking about: background, personality, etc. The stuff that isn't specifically laid out within the game book. Those are what make your character unique, and set the character apart from the millions of other characters of that class that have ever been made.

So just ask yourself the question: "If I have a character with (such and such traits), what class would that character likely be?" and go from there.

Sorry I can't give you a more concrete answer, but I hope this helps.

I decided on being a rogue. Any suggestions for my race?
You could go standard halfling, but if you want to be less cliched I'd go human or half elf. And I love what they've done with rogue in Pathfinder.

I've heard that the best races for a rogue are Human and Half-Elf, and I was personally leaning toward Human...

sounds strange, but i did a half orc rogue that murdered. they can use greataxe which can still be used for sneak attacks at what not, plus you can add +2 to dex, you have darkvision (great for rogue) you can take dodge AND ironhide which both add plus 1 ac. with a chain shirt, I have 20 ac at level 2, had 19 at level 1 which is still pretty great for whats supposed to be a mushy murderer. not to mention if you crit on a sneak attack, you can do up to 42 damage in 1 hit at level one, (more depending on str bonus) best I've seen yet in any society games ive played/watched.

Rogue is fun, personally I'm using a Alchemist/Fighter(Lore Warden) pretty much as a Witcher but the rogue in the party loves flanking with me to deal bleed damage. Weapon Finesse can be your friend if you want to ignore your Strength. The great thing about Half-Elf is use the Ancestral Weapon alternate racial feature to gain proficiency with the exotic weapon (or martial if you're boring) of your choice. Human's better if you don't plan on multi-classing however since they can use their extra feat for the same thing but gain the bonus skill points.

Currently monitoring progress of party consisting of strange bedfellows :
- Drow Summoner (Synthesist) - i'm not sure if drows/dark elves are core class now.
- Human Bard (Savage Skald)
- Human Monk (Hungry Ghost)
- Human Rogue (Sanctificed Rogue)
- Human Paladin (Divine Hunter)
- Half-Orc Druid (Serpent Shaman)

...i couldn't believe they'll survive for long, yet, they are deep in their second campaign and by that they prove that RPG isn't only about good character build and being lucky in dice rolling.

P.S.
I believe they play "Serpent's Skull" now. They successfully finished "Kingmaker" campaign. :)

well there are classes that are better than the others ín terms of game mechanics and power gaming possibilities: Wizard, Cleric, Druid (the usual suspects...)with those classes, your imagination is the only limit...

that being said you can have blast with the crappiest character builds, it just depends on how you and your friends are gaming
