And don't worry, your rig will run a decent amount of games. I ran The Witcher 2 on a worse setup than yours (Dual Core, 2GB RAM, ATi HD4350). Play around with the settings for shadow, texture, lighting, ubersampling, etc till you hit the sweet spot. Just don't go anywhere near ArmA 2, and you'll be fine.

Oh, and welcome to PC gaming. ;)
thanks :) will look into the stuff you mentioned!

That computer is about a year better than the computer I was using until Christmas 2009, by my reckoning. That computer ran things like Dawn of War 2 well, but had trouble on very high settings on things like World of Warcraft and Crysis.

You could probably run most new games, but don't expect anything amazing. It might even be unplayable in some cases.

Also, you can get up to 3GB of RAM on that OS. No more.

I had more or less the same specs when Fallout 3 came out and it worked fine (except the release bugs, but that wasn't the computer's fault), you'll be able to run Fallout 3 no trouble. Bear in mind though that mods might not work. Basic expansions should be fine but graphics overhauls will probably be a bit much for your graphics card.

Seriously you're a thief of your own wallet (<- is this a proper English saying, cause I suspect I may be unconsciously translating it from Dutch) if you get a gaming laptop unless you travel often or don't have enough space.
I understood what you meant and it appears to be grammatically proper. However, an easier way of saying it would have been "Seriously, you're stealing from yourself" if you wanted to keep similar wording. If you wanted the same idea, "Seriously, you're cutting yourself a terrible deal."
Fun Fact: A lot of people who have English as a second language often have better grammar than those who speak it natively. At least, that's my opinion.

In my experience of dealing with new games with a high-end 2005 computer, I usually get the textures as high as I can and then worry about everything else. There may not be as many shiny things, but at least you can tell what everything is supposed to be.
