Hi Everyone,

I'm getting a nice gaming rig (desktop) and I really want to see how it performs other that "oh, it looks nice". So, I'm looking for a software that can tell me frames per second, benchmarks, graphic demos, etc.

Any ideas?

Thanks!
Jeff

FRAPS is a good program. It will tell you your in game fps in real time, and you can record videos with it.

GPU-Z has a nifty benchmark mode. You tell it to start recording a benchmark then it takes your gpu clock speeds, mem speeds, temp, fan speed, and some other stuff every second. It is really useful when judging actual gaming temps because you don't have to minimize the program to see your infos.

Also, I think steam has a demo for PCmark 8 you can download, I've never used it but it should get you what you want.

Thanks BC! I've also been told to look into 3DMark, which sounds like it may be the same thing as PCmark 8.

My understanding is that PCMark is for general benchmarking, while 3DMark specifically (and more thoroughly) tests performance in the graphical department.

Yeah, idk what the difference is, a 3Dmark demo used to be on steam but it seems to have been replaced. I don't bother with it because the scores usually aren't much more than e-peen stat padding.

In-game performance is pretty much all I care about.
