First of all: regardless of whether you own Payday 2 or not, everyone should take part of Crimefest: by simply joining the official Payday 2 usergroup on Steam, you get a lot of free content added to Payday 2, on top of Payday: The Heist being free to download on Steam on October 18.

Second: It's come to my attention nobody really talks about Overkill's Bag-Moving Simulator co-op robbery PvE FPS Payday 2. I understand before that the game was a little unrefined, buggy, and subject to huge amounts of grind, but since Patch 35 they fixed the grinding problem and the game's generally gotten less buggy with each patch. It's a lot of fun, that's practically all I've played since Patch 35.

So, with that out of the way... how's the Hotline Miami DLC been treating my fellow heisters?

Personally, I love all the new masks that have been added, they're so delightfully creepy on top of being a great crossover. The melee weapons are mostly useless compared to other existing melees, except most of them are pretty gratifying to use, like beating a mobster to death with a briefcase and fireaxe. The SMGs are pretty good, by no means the best guns that you can use for your secondary, but they aren't awful compared to the vanilla SMGs.

The heist is really hectic but not a lot of fun, to be honest. Day One is a complete blast between the risk vs. reward gameplay for securing extra loot at the cost of putting yourself and your crew at a greater risk. Day Two is crying miserable when it comes to fighting the Commissar: not only is it a huge letdown that the fight culminates into babysitting another thermal drill for five minutes, but the area you have to defend in is way too open while being way too small: you're overwhelmed by the tiniest SWAT squads and snipers = gods. The reward at the end of the heist is at least really worth the huge risk.

And at the very least, the DLC is worth getting solely because of EVIL EYE playing in the background of the heists.

So, thoughts on the DLC, or Payday 2 in general? Any preferred loadouts, any favorite heists, any complaints about the PC specs or the high price of the DLCs?

I looked at the DLC when it came out and unfortunately it didn't have anything that interested me enough to buy it. I can play the heist by just joining the game of someone who has it, so I don't actually need the DLC to play the mission, and as far as the weapons go, not a single one is actually useful to my set-up. I run a tech/enforcer mix, typically with a Car 4 primary and a locomotive secondary, and all of my firearms skills are either in rifles or shotguns so the new melee weapons and SMGs do nothing for me. Maybe I'll get the DLC myself when it goes on sale, but I doubt it.

Currently on a break from Payday2 due to being tired of dealing with obnoxious players (if I wanted that, I'd go back to playing leagues of legends) but once the DLC goes on a big sale I'll catch up. I was really into Payday2 this summer and tried to share my enthusiasm by teaching noobies how to play or patiently explaining tricks behind heists and what not.
But met sooo many dickish players (a lot of them doubling as dickish hosts that would kick you just before the heist was finished to deny you rewards) that it just killed my enthusiasm over time and just saturated.

My preferred loadout was that of a enforcer armed with a heavy mg. Running an MG is really satisfying in Payday, on some maps like day 2 of one of the Elephant heists (one where you gotta steal prototype) I felt like a total rambo gunning down scores of law enforcement (my record on that map was 250ish police killed).

Overall favorite heists would be Go bank (10x more fun then the other bank heists imo) and Firestarter, specifically its 2nd day, a shootout in the FBI hq is fun :)

I'm loving the new DLC, actually. The first level is a blast and really gives you the feeling of dirty, underground criminal activity versus the more high-minded stuff you do for most of the game. Second level is... less good, but I'm glad there's finally a level that isn't focused around moving bags from point A to B. Snipers spawn WAY too often, and the penthouse level really should have been bigger, but overall it's still a fun mission equal to that of Firestarter or Watchdogs. I really don't know what more they could have done with the Commissar to make the fight a bit bigger, so I really don't mind that it is kinda lame.

Now, when the FUCK are we gonna get this Hoxton dlc? I'm so hyped I can hardly stand it, and I know I'm probably gonna be dissapointed when it comes out due to the hype but goddamnitIwantitknowajkl;4r8tu

...

Anyway.

How the hell is Overkill going to deliever on their promise of pushing all of the Dentist DLCs at this rate? Even if the Hoxton DLC comes out this month, they'll have to release one DLC per month, and I really don't see them being able to do that unless they're already working on the Diamond and Golden Grin maps.

Dont how Payday 2 but from what I saw of that DLC it doesnt look much like Hotline Miami with the exception of the masks. There are no bright neon lighs, everything is grey with the fog in the first heist and in the second its just an average sunny day, the soundtrack also doesnt do much either.

Payday (have the first one) can be a fast game but it doesnt seem like they blended the two games that well.

It's been a while since I played Payday 2 since the friend I play it with got sick of it and I haven't had anyone to play it with.

I wouldn't mind getting back into it as it's a pretty fun game. I run an Enforcer though i've been speccing into Tech as well and hope to get to the max tier in both trees for ultimate tankiness. Sadly the friend I play with is a ghost who always wants to stealth so most of the heists consist of me sitting around doing nothing until he either completes the mission or fails at which point he usually wants us to suicide with grenades so he can try again.

Favourite mission is probably Rats, I really enjoy that although I also enjoy Go bank.

I'd play more if they ever got around to patching the buggy 360 version. Innterested to see how the Hotline Miami stuff fits in (if we ever get it on Xbox).

