Why is everyone saying Crysis to test/show off your PC? Am I the only one that actually thought that was a pretty awesome game? All three of them were pretty fun and awesome. A lot better than MW2...
It is a good game. It's also a good benchmark.

It's like having an interactive version of 3D mark on your PC?

Civilization 4 + Beyond the Sword.
I was thinking of getting that off steam, is it true you take a civilisation from horse+cart to jet fighters? Does that take week-long games or what?
Ill fill you in on Steam (Hi its me; Zedd!) but yes. and no.

STALKER. You owe it to your life to play STALKER. It's like 5 pounds now and a fucking excellent game. I have been playing it since christmas non stop.... So yeah, get that.
I second this, I loved running around in the pitch black with bloodsuckers trying to eat me :D

I would recommend bioware's stuff too - Mass Effect 1 & 2 , Dragon Age etc.
Yes. Buy STALKER.
PC gaming cannot die while stalker exists. Which to get though... I started with Clear Sky, which is apparently the worst in the series. Shadow of Chernobyl is showing it's age, but you should play it first. And Call of Pripyat- only play that after SoC, since it carries on after the events of that game.

The Total war series is good fun, I have Medieval II and Shogun.

Half-life 2, of course. Get the orange box, it has portal and TF2 as well

And Supreme commander for stompy robots. The first one, since the second one is console fodder.
Supreme Commander is great (the 1st one & its expansion; Forged Alliance).
Supcom has far more strategy in it than your average RTS.

Wait for Black Mesa project to be finished (Black Mesa project is basically a remake of Half Life 1, but done for the Source engine. Half Life: Source sucks. But it doesn't matter if you get valve complete pack, since Black Mesa will be free)

Everything mentioned above (except supcom 1) is available on steam, get it there when it's on special because it's far cheaper.

Get Steam (it's free).

Then buy the Valve Complete Pack

In itself it's quite expensive, but it's a huge discount on buying all the games separately.
Then you're covered for shooters for, well the rest of time to be honest.
What he said. But wait for Portal 2 first.

If there is a "Big Box" store near you, check them out. They sometimes have many PC games for $6 each. Some will be fairly new and good games too. Worth checking.

The "complete" mods are a MUST. One came out for clear sky as well.

To all STALKER owners who don't have STALKER complete 09 for shadow of chernobyl - go get this.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/stalker-c...nline multiplayer FPS, you'll thank me later.

I hit my download limit getting this, now BT's going to give me a higher rate charge, making this the most expensive mod ever.

If you've ever see it, check out the THQ Ultimate Bundle. STALKER:SOC, Sup Com 1 + expansion, Company of Heroes + Opposing Force, Titan Quest + expansion and I *think* some Dawn of War in there too. £20. It may be a UK exclusive, however.

Also, Codemasters Racing Pack. FUEL, GRID and DiRT 1. £20. Again, may be UK exclusive.

Also, it really should be required to have the Orange Box. You can get it for £15 these days. (Or wait until Portal 2 and get the Valve Complete Pack for £60-ish.)
