Oh God, not another one of these. You know what I think? I think you should go fuck yourself you twat. Everyone that has a console cries "BOOOOOOOOH, PC 3LITIS Prcks!"

Now in a less stupid way. I have a friends with consoles, they all forgot about the consoles because:
1. Controls
2. Graphics
3. If you are smart you can get an awesome gaming PC that can run for ooooooh 4 years for less than 400 euros
4. CHEAPER GAMES

EDIT: To those of you who don't understand why I am so frustrated. It is because EVERY FREAKING CONSOLE PLAYER cries about PC gaming.......... EVERYWHERE.

(Except for some)
Well said, and then you know what? They complain about the games being cheaper and the online being better!

I'm not a PC-elitist. I love video games, period. Anyway, I bought a pretty damn expensive laptop that I probably won't be able to greatly upgrade, so I wanted to answer one question.

how are consoles which are replaced by new consoles every 5 or so years supposed to out gaming pcs which are replaced by better parts/machines 24/7?

My computer will always be about as powerful (if not more so) than an Xbox 360. It'll always play games that look as good as (if not better than) Xbox 360 games (here's looking at you, Bioshock). I don't need a computer that's slightly better than mine at this point in time (almost a year since purchase). The highest setting I can play a game at will always look that awesome. It just won't get any new tricks once significantly better hardware comes out.

Another thing is, if I do upgrade my computer, almost all my old software will work with it, right out of the box. That's a big plus. I can play Good Old Games on my computer: in some cases, games that came out before Windows.

Plus it's an open platform that's not locked down by Nintendo, Sony or even Microsoft. I can install any software on my computer I want. I could even rip my huge stack of GBA games and play them fullscreen with my Classic Controller as a joypad if I wanted to. The possibilities are endless - and not restricted by anyone's walled garden marketplace. I can get compatable software from wherever I want: Steam, retail, D2D, direct from the indie scene.

There are advantages and disadvantages to every gaming platform. PC gaming just has the advantages I want. If you prefer your console, that's super.
I love you I agree with everything you say and give you the premission to eat cookies everywhere.

*Pats Tenlong* 'grats kid, you just started your very own flame war

PC elitists usually talk about how much the PC is better when confronted with 14 year old freshman who go "OMFG XBOX HALO!!11!!111one!!11!111"

i am not trying to start a flame war. i have just stated my OPINION.{MY OPINION] i like all games regardless of format. i have been on websites dicussing consoles in a console discussion. a pc elitist comes out of nowhere saying."consoles sucks you wasted your money. pc rule.] by the way i am 23. i am just using my freedom of speech.
You cannot base your opinion on an entire fanbase on one moron's actions >.>
If that was true, 95% of the world would be dead from stupid.

Also, opinionated forums=flame whether you like it or not it would seem.

it happened to me many times. i am just getting tired of getting bashed because how i chose to play my games. plus i hate people looking down on me.

Please do not go down to that level of fanboy/elite'ism. It makes us all look bad.
In retrospect, I suppose I should have made the tongue-in-cheek a bit more obvious.

I'm not a PC Elitist but I have no urge to buy a console. Mostly Because:

-I already have a computer for Internet and such, so I need a PC anyway.

-I have plenty of PC games I haven't finished yet, and some I haven't or just barely started. Last thing I need is a console(let alone mutiple consoles) trying to compete for my time(and money) there.

-Frankly, most of the games I want to play end ported anyway. I just have to wait a little longer.

-As a Collary, a lot of games never made it to consoles. Many Adventure games, for example(a genre almost completely ignored by consoles).

-For the ones that don't, PC's can emulate. So I can buy the games I want and play them on my PC. Played a number of PS1 RPG's this way, not to mention Mother 3.

-PC tends to have a larger range and a bit more backward compatibility. With the proper software(SCUMMVM, DOSbox), I can play an old favorite from the 1990's on a modern PC. And yes, there are games from years ago that are still worth playing. Just like there are movies worth watching from before films were made in color(and sound, for that matter).

There's a few games I'll probably never get to play unless they get ported or I break down and buy a console. Right now, God of War and Eternal Darkness are the only games I can think of that fit this category. Maybe someday....

I only own Pc so suppose you could call me an elitist. A friend of mine is exaclty the same.
Your changed to use your own internet connection for live, you have to pay to change your friggin NAME! You have to pay for vast amounts of DLC and do not have the modding communities.
More personal reasons are that i prefer mouse and keyboard for the vast amount of input and smoothness, and i am a bit of a hardware geek and love planning and building Pcs.
There are no real exclusives for the consoles that really interest me that much. I was happy enough sticking with GTA San Andreas, Gears of war never really held my attention and i just saw Halo as an inferior opposite of Half life.

