I think America is a tad obsessively patriotic cos its only a couple of hundred years old.

And with flag burning - I really couldn't care less if someone burned my flag, well come to think of it, its their flag cos they went to the trouble of buying it

If I had been alive during the revolutionary war, I'd be fighting, if I had been around when slavery in America was still accepted by the majority, I'd be fighting, and the next time someone threatens mine or my friends freedoms, I'll be fighting. With the gun, currency, or word I'll fight for each and everyone of you. I love my country, I love humanity. I wave my flag proudly, and I know that if push comes to shove you can be damn sure I'd be killing to keep us free. But, I have a strong feeling that I'm just that type of person. Put me in any country and I'd be fighting just as hard to bring every liberty that I know to those who don't yet know it.

I'm the one picketing against some government policy by waving a flag. I'm the one who wants you to scream your opinion at me, and I want you to know that as I draw breath I'll continue to make sure you can get mad at me when I say the complete opposite. There is no other ideal higher then liberty for every single human on this planet.

Wow, I sound crazy. Awesome.

Why are you proud to be whatever nationality you are?
Personally I'm proud to be British because of some of the great people this country has made, like William Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Richard the Lionheart and Winston Churchill.
I thought Richard the lionheart was French. And William the Conqueror right?.

I'm not good at history, actually i'm crap at most things, so correct me if I'm wrong.
Dear old William the Conquerer only conquered england.
He was a Norman (descendant of viking settlers in Normandy).

OT:
Yeah, I'm proud to be Norwegian.
Lets see:

* We give out the Nobel Peace Prize.
* Our glorious history, with them vikings and all.
* Edvard Grieg and Edvard Munch.
* All that delicious oil in the north sea.
* Our stunning nature, specially the fjords.
* Our continued dedication to socialism.

Patriotism is overrated.
I don't see why I should feel any, no matter what country I'm from.
This.
I'm only proud of personal accomplishments.

I'm not too patriotic but I still believe that some people from my two nationalities (England and France) are great people. The list is like Shakespeare, Isaac Newton, Napoleon Bonaparte and etc.

However I too detest Nationalism.

I'm not exactly proud of the Netherlands, yet I'm also not ehmm.. well un-proud. I just like to live here. We have cool laws, we can smoke weed legally you know. For a country as small as ours we do rather well actually. Yet we did some terrible things like slavery and some nasty colonialism, though I think that is in the past and should be forgotten.

Oh well I just think patriotism is bad. Patriotism is a sentiment that can cause wars. Not directly perhaps, and maybe a bit of patriotism isn't that bad at all, but if it's carried too far and becomes mindless patriotism, then it's just silly.
I agree. Small doses means you're willing to try and project a good image for your country or do something useful. Too much and you get things like Kitchener and the Boer war.

Richard was decended from william who was french. That's why there have been a lot of wars between britain and france because the british monarchs still claim to own Normandy (of which william was duke)

I am proud of Britains long history, we have seen it all from Stonehenge to the industrial revelution, however i'm not proud of the "Chav Culture"that is embedded in our inner cities.

Really, there are good and bad things about every country- a too heavy dose of patrotism can be bad as it leads people to overlook their countries problems and causes them to belive that their country, for some reason, is better than anyone elses.

I also have a lot of respect for Scandinavian countries- they are simply awesome. Germany is nice as well- great music scene, nice cars, lovely cake, meat and beer- win. Also, quite like Italy as well- nice weather, Romans, ice cream, pizza and ferrari- need i say more?
