Dynasty warriors looks like a lot of fun. I love the concept of a million billion enemies all coming at you at once with the one goal of kicking your butt so hard it lands on the moon, and then fighting your way through them in the most awesome way possible (I'm a fan of Serious Sam, which is similar in that respect). The light RPG elements involving equipment are icing on the cake. Unfortunately, most Dynasty Warriors games aren't on PC, and those that are all seem to have their PC versions exclusive to Japan. So, does anyone know of games that are:

On PC

Either compatible or easily altered to become compatible with Windows 8

Involve insane numbers of enemies all coming after you at once, at least 100 at a time in a typical fight

Either don't use GWFL or can be played offline while losing as little content as possible (not DR2, please)

Is in English

Have a lot of single-player content

Bonus points if:

It has some (any amount, from light to entirely based around) RPG elements

It's available on Steam

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The only one I can think of is Warriors Orochi, or Musou Orochi Z. Not really sure where you're going to find a copy lol. Worse, Musou Orochi was never released in English.

Just made a slight revision to my original comment. It has to be in English.

You'll probably enjoy Prototype if you haven't played it. It's not exactly like dynasty warriors, but about halfway through the game once you've unlocked a lot of your abilities it pretty much devolves into the game saying "hey you, unstoppable monster man, run through the streets and kill everything in sight."

It isn't compatible with Windows 8.

Here's what I know:

All three officially came to Windows in English. No idea if they are Windows 8 compatible or not. Usually games that aren't officially Windows 8 compatible can be made to run with proper tweaking though...

Thanks! The god-awful metacritic scores are a bit disconcerting, though. Can DW6 and SW2 run offline, thus avoiding the necessity of GWFL?

Musou games generally aren't well reviewed, since they appeal to a very niche audience. However I can tell you one musou game that will receive good reviews due to pedigree: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyrule_Warriors

A lot of GFWL games can be run using an offline profile:

For all you musou fans out there I want to recommend:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_Warriors_3

It's not a PC game, it's a Wii game, hence it was ignored by the masses. Very very fun co-op game though, especially the Murasame Castle mode.

Yes! Sweet! Thanks a lot. If you know of any others, please let me know. They don't even have to resemble Dynasty Warriors that much. I was just looking for something where there's a ridiculous number of enemies trying to kill you at once.

* Any of the Earth Defense Force games, definitely (only Insect Armageddon is on PC, though: http://store.steampowered.com/app/23530/ )-- if you have a 360 lying around, don't hesitate to check out 2017, the first one released in the US: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ntDyECvmnIo

* Darksiders 1 or 2 -- a little Devil May Cry, a little God of War, a *lot* of enemies

* Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine -- tons of enemies, and this takes a some cues from Darksiders control-wise.

* Red Faction, particularly Guerilla -- you don't start out too badass, but the *thwack* of the wrench weapon is really satisfying, and you can end up in some insane firefights that end with entire buildings collapsing around you ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/20500/ )

* Saints Row, notably IV -- very over the top, goes from an entertaining riff on Idiocracy to an insane Matrix/Tron/superhero game. Using super speed and knocking cars off the road is really, really awesome. ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/206420/?snr=1_7_15__13 )

* 2D-wise, I'm really partial to Nation Red, a dynamite twin-stick (or mouse and WASD, but I've never played it that way) zombie shooter. You're only ever one step away from the hordes in this one. ( http://store.steampowered.com/app/39800/ )

Hope those get you started!

Ooh, EDF! Didn't know any of them were on PC! Space Marine sounds good too. As for Darksiders (both) and Guerilla, I have them. Haven't played Darksiders 2 yet, because I want to beat the first one first. Haven't done that yet because I have a list of games I'm trying to 100% and I'm currently at Skyrim, which has unsurprisingly been taking a while. Saints Row is on my wishlist on Steam. Nation red, however... never heard of it. I'll take a gander.
