Self praise is no praise
This doesn't really apply since he didn't make the game...
"Sega's upcoming Sonic Generations looks like it's going to continue the recent (excellent) trend of quality hedgehog videogames."

He didn't write the article either...
Despite some of the bad ones,Sonic does have some good current (and last gen depending on your sense of time) gen stuff. The Advance series,Rush,Colors, that RPG from Bioware. Sonic may not have had any hits lately, but he strives to greatness with these few games, and hopefully Sonic Generations will break the cycle of good game, bad game.

OT:When I played the demo,I wondered why there was no 3D section (In fear of another Sonic Unleashed incident where they only let you try the good part of the game) I'm happy to hear that this time, the game has a more Sonic Adventure style of gameplay on 3D's part.
Gonna disagree about the Bioware game, I thought it was rancid. The AWFUL music was the nail in the coffin. Otherwise, yeah, recent Sonic games have been surprisingly pretty excellent. I even really liked Sonic Unleashed, despite the Werehog. That's sort of a point you put up with rather than enjoy, undermining the consistency of the experience, but I felt it made the time I put in worthwile, it had oodles of content, some of the best graphics and game art of this generation, and, honestly, way better Sonic gameplay than the Adventure titles ever could boast (mostly because it adopted Sonic Rush mechanics XD).

Also, the demo can be hacked; oddly, the 3D stage is in it, is playable, and is pretty good. Additionally, you can hack it so that 2D Sonic is playable in the 3D stages and 3D Sonic is playable in the 2D stages. Oddly, they cross over into each other's stages really, really well. o_O

EDIT:

Who wants a video of the whole level in generations? Starts about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in.

While I am loving how it looks right now, I'm a little disappointed at how Sonic sounds. A small gripe I realise but he just doesn't sound enthusiastic anymore, at least the old voice actor had that.
According to Retro, that's the german VA as the game is getting dubbed for Europe and the preview came from a german site, the English one is still Roger Craig Smith and he sounds just as enthusiastic as his Colors' performance.

Just gotta ask, what exactly is a level from a Sonic game doing set in San Francisco? Did Sonic find a stargate/wormhole leading to planet Earth or something?

Yes, I am aware there's some crazy concept going around that the Sonic games have somehow always been set on Earth, but still, I was just checking. Not that I'm expecting a consistent background to the Sonic games or anything. After all, in the last stage of Sonic 4: Episode 1, that's a funny looking planet Earth, if indeed that's what it's meant to be...

I'm still secretly hoping SEGA is going to have a chao garden in Generations, but is keeping it on taps for now...

If it has a chao garden, my life will be complete.

Didn't they already try the 2d/3d mash-up with sonic colors?

Also if this ends up being a re-hash of SA2 without a chao garden, I'm going to be very displeased.

Also also, that outrunning the truck screenshot makes me excited. I got places to go gotta FOLLOW MY RAINBOW.

The game could literally be just the remake of city escape with no main menu and i'd still buy it.

For all I care, they can remake SA2 anytime, for all time. They could release the chao garden as 30$ DLC and i'd buy it and be happy.

I enjoyed SA2 that much.

"Hedgehog Sandwich" is a rather weird phrase for this, isn't it? I think "Best of Both Worlds" sounds better.

Alright...

1- PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO PRAISE A GAME THEY LIKE, SAYING OTHERWISE IS CALLED "BEING AN ASS".

2- BY "SET IN SAN FRANCISCO", HE'S TALKING ABOUT THE FACT THAT THE CITY IN "CITY ESCAPE" WAS BASED OFF SAN FRANCISCO.

3- WHY IS PEOPLE SAYING -THIS- ONE WILL FINALLY BREAK THE CYCLE? WHAT HAPPENED TO SONIC COLORS? REMEMBER? AWESOME GAME, SONIC COLORS?

4- SONIC RUSH WAS AWESOME, I WILL NEVER DENY THAT.

5- STOP BEING SO SKEPTICAL, PEOPLE.

Ok, thank you.

"starring everyone's furry blue mammal"

Hedgies are a lot less furry than they are spiky. The belly is furry, but they keep it to the ground.

Sorry, just ... wrong adjective is all.

I'm glad it's looking good. My friend is a big fan and will thus purchase the game and let me borrow it later yay!

1. Indeed, people have a right to praise a game they like (as well as the opposite corollary). But, the main point is tolerance. Saying otherwise is just being a jerk.

2. Yes. Sonic Team stated way back in SA2 that City Escape was heavily based on San Fransisco.

3. Yeah! I'm wondering what caused these people to forgot about Sonic Colors. We know that it positively shattered the cycle. Heck, Unleashed cracked the cycle. Gah, those poeple must be willfully (or stupidly) ignorant.

4. I agree with you on that. Both games were awesome - they were just in other style. We all need to remember that Sonic games are not a genre but, a place where some of the characters take prevalent roles.

5. This times 100. Everything should be taken with healthy dosages of idealism and cynicism - not one exclusively. Further, the dosages vary on the situation. Let's be idealistic for a change people :)

Thank you for voicing my thoughts. You deserve several pats on the back.

A few remakes of SA2 stages was all I needed to hear!

Seriously!

Actually considering buying this game! First Sonic title I will have purchased since Heroes.
