Hey everyone! So back when the PS4 and Xbone got announced I decided to jump ships to PC. I built my rig in August and despite some messes here or there, I've been really happy with my experience on PC. But I'm starting to feel like I may have made a mistake. So many games have come out lately that are far inferior on the PC than they would be on consoles. I was really looking forward to AC4, but apparently it runs like ass. Need for Speed rivals is locked at 30 fps and word is it runs poorly, and Battlefield 4 is supposedly unstable as well.

I guess what I'm saying is, even though I like the customization and the pretty pictures, there's just so much more to worry about now. I can't just buy a game I want, I have to check to see if it's optimized and will run, wait for drivers, etc. I'm starting to feel like there's more headaches than fun.

Anyone else feel this way? Anyone have thoughts on the state of the PC? Maybe I was just looking forward to a string of releases that happened to go awry, but it's got me worried!

Yes PC is a hassle, especially with anything ported from consoles, anything from Ubisoft, and most things on launch... sadly devs just get lazy and don't even want to acknowledge they need a far higher standard on PC.

So the best tip is to take time before buying your games, BF4 will eventually be better on PC, AC4 also (but with Ubi this takes ages), NFS is just the same ass the consoles get (maybe some mods will fix it), but you can see where the wind is blowing on this... you haven't got a fire and forget system.

I got a pc a few years ago and recently upgraded to a new one, to answer your question in short: no, not even for a second have I ever regretted jumping ship.

I love my pc, it has all the functionality that consoles have been trying and failing to do since the last gen and there is just so much more variety in the games. sure I don't get to play a few games that I would like but its so much better then the alternative.

My advice about the games is just to wait a bit, usually AAA games are crap on pc for the first few months (maybe even a year) so you just have to wait it out. In the mean time go shop around there are tons of great games out there for the pc

Why would you build a PC for those games? Outside of Battlefield the others are pretty much made for consoles. It feels like consoles are getting shafted this generation anyway, it's just the same shit being released over and over with minor adjustments, Ass Creed, COD, EA sports, Battlefield, Need for Speed, even the infrequent franchises like Dead Rising offer little innovation from what I've seen. As a PC player on the other hand, I feel lucky considering I get to play shit like DOTA and Arma (which wouldn't really work on console) and all of the interesting upcoming games like Dayz, Star Citizen, Wildstar, Archeage, Planetary Annihilation etc. If I bought a PC strictly to play multi-platform games then yeah, I'd feel pretty ripped off.

I'm on the fence about that as well. Building a new PC will set me back about 1300$ (with a base of a 4770k, a 780 GTX and a 250 gig SSD), and I'm not sure it's worth it right now, since everything is ass but you can play the same kind of ass on a 350$ console and save yourself the hassle.

I can sometimes feel regret like how shitty my current build is compared to what others have and can run and then i realise all the hassle I'll soon have near the start of next year when I'll have to save up, look for the right parts, wait for a week and then put the parts together and hope they all function and then maybe then i'll try running the latest games at full.

Nah. As mentioned in another topic one of the main reasons I play games primarily on the PC because I love the strategy genre, a genre that's damn near close to non-existent on consoles unfortunately. They don't get amazing games like Crusader Kings 2 or Starcraft 2, nor indie titles like Mount & Blade or Red Orchestra 2, plus they don't get fantastic mods like The Dark Project or the library of fantastic modules for games like Neverwinter Nights.

All that stuff is just much more to my interest and it's something neither console can offer, which is a shame because a lot of people are really missing out on some brilliant gaming experiences.

No, whenever I notice a bad PC port I ignore it and play the latest PC-only indie game I picked up for 5 bucks. It helps that most of the games that are poorly ported are ass anyways IMO.

Well I didn't build a PC FOR the games I listed, but I'd still like to play them. It seems a shame to have spent so much more money and to find myself shafted by developers who I would normally have supported.

