You assume that people who prefer less flaws on the technical side of any game have a stance of lesser substance.
You hit the nail right on the head. There will ALWAYS be flaws on the technical side of a game, especially if it's a game being released on multiple platforms, so to point out those flaws as being "dealbreakers" as it were if they aren't game breakers as is the case with FPS, is in my honest, humble opinion a load of malarkey. If that makes me elitist then so be it. It's MY opinion, and in my opinion people who think that way pretty much missed out on a lot, but that is THEIR opinion, ponderous as it may seem to somebody like me who's been around for EVERY console generation from Atari 2600 to now.

In said opinion, where I grew up in a time where graphics and framerate and all the rest of the jargon which people like to toss around like horseshoes meant nothing, I appreciate a good game for being that, a good game. And if it in fact ISN'T a good game, through some more urgent factors than how fast it runs, then I will call it out like nobody's business. Otherwise, no game is going to be 100% perfect, so to discredit a game that's 90% perfect is the stance of someone's who's spoiled rotten.

There's your substance. And if that makes me an "elitist" then I'll wear the bad guy badge with pride.
That does make you elitist in a way and also very condescending of other people's opinions. If you think a game is 90% and near perfect, that's you opinion and you obviously have reasons for thinking that but maybe I think the game is 60% and I have reasons for thinking this just the same has you do. You seem to think your opinion is the right one and the be all end all of discourse.

The reason people get angry over consoles is because:
1. corps don't know how to treat humans.
2. if you can only afford one console, you might get jealous.
3. They are annoyed they can't have mods on their console.

:) Yeah, I know the difference, I always seem to type it incorrectly when I use that "phrase." You have that "English OCD eh?" Haha. I can't stand it either when people use incorrect English sometimes as well.

Anyways: Yes, I really couldn't care less about which Company makes what hardware, I would rather just enjoy the games. Even if I could only afford one console or just a PC or whatever, I wouldn't feel the need to bad mouth the competition just to feel better about it.
I had to refrain from cursing at you from the high heavens. I care that much about spelling and grammar.

There are assholes on everything and everything is defined by their assholes unfortunately. As whoever farts the loudest must be the real deal. Also on the "elitist" PC stuff fps is very important with the mouse*due to how fast it moves in comparison to a controller) for some genres and things like a low FoV can act actually make people sick.

Anyone who was a PC chauvinist between ~2000 and ~2006 was dead fucking wrong. If you didn't mind gamepad controls the Xbox had enough brain-dead shooters for anyone, and covered the same bro demographic the 360 does just as thoroughly, and had a few killer games that could reach out to people who don't suck. The Gamecube was one of Nintendo's best systems, if not better than the SNES. And saying this as a PC chauvinist for the last 5 or 6 years, the PS2 was the best console evar. There were only a handful of PC games during that period that were as good as the stuff that was coming out on the PS2, and that includes the DX9 shooters that started coming out from 2004. If one had to choose between a gaming PC and a console in the early 2000s, you could choose pretty much any system without feeling like a chump; and if you went for just a PC you'd likely find yourself wanting one of the consoles (I did).

But in the last generation, and thus far the current/upcoming one? Pretty much every game worth playing came out on the PC as well as the consoles. Nintendo, with its previous-generation-level hardware, had most of the worthwhile exclusives. Meanwhile the 360 and PS3 were full of nearly-identical superficial BORING shit which was often competing against an objectively superior PC version. At the same time they were plagued with hardware failures (30% defect rate on Xboxes for a while. THIRTY PERCENT). There were releases with game-ruining bugs, which may be understandable on the PC with its millions of possible hardware configurations; but is utterly unacceptable on a console, where there is initially just ONE. Consoles are supposed to JUST WORK, but they fucking didn't. You pretty much have to install your games...again where is the advantage over a PC?

And THEN there's the Xbox Live gamer culture, where the worst kinds of brain-dead racist homophobic morons rule. I once did an interview at a Chinese software company that was doing testing for Microsoft's speech recognition for Xbox Live search. I got to listen to recordings of Xbox users trying it out. I heard the term "niggerdick" (which the speech recognition choked on, pun intended) more times during that little exercise than ever elsewhere, and that was pretty much the tip of the iceberg. Granted that doesn't apply to PS3 or Wii, but FOR FUCK'S SAKE XBOX USERS YOU PEOPLE ARE SCUM. Maybe I should be thankful that the Xbox exists, though, because that keeps them busy, so they can't ruin anything that doesn't already suck.

Since the 360 and PS3 hit their stride, such as it is, the PC has been the objectively superior game platform, even though it hasn't really changed from when it wasn't. The only reason this is the case is that the consoles have gotten so fucking AWFUL, taking all of the worst "features" of PC gaming and none of the best. And now you've got Microsoft wanting to double down on that bullshit.

