i was sitting on my pc playing another awfull online shoot em up. and i started to think.
why is the prospect of the new consols more attractive than a pc. because on a pc you get mods, you can search for the walkthroughs, you can have more complex controls. and you can use your computer as normal. so i was just wondering if anyone still prefers like i do. the good old pc gaming?

Because consoles are cheap and built for you instead expensive and annoying to get going. Most peoples' PC's can't power the new games and it's cost £300 or so to upgrade so it could or at least £600 to build a decent gaming PC, then it'd need another upgrade in a few years. A console, on the other hand, costs about £300 then plays all the games built for it for a far longer time and is generally cheaper to run and only needs upgrading once it becomes completely obsolete. The only drawback is that console games are individually more expensive than those on PC.

That just about cover it?

I do prefer PC gaming because of the reasons you said and for a lot of games you don't NEED to be connected to the internet either, PC games are always cheaper.
But unless you have an up to date computer, with the best graphics cards and processors you can't play half these games.

Consoles are cheap and easy. Two things the masses love.

What many fail to realize, though, is that PC graphics are usually much better than their console counterparts, and that a PC only needs to be upgraded for parts if you want the absolute maximum graphics every time.

In my world consoles have no chance against the Pc. The Pc is more fun, more useful, cheaper and much more interactive. And for me Keyboard and Mouse cant be beaten.
But each to his own I guess, at least untill console fan boys start shouting "Pc GAM<ING IEZ DHEAD LULZ!!", then I get annoyed.
There are many on the escapist who feel the same.

Edit: And the retardation has already begun.
You DO NOT need the most uptodate parts to play any game in existance. £600 would buy you an uber machine capable of eating the sun if you know where to shop for parts.
£400 will get you a machine with 4 years life at the very least.

For me it's all about playstyle. And what mood I'm in. I take my PC Gaming a lot more seriously than my console gaming, which I mainly feel more 'relaxed' with. This generally leads me to buy most my games on console, leaving my PC for the more strategic or in-depth games like RTS and in depth role-playing. Most action games, even action/ role-playing like FallOut 3 and Mass Effect, I buy on console. Only shooter I can even think of on my PC is Postal 2 which has no console version.

Most people prefer PC gaming, but consoles are attractive because:

Easy to learn.

No need to constantly upgrade your system, your new console will run every game released until a new one comes out.

Contains most/all/more of/than the features PCs have.

Why does it always have to be either/or? I enjoy both in different ways. I played a whole bunch of the games I now own for consoles on the PC, so there's some nostalgia involved and some things (like Prince of Persia) are better on the console for the layout (I'm too lazy to go find a good usb controller).

Personally, I prefer PC for the wider range of games and better controls. Also, PCs are useful beyond gaming.

Consoles are cheaper but more limited.

Consoles are cheap, but there's a catch.

If everyone bought a PS3 and only 1 game for it and then did the same for the wii and the xbox360: 1 console + only 1 game, then Sony and Nintendo would go bankrupt and M$ would have to shut down it's gaming division.
They sell at a loss. The games have to make up for the loss.

If you buy many games, then the PC is alot cheaper.

An amazing and factual round up Cpt_Oblivious. Although, why do people still make these threads? Just search.