The Day 1 mission escape vehicle is a Delorian, just like Hotline Miami. The Russian thugs you fight are also, all dressed like they are in Hotline Miami. And the fact that they are Russian of course. xD

Other than that, yeah I haven't seen any other similarities. Maybe the fact that there are making phone calls too? *shrugs*

Though if you play it on Deathwish difficulty it's got the feel of Hotline Miami in that you pretty much go down in one hit. xD

OT: I find it enjoyable to have a different heist. Though I find it somewhat insane on higher difficulties. Mostly because I am built for stealth missions, and don't really do well loud. I mean I can do ok, but I don't like respecing much, and I'm just not as good in the crazy firefight missions compared to stealth ones.

I mostly just enjoy it for the reason we're doing the mission: To get closer to freeing Hoxton.

I don't personally have any love for the Old Hoxton voice actor from the first game, he wasn't my favorite or anything. I mean he was fun to listen to, but he didn't make a mark on me. What I do love though, is the whole premise of him getting busted, and the team getting together to bust him out. Coming in to rescue an old teammate from prison has a very fun vibe to it for me, and I'm psyched to rescue him. xD Just for the fun "The Cavalry is coming!" kind of feel of the whole thing.

I'd like Day 2 to be less fucking insane. I mean even on low difficulty it's crazy to try and keep things together. But overall, yeah it's pretty fun.

Eh, I'd rather they actually flesh out the Infamy ranks 2-5 at this point. I'm cool with the number of heists that are out now, as I haven't done all of them yet, or only done some of them loud, but working on stealth. But yeah I'm psyched for the freehoxton stuff too. Just 'cause I love rescue missions. xD

I am really enjoying Payday 2, I had never played a Payday game and when they did a free weekend for Payday 2 during the summer, I played it to death those 2 days. I played it so much I felt I had sort of cheated because I put probably 30 hours into it and I got sort of bored with it. I hadn't even attempted Deathwish heists but I got bored of almost all of the normal heists. So when the weekend closed I had no intention of buying it. Then about a month passed, and it was on sale on steam. So I bought it. And then I bought several DLCs at full price, and now its my third most played steam game and I've bought every DLC within a month of them coming out and I am hooked. I have done all the ridiculous achievements I can do, just missing Halloween events and the Infamy achievements, about to hit infamy 2nd time.

As someone who likes coop games but hates cooperating with pubbers, I have found the game to be pretty nice, probably the best coop community have found. Lots of idiots as always but plenty of skilled players looking to team up. My main complaint with the game is the insane difficulty of Deathwish, I like to get 100% achievements if I can but it was hell to beat certain missions on deathwish. I finally found an insanely talented group of guys who could complete deathwish missions first try, we only failed one time and came close a second but it was amazing to watch these people play the game so skillfully.

I also wish that Overkill would focus on releasing heists instead of cosmetic items or weapons. I have every gun in the game, and many of the masks. I only wear one mask, I think it is cool, I don't need anymore masks. And I have found the priced DLC is the only time the new guns are worth bothering with. The Hotline Miami Uzi is easily the best all around secondary, while shotguns have better purposes, the Uzi has high damage/accuracy/stability and is better than most primary weapons. The Assault Pack's Gewehr 3 is a pretty good long range hybrid with the sniper modification, but it has too little ammo and a long reload. The Thanatos sniper is still the best DLC weapon.

I like how even if you don't own the DLCs, you can still play the heists. I just wish there were more heists, even one day heists, just for some variety. I hope Crimefest reveals lots of new heists for the future and maybe a shift away from constantly adding useless melee weapons.

Question, will my soundtrack update despite not owning the DLC, work has kept me too busy to play much games lately.
I honestly don't know... Owning the DLC will get you both new songs even if you don't own the soundtrack (which I don't own), but I don't know otherwise...

If it hasn't appeared in your soundtrack folder yet, it's probably not true.

I've found the Hotline Miami heist to be really fun on day 1, race against time with a crazy hectic fight on day 2.. but may I just make a PSA for all you guys out there who might not have played the heist much... STOP BAGGING THE FUCKING COKE ON DAY 2 BEFORE THE HELI ARRIVES. The cops can't steal it if it's not a bag, you're just making it harder to get a max payday if things get crazy halfway through. Thank you from a V-78.

Edit: It also seems to be buggy as hell, does anyone else have frequent crash issues on day 2?

The whole game has been kinda buggy since that DLC came out.

Anyway, I've played the heist with a friend that bought it, haven't bought it myself yet, mostly 'cause I'm hoping there's gonna be a sale on PAYDAY 2 stuff during Crimefest. It's a pretty fun heist, though I was hoping for some stealth options, but oh well, it's cool to have an all action heist.

To you and to all you people looking to get playing or just for more peeps to play with. We should definitely gather up some names and start heisting. You can add my steam name and I'll play with ya. I got all the DLCs and such I can host all heists, no DLC is needed to join. I can voice chat on Skype, Teamspeak, Mumble or whatever.

I'm quite liking the Hotline DLC. Second day feels kinda like a First person hotline in spirit. Frantic rushing through a maze. Not enough glitzy neon though. High hopes for the future of Payday. #freehoxton

Sure, I wouldn't mind getting back into Payday again.

I'll add you on Steam and maybe we can play sometime, my Steam name is Dandark just like my forum name. I'd be up for it if you want to do some heists, though I may be a bit rusty ;)

Quick Crimefest update: we got 1.5 million! All rewards unlocked!

Any speculations on the secret? Or the new gun that Gage is giving out?

If they add official support for the Kawaii-dozer, I will be completely satisfied.

I'm fine for playing along. I'm mainly a Masterforcer, I always go straight for Inspire. Last I checked my level is around II-80. Steam account is linked to my Escapist account.