.....You know......I give up....it's hard to try and defend something like gaming against people like Jack Thompson when a good 60% of us are attacking each other.

It shouldn't matter what you're playing on, but that you are playing!

For the love of all that is good, just, and lemon-scented, CALM THE HELL DOWN AND ACT LIKE YOU HAVE SOME GODDAMN SENSE!

And just so you know, I have a PC and a couple of consoles.

And you know what? I PLAY BOTH OF THEM EVENLY!!!!!

I wouldn't say elitist it's just that I've played all the consoles and I found PCs to be better in every way except obviously the lack of local multiplayer. The thing is people say gaming PCs are expensive but odds are you'll get a console and a PC anyway so you might as well just get one really good PC. Plus, it's quite unique and it's constantly evolving. There's also a multitude of peripherals.

Besides, I didn't actually read the thing at the top as I realised there wasn't a single capital letter in it. (edit: They've been added now so I will read it)

You can only expect a low level of understanding from a console-tard. <-- TONGUE IN CHEEK!!! (like that)

Mostly it's just the children and people with personality defects.

...

Hmm.. that doesn't really help our case either.

Not trying to be elitist but I prefer the PC over the consoles for a few reasons.
A) Digital distribution means I don't have to hop in the car and waste valuable gas money to go to Gamestop for a PC game, and the fact all of your games get saved to an online account means you won't misplace a disc or its case.
B) The Internet is a pretty good reason, don't need to talk about it because we all know it well enough to see why.
C) Probably my weakest argument is the whole graphics are always improving deal, with new engines coming out every now and again. I'm not a fan of graphics but games should still be visually appealing for their generation.
D) Emulation helps

But why fight each other when the true fanboys are the anti-gaming fanboys 3, Thompson, Vaz, and Atkinson?

I've owned 10+ consoles over my lifetime and have PC gamed the whole way through. I find the complexity of games on the PC is generally much higher than that of the console counterparts and thus prefer those games. I do, naturally, like many console games as well.

I think PC gaming has a lot more of a personal attachment to it as well. For those like myself who build their own machines, it's nice to see your work pay off and burn through a game with a flawless framerate. On the consoles you know yours is the same as everyone else.

To anyone who thinks i am trolling or hating please listen to this. I hate console fanboys and pc elitist/fanboys. I am not attacking any one platform. I just hate the fanboys/elitist that attack you for choosing differently than them. I could have got a gaming pc. My brothers know how to put one together. i chose not to. i just got tired of fanboys/elitists. So i decided to make a thread on it to see what people thought about it. Boy was this thread a train wreak.

Unless you are playing a fighting game, mouse+keyboard mops the floor with a controller. (And I grew up on the Atari 2600 and original NES so I'm no stranger to controllers.)

There are two reasons for this:

1) Speed and Precision - With a good mouse you can instantly go exactly where you want your pointer to go. Using a joystick takes significantly longer (comparatively speaking) to get where you want it and it never goes exactly where you want it anyway. If you're really really good with a controller, you can get close to mouse speed and accuracy, but even for those few awesome players it's still inferior.

2) More Keys - For a game that needs hotkeys, you will get 8 at most. With a keyboard, you can have more than you will ever need. And you can customize them how you want them.

I understand that some people prefer controllers because that is what they are used to or because they like to play while sitting on the floor/couch/bed rather than sitting at a desk. However, those are preference issues, not performance issues. As far as performance and capability, the mouse+keyboard is unequivocally better than a controller.

That being said I don't hate consoles or look down on anybody for playing with them, though I still think that PC is way better IMO. Here's why:

1) Controls (above)
2) Children are much less likely to have their own gaming PCs so the community is more mature on average (I rarely hear a child's voice while playing a game on steam)
3) There are alternate means of communication available with my teammates (I can talk, type, or do either privately through another program)
4) Graphics are better
5) Larger selection of games
6) I can watch TV while I play and/or use the internet
7) MY computer chair is MUCH more comfortable than my futon
8) Mods - 'nuff said there

But there are a couple real issues I have with consoles. A lot of my great PC games are suffering from console ports. Look at the interface in Oblivion. That was a console interface and it fucking SUCKED. Mods were able to fix the display but we were also stuck with the console's 8 hotkey system. It took forever for a mod to create a work-around for that bullshit.

Also, consoles are usually the "casual" players for whom developers are always "dumbing down" games.

Those two things really do piss me off sometimes.

Mods... I am a level designer as a hobby :D
If I had a console i couldn't get skins, mods, retextures, custom maps, custom campaigns...
I don't mind consoles but the PC is superior. Consoles are good to start off, but then PC is the way to go.
