Deus Ex: Soooooooooooooooooo good. I adore this game. Probably my favorite game ever.

Half Life: Self explanatory. Completely changed my perception of PC gaming, and shooters in general.

Star Craft: Up until this game, I found RTS games boring. I was young!

Fallout 1 and 2: Very original setting, awesome gameplay, great characters, HUGE, immersive world.

Serious Sam: The magic of the original Doom taken to the extreme, and grafted to a hilarious story. I have very fond memories of competing with friends in trying to slay thousands of enemies with completely inappropriate weapons.

I spent so many hours with this one:

"Your people desire the full version!"

Also,

Edit: And finally,
Double ninja'd, curse you!

OT: Well since those are taken I will say Civ III and if it's old enough to be considered Sins of a Solar Empire. God I loved playing games with my friends in college that spanned several weekends.

EDIT: I completely forgot Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim trumps my other choices.

I had dabbled in PC gaming for a while, but Half-Life 1 is what made me fall in love with the platform, and it was the first FPS that I really enjoyed. The story and setting resonated with me, and I'm still a huge fan of the series to this day.

Serious sam series. very vibrant games and enemies that are stuck in my head forever (I hear a constant suicide bomber screaming in the distance).

I've been waiting for steam to re-release it because I want it again
MoO 2? I know its not steam but http://impulsedriven.com/masteroforionii

You can install impulse, install MoO2, then uninstall Impulse and link MoO2 shortcut to your steam so you can launch it from there. its $6 and you get MoO 1 with it.

Freelancer. Granted that usually when i reinstall now, it's to try out a new mod, but the core game has outlasted any other that I know of.

Dune 2. Yes, i am that old. Although, i did play it on the Amiga. Doesn't count, does it? I came fairly late to the PC, with Starcraft. That was the first PC game i got hooked on.

Heart of Darkness was an incredible game and caught me totally by surprise. Other than that, I have really fond memories of Fury 3, the Apache vs Havoc games and SimCity 3000.

Alongside all the other obvious ones of course, the likes of C&C, AoE and Doom.

Not alot of people seem to remember TH though.

No One Lives Forever (the sequel is also excellent but I have difficulty thinking of it as "old")
Wow, this is a perfect carbon copy of what I consider as great PC games. I'd like to add 'Anachronox' and 'Realms of the Haunting' to the mix. Cudos, sir, I tip my hat in appreciation of your great taste!

This. Truly stood the test of time for an "old" game, some servers have got communities still playing from yeeeeeeears ago :D
