Because PC offers unfair advantages, namely mouse and keyboard.

I mentioned in my post that using different controllers is a problem and I was really speaking to the elitism issue in the OP. You're right ofcourse. It almost seems like the main divide now is control method. Competitive games would suffer the most I guess. Although, the assumption seems to be made that one team would be all controller wielding players while the other is all keyboard and mouse... mixing would maybe help a bit. But your point still stands.

Unless it's a co-op focused game any sort of crossplay has resulted in one side destroying the other.
TBH I'd like to see more co-op games being made. So the possibility that there could be a cross-platform incentive to get people to make co-op games is something I encourage. A non divided player base could benefit indie devs making multiplayer games that aren't competitive. But there is NO cross-platform gaming at all. Not even for co-op. Having the option could result in some interesting games.

There are a couple with co-op, Dust 514 (admittedly it appears to be just calling in orbital bombardment from the EVE Online MMO) and Warframe when the PS4 comes out.

I was going to make a comment on the post you quoted, but since you already brought up Dust 514, I'll just tack it on here. I've been having pretty good fun with it off and on since it was Beta, and oh man... using a KB/M with the PS3 playing against people with controllers feels like cheating. You can always tell on the leader board who the kb/m players are- it made it real clear to me that having cross platform play between PC and Console would never work, if just for the reason that console gamers (if not willing or able to use kb/m) would be getting murdered constantly and it wouldn't be fun to them. I also imagine that PC gamers would, all things being equal, have better ping/latency, and thus have an advantage there too.

Consoles are useful because they don't suffer from bloat. For the most part, they are trim and efficient, and you don't have to mangle with all the processes in the background in order to enjoy your games at maximal performance.

Console hardware is specialized, and optimizes a lot of the load of running a game in a way that the specifications for a given console don't really show. Look at the Emotion Engine for the good old PS2; its been years and years and its effectiveness can barely be emulated without a beastly GPU.

Don't suffer bloat?

So the tv in picture and a share button on the controller are required for good gaming are they?

The PS4 and Xbox one are using x86 hardware the same as Pc's. hell the Dreamcast did.

A $50 GPU could emulate the PS2.
