PC gamers, what do you do when you hit the limits of your system?

Go into a corner and weep.After that start saving for an upgrade.Should be ready to do so by December.I can still run everything out on the market on High settings but not at 60 FPS which is something that annoys me.This upgrade I'm planning should fix that though.

What's the upgrade?

Lower some settings it doesn't need the highest settings. When games get too much, big upgrade and then I'm good for another maybe 6 years.

I generally upgrade or build a new system if I am at a point where I can't run most things at medium-high at 60FPS.

Lower the settings until it works. I don't upgrade. I just make do with what I have.

so far, only Battlefield 3 and NFS The Run were the only ones that defeated my poor system

Well since we're essentially working off of the capacity of current generation systems... I don't have to worry about that...<.<

since you know even the PS3 is only about a quarter of the power of mah system...<.<

but come next console generation I think I'll be pretty good regardless of upgrades or not...

Consoles are usually pretty groundbreaking at launch, then Moore's law kicks in for PCs and they get left in the dust.

Well, I proceed to Origin PC's website and proceed to construct the most expensive computer possible. Then I drool over it, then cry in a corner for not being able to afford it.

Then I turn my settings down. And install the game on my slightly more powerful desktop to see if there's a difference.

Change the graphics level. If it still doesn't work it will most likely stutter, which I can live with so long as I can maintain above 25 fps most of the time. Hell Arkham city became a slide show in some sections (god damn motion blur) but I lived with it.

Yep, unfortunately I'm not getting great temps in summer cause of how warn my room gets. Gonna get a Corsair Hydro cooler possibly for my next system.

A (somewhat) hypothetical question.

When you've reached the limits of what you can push in terms of performance, what do you do? Upgrade or live with it? I'm asking because a recent gaming session knocked my graphics card offline for a few minutes due to temperatures XD

I research resolutions to the issue, then plan on upgrading later. In your case, I'd look at buying some cheap cooling options, possibly looking at a new case with better airflow. Then look at upgrading in the future when cash flow is better.

Solved the issue by removing the overclock from my GPUs. =D Airflow is fine with 11 total fans.

OT: I can still run Skyrim at 60FPS with a 4 year old card and an average CPU on medium settings. I don't need the ultra realistic graphic "ohmygoditsfullofstars" mod packs that tweak the pixels such that you can see a barbarian's ass hair.

But if I did want to see all that, I'd just get another card and maybe consider getting a CPU with 3.0+ ghz.
