Pc on the escapist.

Ok guys, really? Ive been on the escapist for a while now, watched some great videos, talked to some great people. Too bad most of community is now similar to youtube.
(i do play pc games)
One example are the pc elitists. This is probably the most prevalent annoyance on the forums. One recent topic that sparked the utter arrogance of these people would have to be DRAGON AGE 2. They claim to be hurt by Bioware's "betrayal". They thought that it was Bioware's job to pamper them. They say that Dragon age Two and Mass effect 2 were so dumbed down, that its obvious that boiware is going streamlined. Well maybe you forgot about the MMO that they are working on, that is pc only. Since they are doing a pc exclusive they probably wanted to be fair to the console owners too. Oh well, get over it. If you are such a superiorly pure group of individuals, then im sure you could find another host to leech off of.

Then their are the European Nationalists. Now dont get me wrong, i know there are plenty of other countries that are filled with nationalists, i just dont see it constantly all over the escapist. Every day i always see people exclaim how europe isnt tainted like america, how its pure, and not full of fat fucks. just things like that, all day.

i can understand pride in a country or system, especially when there are unique things about the things in question, but what really bugs me is that the SAME PEOPLE have the audacity to complain about console fanboys, and Americans. What the fuck?

So my question is, how can someone be so arrogant/ignorant(because i know some of your accusations arent well informed) and how the hell can we fix the cancer on the escapist? Its the one place i used to come to converse with level headed people, now it just causes constant aggravation.

Just on this point, you sort of shot yourself in the foot here. I realise it's probably not what you meant but you made it sound like you called Europe a country, which it isn't, and calling Europe a country is a staple of stereotypical American ignorance.

On your other points, bear in mind that the least reasonable people are often the most vocal. Those who believe the PC to be superior and Bioware to be "betraying them" are being unreasonable.

The European "nationalists" are either these unreasonable people, or are joking. Most European countries' humour consists a lot of ripping on people for their race and nationality (British humour especially) so they're used to saying potentially hurtful things in the name of comedy.

There's also the fact that America has a quite unpopular reputation these days amongst the rest of the world, mainly (I believe) because of the "Ugly American" stereotype of the bashful, ignorant tourist that believes America to be superior than whatever country they may be in. It's wrong to judge all Americans like this, but it's what has been presented to them in the media and maybe some real life experience, so some people genuinely dislike it. This seems to be around a lot more recently because of how America was represented during the Bush administration. It'll take a while for the US to rebuild it's reputation.

One last thing, why is this in Gaming Discussion rather than Religion/Politics or Off Topic?

Ignore the Dragon Age 2. That game has become troll bait by being not as good as the last one according to ALOT of people. It's still a good game, though people expected an epic game and so, I ignore all Dragon Age 2 related threads, since they're all started by trolls wanting to decry the game just that little bit more.

As for PC elitism, that's always been here. You're just noticing it more because of the trolls and Dragon Age. As soon as another release comes around that people like but a few had high expectations for, then they'll decry that game. Two likely candidates are Duke Nukem Forever and Portal 2, except both of them WILL be awesome, so there.

I was hoping "PC" stood for "political correctness," which is just as equally an issue that needs to be addressed.

But nonetheless: I highly doubt that the real majority of the posters are as you say, but rather they're just the ones you notice because the voice those viewpoints so loudly and such. In any case, as Erana said, it'll blow over and things will change, so on so forth.

People have opinions, you may not agree with them, but getting upset because someone thinks something that you don't agree with is pointless. So what if a group of people think that Bioware has shafted them? I don't know anything about the case, but some people will always feel shafted for some reason. Yes, it's stupid, but you can't make them change their minds, not by arguing with them and certantly not by spewing bile.

There is no "cancer" on the escapist (gb2 4chan plz). If anything, rage-threads in general would be what we should strive to get rid of, and this falls into that category. Nice job.

So you own an xbox and you live in america ... bravo. Other people play different games on different platforms and live in different places. They grew up in different ways, have different ideals and morals, along with cultural differences.

i will after i reply to people statements and questions, and as for showing the posts, you can probably just look in a dragon age 2 thread, ive seen a few pop up today with similar statements

it isnt a dragon age thread, its a thread about elitism on the escapist, i dont complain or praise the game once in my post, is your skull too thick to process this, or are you just trying to feel cool with your pathetic attempt at "trolling"?

I too have noticed that the PC gamers here are too 'proud'. Looking at user scores on Gamespot, and saw quite a difference between the 360 and PC versions (7.1 for PC, 8.3 for 360). I also wonder why PC gamers are so patriotic about how gaming deserves to stay where it started out. PC gaming is becoming increasing harder to cater for with piracy being on the rise, but the PC gamers just blame the publishers and developers who have to appeal to a larger audience with publishers more interested in porting to other platforms. I've always seen PC gamers as people who complain when they don't get mod tools and console gamers as people who are grateful for what they've got.

There are always exceptions but I guess it's just been bugging me lately.
