I wouldn't have a problem with it if it wasn't so painfully slow and unresponsive - let alone the poor loading time.

Tell me, have you ever eaten a banana?

Only when you take a bite it turns out it's made of plastic.

And it's filled with poo.

And if you ask the guy you bought it from he just says "You bought it, it's your problem now".

If you have ever done that, then there's no need to repeat it by using Origin.
This in every way shape and form!
Origin is the software that conspiracy theories are made from!
It actually seeks out all of your chatlogs, Skype, messenger, you name it, and sends them back to EA! It tracks everything you do online and sends it back to EA! It has unfettered access to anything you keep on your PC! and best of all it tries to make this all legal by sticking it right in the EULA.
It is the worst kind of DRM and i will avoid it like the plague. At the moment I think it may be a breach of my employment contract anyway, GO propitiatory work data on my home computer!

This "Origin is EVIL" stuff all fear mongering or something?
In a word: You said it.

It's even funnier because the scaremongering was over stuff the beloved Steam does.
Wow you must be an EA fanboy! You love getting account bans and losing all your games for a forum crime.

It's also much easier to be clean when You are single developer/publisher studio and put out 1 game every hundred years, while EA has multiple studios below them and puts out several games a year. Easy to not be guilty if You don't do anything :p
Regardless of Valve's track record, EA, from its inception to present day has had serious problems with their business ethics. Whether it's in dealing with their developers or fucking over their customers. They even had internal strife that ended in a class-action lawsuit (nearly 3, actually).

The problem does not innately lie in the size of their company; but the people running it.
And to date, I will continue to (uselessly) preach that it's the job of the consumer to keep them honest.

I don't have it.

I don't have Steam either.
So far I haven't needed to, and I hope I don't have to.

The games I play haven't so far needed either, as I'm mostly a console-gamer. And play mostly Nintendo DS.

I guess i wont touch let alone open the download page ever. What it boils down to is its either gonna give you the 'ideal' application in which it runs as stated. Or you could get the i need you banking account/tax info/crash my comp. Its like flipping a 3 sided coin for access to half good products.

I don't play games on PC (Have laptop, don't care about graphics, has no problem playing glitched Skyrim on PS3), but I've heard a few horror stories about Origin. I think it was yestersay I read a thread bout how some guy got perma-banned from Origin, and couldn't play any of his games because someone else swore in a post as well as included the guy's username.

I would not touch it with a standard issue 10' pole.

I said the same thing about Steam until someone gave me a free copy of Skyrim. I guess I'd create an Origin account if someone gave me a free copy of Dragon Age 3.

I'll never give money to either service. When those companies go out of business, and they will eventually, you can kiss your games collection goodby.

I'd much rather buy install disks from Amazon or some other online retailer.
Valve has come out with a press release saying that if they ever go under, they'll patch all your Steam games so they can run without Steam.

EA permabans people from playing all their Origin games for one misdemeanour on their forums. Not to mention the spyware allegations.

This isn't apples and pears. This is apples and prickly pears.

Yup, you nailed me. I'm a fanboy for a company from which I haven't bought any games in like 2 years!

Oh. A discount. From 49 euro to 29 euro. You know... it's still more expensive than at local B&M because 29 euro is average price for new game in Poland. Because Valve refuses to use local currency.
I live in Australia. We get stupid markups on games here - Steam (with some exceptions) is the cheapest way for me to get new games. Sometimes I'll find gold in an IRL bargain bin, and sometimes Steam will push something up from its price in America (MW3 for $100? Really? When it sells hardcopy in the US for 60?) but aside from those, I can live with some minor hassles to get games on the cheap.

Example: Sonic Generations. RRP: 99.78AU$. Steam price: $49.95US$, and we have a strong dollar so that's close to $50AU$. One man's trash is another's treasure, I suppose.

I used it for DA2 and was like "so why are people wasting their lives typing a bazillion of forum posts arguing about the evils or good of Origins again?"

It's a service for games. Simple as that.

Unless something massively evil happens here, I think gamers will just end up accepting Origins just as they have accepted Steam.

Because it's not their "beloved" Steam. People really need to realize we need much more competition on digital distribution market if we ever want to have base game price to go down. Currently the only 2 that people speak of are Steam and Origin, but there is GameStop's Impulse, Desura (indie games), GamersGate (mainly for UK people), D2D and GoG (classics and soon indie games). That's not really all that much compared to all the retail chains world wide that sell games.

Monopoly = Bad. Variation = Good.

The idea is to buy the game where You get the best offer. That way You give other services a sign that They could improve.
I personally don't have ANY complaints about Steam in any sense, so I don't see why competition is necessary. Prices are fair, sales are good, varied and often, pre order bonuses if you like that sort of thing, in game UI is easy and very useful, expansive forums full of nerds and geniuses. Valve fanboy's can get a little annoying sometimes, but the all round service is pretty damn good in my opinion.

If anything EA is looking to monopolise the DDS market for their own evil needs. As if they don't have enough money already.

Bottom line, Valve is trying to bring as many people into the PC gaming fold by making things quick, easy and relatively cheap. EA is trying to suck as much money from everyone else as they possibly can.

I prefer steam, Orgin is fine but its store sucks. Its also little invasive, it wants to be used all the time and is just in the way a lot of the time. I see no reason to not get it if you wanna play an ea game.

Origin at least promises 2 years. Steam can do it at any point in time.
Isn't taking away someone's access to every game they bought with the service with hardly any warning doing that "at any point in time"? Although it is for forum bans, it's still another broken promise on EA's part. And I've never seen anyone call out Steam because they woke up and all their games were gone. If you have, could you post a link?

S'alright. The interface is pretty nice, and using the Web Browser for Battlefield 3 is actually not nearly as bad as it initially seemed.
