Mouse and keyboard is certainly no more difficult than using a gamepad; about the only difference that you'll notice is that you can turn around as fast as you want to rather than as fast as the analog sticks will let you.

The benefit of PC gaming is that you can customise your came how you like it. Controls are no different. However, Canape gave the defaults for the vast majority of Source engine games (and broadly speaking, pretty much every modern FPS worth it's salt has the same controls for movement, aiming, weapons selection and firing). You can change them at will.

While talking to my friend on skype, he mentioned steam, and I mentioned getting TF2. I of course, in my ignorance, thought 360 version first. I forgot about the whole Microsoft patch issue, and he reminded me. So he told me get the PC version instead. Now I have one problem with PC gaming, FPS games. Through my life of having a controller in my hand, I can't comprehend owning whoever I see with a keyboard. So, how easy are regular keyboard controls, or is there a controller for the PC for such games like TF2 or CounterStrike?
A. After getting used to them, they're just as natural (if you use a mouse as well). You can make turns much faster, and corrections to aim are easier. The tradeoff is that racing sucks.

B. By an Xbox360 controller for your PC. Yes, they do sell those.

You can get a gamepad, but it's a waste of time.

Hand eye coordination with ergonomic controllers are hardly existent, it's almost second nature. Where as PC gaming Mouse/Keyboard involve not only hand eye, but muscle control, and even wrist movements you don't normally use.

Your body is in fact more invested in the simplicity of a keyboard/mouse combo than a controller, go figure. It allows two hands to determine all movements of a character. This has multiple connotations, allowing for a deeper "feel" to the game.

It's also easier than shit too...so that's always good.

Point + Click is way easier than joystick once you get used to it.

I believe there was a study that pitted pro console gamers against average PC gamers in some sort of hybrid cross-platform FPS test.

The average players with the PC controls not only beat the console pros, but outright slaughtered them every single time.

In short, it is proven that mouse is far superior to analogue control.

Pro-PC ranting aside, I do play both, both are indeed natural and quite easy to learn, albeit take some time to master.

This. It may take a little while to get used to if you're used to using a controller all the time, but I personally find that a mouse and keyboard is a much better control system. Especially for shooters. The only types of games I can actually recommend a controller over mouse/keyboard for are racing and fighting games.

Yeah, after growing up on the mouse and keyboard, it was tough getting good with thumbsticks.

I was in the same boat before I bought my laptop and in fact TF2 was the first game I got because I had it on the 360 and enjoyed it but I wanted the updates, anyway it took some getting used to but eventually it feels alot more natural than the controller... Plus you can turn around REALLY FAST!

You'll get used to it, I felt the same as you once.
Worse comes to worse: Connect your Xbox controller into your PC.

To agree with most people in this thread, M&KB controls are ideal for first person shooters. It only takes some getting used to.

im the complete opposite, i cannot play a fps with a controller. turning is much faster with a mouse and after a few games, you wont remember why you ever played with a controller.

welcome to the pc gamer master race, brother

Yeah, you can get 360 controllers that connect to both.

But to be honest, you get the hang of the mouse and keyboard pretty quickly.

You use a mouse everyday...it's second nature, and moving using keyboard is a doddle.

I suspect you will appreciate how much more control it can offer you.

Yeah, in YZs first "review" of the darkness, he said that the controls would have been better if the game could use a keyboard and mouse [i.e. on the computer]
