Yeah, so I just figured out that I can actually run some games on my laptop. So, I'm looking for some recommendations.

Requirements:
- Ability to purchase it through Steam
- Not made after 2007, unless it has low requirements for the recommended setting

My specs:
AMD Athlon(tm) X2 Dual-Core QL-64
2.7 GB RAM
ATI Radeon 3100 Graphics (0x9613)
88.3 GB free disk space

Other than that, a brief explanation of why would be nice XD

Also considering Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, so opinions are welcome on that too.

Edit: Is there anywhere I can find demos? It'd be great if I could test a game out before making any of those scary monetary commitments <__<;

Vampire - The Masquerade: Bloodlines is a bit of a cult-classic RPG. It's a wondefully inventive game with sharp as nails writing and some of the best voice work in the business. Just patch it, and you're good to go.

And if you're into point and click adventure games, I highly recommend checking out The Longest Journey.

[Good Old Games] Arcanum, it is my favorite RPG of all time
Castlevania Symphony of the Night (Ok, its an emulator but you should try it)
[STEAM] Morrowind, its a classic
[Good Old Games] Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, they're amazing RPG games
[Good Old Games] Fallout 1 & 2, chances are you know what these are
[Good Old Games] Deus Ex, one of the games that defined RPGFPS games
[Good Old Games] System Shock, great horror game IF you can get it to work
[STEAM] Hexen 1 & 2, great puzzle/adventure games that will eat ALOT of your time
[STEAM] Heretic 1 (Seriously, dont even try 2), Great game, pretty much DOOM but a fantasy base instead of Sci-Fi
Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2, great RPG games especially if youre a star wars fan.
[STEAM] Commandos 2 Men Of Courage, its an RTS but not like you're used to. You control a small squad and perform recon missions and such.
Diablo 2, Oh cmon, you have heard of this
Warcraft 3, custom games are AMAZING
Starcraft, still a pretty fun RTS game these days.
[STEAM] Civilization 3, its my favorite out of the Civ games.. Granted I've only tried 3 & 5 but shush you.

EDIT: Didnt notice you said only on steam..

Black Friday's coming up soon, and Steam always has some kind of an insane deal going on then. Last year I picked up 17 (mostly) great games for $50! Might be worth it to wait until then.

Anyways, going through my collection, I recommend -

The Orange Box (It was released in 2007, and includes two older games. You should be familiar will all these games.)
Company of Heros (Excellent WW2-era RTS.)
Dawn of War (Excellent RTS set in the Warhammer 40k universe. Made by the same company that did CoH)
FEAR (Good FPS/Scareathon)
STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl (Amazing Survival Horror FPS with a dash of RPG. Might be pushing your PC's limits, however. If you can run it, even on low... it's worth every penny.)
Serious Sam (Old school FPS. Very fun, very frantic, rather old. There are also HD editions that you may not be able to run.)
Civilization IV or V if you can run it (Turn based grand strategy games.)

What about other digital distribution platforms like GOG and Impulse? Don't ignore Steam's competitors.

Oh, and post your laptop's specs. It would help us out in choosing games.

I wasn't aware of Steam's competitors. I'm typically one of those console user types

And my PC can actually run Stalker on recommended settings, or so Can You Run It? says >:3

Edit: and fixed ;D

Let's see, off the top of my head, there's -
Good Old Games
Impulse
Direct 2 Drive
Gametap
Xfire
GamersGate
Green Man Gaming
Games for Windows Live

Steam is the biggest of all these services and usually offers the best prices... but they're nearly the most restrictive (as far as what you can do with the game once you've bought it) and a lot of people feel they have a stranglehold on the PC Digital Distribution market. Monopolies are a bad thing, mmkay, but we're pretty far from that at this point.

These are all free, and if you can buy a game from Steam you can buy it from any of these.

To tell you the truth, I love Steam. Steam, Impulse and GOG are tied for my favourite DD services.

I think he means the services themselves. He's a console user type, you see. Not used to the free, open market of the PC. :)

Edit: And I totally forgot Onlive in my list, because they're nearly a category of their own. Look them up, try it out... Very interesting technology at work that will allow your laptop to play ANY game they offer and apparently it works pretty well.

It's free to sign up and you can try out demos to test out how well it works. You don't need a good computer, just a good internet connection.

Yeah, pretty much anything made by Valve pre-Left 4 Dead (Half-Life, The Orange Box, CounterStrike) should be good. What are your personal tastes?
Oh yeah, I also recommend VVVVVV, an extremely addicting puzzle-platformer.

Just fun stuff that doesn't have crazy technical requirements.

Hey, it does not hurt to try.
How much does it cost? Is it a monthly subscription deal? I think I can run it, but I need to know money XD