What if I told you that consoles are computers?
Consoles are capable of being computers if you hack them. Otherwise they're a closed system to the point that the distinction is valid. Browsing and word processing on a console is either non-existent or terrible whereas a computer can do everything a console can do and more. Your statement is also valid for calculators, brick cell-phones with a display, and an ATM.

I do think Consoles are becoming more and more like open computers though. I wonder how long it'll be before word processing is possible out of the box? Unfortunately, that would harm the efficiency of the console OS being optimized for gaming. But in a world with resources specifically dedicated to the OS then I guess that doesn't matter as much as it once did.

Man, sure is lonely up here on my my tower, comprised of both consoles and PCs.

Lonely, but sexy.

Personally I find this whole pc vs console thing a pain in the ass cause there's a lot things about pc gaming that I like and some things that I don't like so believe me, I'd love to discuss consoles AND pc's online but threads usually get those guys who suddenly have to rebut every complaint leveled against pcs with half assed bullshit opinions that can't be argued against cause they're so stupid.

"Yeah Steam was being a pain in the ass yesterday and my computer locked up twice while trying start Dude Bro Gun Fuckers 4 and I had to restart it"

"I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM STARTING A GAME ON STEAM IN 5 YEARS!"

"Ok..."

It just gets old, so I avoid threads that about pc gaming which is why I would get annoyed if someone brought up pc's in a console thread cause then I know those guys aren't far behind. Luckily have real life friends who are into pc's and some who are into consoles so I can complain about and gush over pc's with them
Wait doesn't everyone get GSB? (general steam bullshit) Fuckin' steam, I like it a lot but some days it's just asking for a punch in the balls.

Mostly why i prefer the PC is not having fuck around with game pads, I really suck at using them.

Pretty much don't give two shits about somebody's badass rig that they built. Really try to avoid any thread that has the title of, "thinking about building my own PC." Oh the fucks I give having to see the people list their custom jobs. That bullshit is in a console thread, then get the fuck out. Everybody is talking about the PS3, then it comes out of nowhere, then yeah. Kind of feel the Master Race joke was never funny to begin with. To me, it feels like a catchphrase that is to dumb to be widely popular. Sort of is popular, which further goes to show how unfunny the average person really is. Everybody on here seems to to know where to put their opinion at. Really don't see why their are people picking sides anyways. Everything about it is a hobby, one that isn't paying the bills, don't defend it.

I assume everybody does but some people don't want to act like Steam is anything less than an amazing gift from the Valve gods to pc gamers. I love it too, its sales have let me try some games I might not have played otherwise but given the option I'd rather pay more to play some of my games without a client and drm. Or just play off a disk

Mostly why i prefer the PC is not having fuck around with game pads, I really suck at using them.
Funny, I'm the opposite. Setting up my laptop to work on my tv with a gamepad is the biggest hassle (I have short fingers and suck with a keyboard). Windows 7 can't even change its font to a readable size on a 30 inch 1080p tv without logging off and logging back on

Being a multiplatform God Emperor is good, I will have a Playstation # for as long as consoles are made. I do enjoy my God of War, Infamous, Shadow of the Colossus etc, but when consoles die out (and yes they certainly will) I won't be shedding a tear for them. Stagnating hardware is not where the future lies, cloud gaming is, but without the wicked hand of Micro$uck involved with it. Soon the only difference will be what device you use to control the game attached to your Smart TV, notebook, tablet, etc.

Captcha: bees knees, yes captcha multiplatform gaming certainly is... for now.

Well considering the amount of threads whining about it this whole persecution complex consoleowners seems to have developed over the last few years bears something of a similarity of christians in the US complaining over how those evil atheists is out there persecuting them as if they were a minority group.

The most predominant cause of the behavior likely involves insecurity about one's purchases when they see that same product questioned extensively by random strangers, and they feel the need to justify their purchase of said product. Of course, you also have people who are inexplicably "loyal" to a certain brand, and I can't really explain that one since putting your "loyalty" in a big multi-million dollar mega-corporation just seems silly to me.
This is whats wrong with discussing games on forums, people get so defensive over anything and its amazing how they decide to defend a big multi-million dollar mega-corporation just to justify their console purchase. Doesnt "It was closer to what I wanted at the time I bought it" enough to justify it? The Xbox 360 doesnt offer as much as the PS3 does now but at the time the Xbox offered a lot more of what I wanted (more games, came with a mic, online, cheaper, etc...), I really dont regret it since those first few years with the PS3 would have been a pain for me. Still, on the internet you have people that in no way can say anything bad about their console since apparently that means that they spent big money on a paper weight.

See everyone agrees it's silly, but this can all be avoided if we just agree that the superior platform format, PCs, are superior.

The rest of this noise is just silly indulgence.

It is, but not because of anything inherent to it; it's because of the companies mismanaging the consoles. Apart from defect rates it's all about the content (unacceptably buggy, predominantly terrible) and service (uniformly terrible). I'm sure the Xboxes and Playstations would be great if it weren't for Microsoft and Sony.
