Spend a couple hours on one of the many gaming forums scattered across the internet, and you'll see at least a half a dozen arguments about the benefits of PC vs. Console gaming.

I'm not trying to start an argument here, by the way. So let's be civil, eh?

Anyways, I'm inclined to think that they both have ups and downs.

PC gaming allows mods, better online communities (usually), and if your computer can handle it, better graphics. Or at least a mod to enhance the graphics.

That's all some really cool stuff, but consoles aren't without some pull.

For starters, they're machines designed to play all sorts of games and whatnot. And these games that go multi-platform to the PC community, typically look as good, or almost as good as PC games, without the need to buy some new high performance parts every couple of years.

Consoles (to me) are preferred because they tend to be cheaper to start, and don't need to be upgraded constantly. It takes about 6 years, give or take, before a new generation of consoles is released and takes over the current gen.

Also, and this is where I'll probably lose most people, I think controllers are more natural feeling than a mouse an keyboard.

It's probably because I grew up with controllers as opposed to mouse and keyboard, but still.

At the end of the day, though, we're all gamers doing what we love, so does it matter which console is your preference? I personally think that cross-platform multiplayer would be pretty cool. But it won't happen if we keep bickering about whose machine does what better.

Okay, I'm done spewing my scattered thoughts on the subject, feel free to discuss. That's what these threads are for.

Just to point out, cross platform gaming will never be truly balanced because the precision of mouse and keyboard is too far ahead of controllers to keep it balanced.

lol if you didnt want to start a flame war about this why start?
you have 3k+ posts...havent you already seen topics like this 30 gazzilion times?

The lines are drawn simply, PCs are best overall, however Consoles are good for action / party games that just dont make sence on the PC.

Console, PC.

Ain't nothin but forks and spoons. There are things eaten with a fork, things eaten with a spoon, some things can be eaten with either, but no real conflict amongst silverware.

EDIT: Goddamn, you people and your sporks. From now on, when I tell this analogy, I'm gonna mention every utensil I can think of.

I can buy a controller if I want it. Flight games that need a controller are better taken care of my a joystick. That said, consoles are cheaper initially but are outdated and have to be completely replaced. PCs cost more at the start but upgrading can be cheaper.

Mouse has a lot better control and the one game I head that tried it required too much aiming assist for the console players to even stand a chance, instead of 10:1 kill ratios PC:Console it went down to 8:1 when it was really jacked up

It's my opinion that, in the end, it mostly just boils down to personal preference. I've always been a PC gamer, as I never grew up with any consoles. That's about it for me, really.

And then there are some things best not eaten at all.

OT: I have always felt that a console is a more immersive platform due to the miniscule movements required by a controller, but PCs have an edge in general quality of experience due to a high level of customization.

Gamepads feel more natural right up to the point where I have to start pissing about with analogue sticks (although you can just use a gamepad on a PC if you're so inclined, so that's not really in favour of consoles particularly). And whilst console gaming is cheaper initially, I've yet to be convinced that its cheaper in the long run.

The machines are superior, the people aren't.
It doesn't matter that my graphics card is a 6970, if I start moaning about console gamers lack of anti-aliasing, I'm still a dick.

I don't, I'm just saying.

Console gaming is better for me, but I don't see it as the end all.

I don't like using a keyboard to navigate.

also cross-platform gaming already happened, check out shadowrun.

personally i don't really get why people are so off-put with having to upgrade a PC all that really needs upgrading from time to time is the graphics card the rest will last you for a pretty long time, in the end a PC won't cost you more than a console does, especially considering that console games are higher priced than PC games.
if you are not a total idiot and so don't buy the highest end graphics card on the market it doesn't even have to be all that expensive, there is very little difference between the best right now and the best 6 months ago, performance wise, price wise though it's a world if differance.

i have both a Xbox 360 and a PC so i'm not actually partial to either, with some games i prefer the PC with others i like the 360 better, also an Xbox is easier to take with you on vacation or to a friend so it has that going for it too.

yeah so i'm basically in between camps :p

(except that the PS3 sucks balls compared to the Xbox 360  )

PC gamers say - PC over Console
Console gamers say - Console over PC.

Everyone in between says - Who the hell cares? I play on what I've got.

I only bought consoles because I can't afford a new gaming PC that will hold for more than a year, and for the exlusives.

Just so you know - Consoles are cheaper than upgrading your computer, yes. But when you upgrade your computer, it lasts for 4-5 years maybe. A console lasts 6 (as you said). And a console game is much cheaper than a PC one (plus you can pirate games as well) so by my calculations, the console is more expensive.

But as to the PC vs Consoles - It's all a matter of choice. Each system has it's up and downs, but I personally prefer the PC, although I grew up with a PS1.

I prefer my pc when it comes to games I can mod.

For the most part I have fun messing around making new items/npc's/houses and quests.

There are times however, when I just want to kick back and relax on my sofa with my 360.

I don't think either is better than the other. Certainly as a person I don't think i'm better than a console gamer when I only had my PC.

Now I have both does that technically make me better than those that have one or the other?

It's my opinion that creating an argument based on the arbitrary differences between the two is like starting an augment on whither Superman or Batman is better. Why does there need to be an argument? Why can't we just be happy with it. What drives such a silly feud? I don't understand this at all. On a side note, I appreciate your opinions and idea but starting any thread that attempts to discuss the issue always ends in tears, unfortunately.

And anything that can use a keyboard for multiple abilities/items/whatever. For example, the PC version of Dragon Age made tactical fighting much more easier with the actionbar.
