Good for him, not sure if I would trust the queen mother to weild a sword around my head and neck.
Well it's a good thing the Queen Mother is dead then isn't it!.
Truely? I had not heard of her demise or are you saying that the title "Queen regent" is a better way to refer to Queen Elizabeth II and that the "queen mother" is some other person?

If Queen Elizabeth II is in fact dead then it still stands that I would not trust her to weild a sword around my neck. Never trust a zombie to knight you without going for your brains, a wise man once told me.
The Queen Mother or the Queen mum, is a title for a widowed queen whose son or daughter is the reigning monarch in the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth, mother to Queen Elizabeth II (queen regnant) was the Queen mother till she died in 2002.

Therefore she is in no shape to do any energetic sword swinging unless science creates a zombie drug..even then I very much doubt the word "energetic" would be appropriate.
Also as Queen Mother she wouldn't be knighting people anyway. That's the purvue of the queen herself, and the Queen Mother wasn't queen.. She was never really a Queen. Her husband was a king and she was queen consort, then when she outlived the king and the title passed to her daughter she was called Queen Mother to avoid confusion.

On a side note, I always preferred to see the queen mum to the queen.
Oh yeah, and this. At least till, Charles or William gets the throne.

This is fantastic!. I grew up watching Star Trek: TNG and from what I have heard ages ago he is said to be quite the stage actor. I am ecstatic about this and kudos to Sir Patrick Stewart for this achievement. Truly epic.

About damn time. Now we just need Stephen Fry to be knighted. Seriously, why has that man not got a knighthood already?

You won't be saying that in a few years when you hear the following coming from the aircraft intercoms:

Ladies and gentleman, please fasten your seat belts as we begin our descent towards Stephen Fry International Airport!.

Epic, i hope that he gets knighted, he deserves it. This is also one of the perks about having a monarchy.

He played an Amazing Scrooge and good captain Ahab. The man has such a charisma I love watching and hearing him in movies games or even cartoons.

Seriously?

On the whole I think the idea sounds really dumb. I mean, were I eligible, and offered, would I refuse a knighthood? Probably not, but all the same, I'd want to know why.

Just seems to be the highest rung of the english entertainment industry.. Succeed well at not boring us for 50 years, become a knight.

And that's a perk of having a monarchy? That every once in a while the queen will get a whim to honor someone who's been honored by much better people for years? And why? Being able to call yourself Sir? Technically, I think you could legally change your name to Sir Anything and people would call you Sir. Be an authoritative chap and people will call you Sir.