I really have no interest in PC gaming and I know my way around a computer (both hardware and software). Even if there's no major issue, I know there's going to be some little issue that crops up that'll take at least 30 minutes of Googling to find that one forum post where some guy figured out a fix. On a console, I pop in the disc and the game works, it won't be as shiny but I don't care about graphics much. I'm a tweaker and I'll tweak something untill it's perfect, which leads to less game time for me if I PC gamed. Lastly, PC genres are my least favorite and stuff like Bayonetta and Vanquish are only on consoles.

I have a foot in both and if I had to jump ship to PC I'd regret it too. The way I see PCs you get as much out of them as you put it. If you don't want to put any work in and want it to run it's not the platform for you. I don't care about graphics, I find it much easier to put a disc in my PS2 and play than emulate it on my PC even if my PC can make it look better. Exclusives are also a major reason and consoles have much better ones than PC.

Besides can't you just mod games to unlock the FPS limit or resolution like in Dark Souls? That's whats good about PC is you can beat it down and make it do what you want it too while on consoles you're stuck with it.

In the rare case of the new NSF game they decided to lock the physics engine to the framerate in a hilarious display.
Like games haven't done that since the NES and DOS days and it's considered to be extremely bad practice, but here we are lol.

I'm actually staggered they found an engine that had the capability to even do that in all honesty.

OT: I'm mainly a PC gamer and don't regret it for one bit.
I'll probably pick up a PS4 just to play the JRPGs I want to.

My 360 I don't think I've turned on in 2 years.

Eh, I've always liked hunting down optimization mods. Besides, you keep brining up console games. My favorite example to use is Skyrim. Back when that first came out, they had coded everything to run better on a console. The ram limitations, the terrible GUI that works best with a controllers, the arrows in random knees. But we had solutions to all those problems very shortly after we bought the game.

A good point was made though, if you built a new rig not too long ago, and the game runs like ass on the computer... then you can bet it's running like ass on a console. Why do you think a new game has to be patched every week? Aside from the file-system encoding, consoles handle data like PCs handle data. If you run a tight ship, then things run as well as they would on a console.

That said, I consider myself to be a PC gamer and I've kinda left those console games behind. AC4... NFS... BF4... those all seem like games designed for a concole first and then ported to the PC. I could be wrong, but that would partly be the fault of the publishers focusing on advertising the game for a console.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that maybe you shouldn't have jumped ship if you still want to play all of those console-ready games. I think PC gaming is great but I also think that moving directly from a console to a PC is like trying to stop binge drinking overnight.

Incidentally, by the time I could afford all of those games... they'll be mostly patched up anyway :p.

...in the life of the PS3, I enjoyed 8 games on it that weren't PS2 or PS1 games (I have a first-run backwards compatible system that I've upgraded for heat dissipation and capacity. Remarkably like a PC)... 2 racing games, 2 batman games, 2 JRPGs, one kid-friendly puzzle game, and one online shooter that was optimized for keyboard and mouse input (which is a completely viable control scheme on the PS3, and releasing a shooter without that option on any modern system is simply bad game design).

In that time I've played and enjoyed probably close to a hundred new games on the PC I built shortly before the PS3 was released. In January I'll finally be replacing the core components of said PC. No regrets here (but then, I lost interest in most of really popular AAA gaming around 2002).

Welcome to PC gaming, you now know why there is often a lot of resentment towards consoles and console players in a lot of forums.

The PC SHOULD run games better, have better visuals, faster loading times, and has many, many games and even genres and control schemes exclusive to it. It is the device built to give you the best gaming experience [Provided you built it to do so anyway] whilst consoles are built to give people a budget gaming experience.

However, due to the popularity of consoles, multiplatform games tend to shaft the PC platform. Its why I don't get any at launch anymore. Instead I play older multiplatforms and PC exclusive games until a month or so later, then get the multiplatforms at not only a cheaper price, but they also work.

Honestly, if you already have these games, then play them if you must but I'd look at other, PC exclusive games you're interested in for the next month or two instead.
If you don't, I'd hold off on buying them and do the above, or if you've got a kickass PC rig then just buy them anyway and optimisation problems won't hit you AS hard [You'll still run into them, but to a limited extent you may be able to brute force through them. I've had games that people say run like ass run smoothly on my PC before, but it is a bit of a gamble].

i so dont get why people choose to still make using a PC hard. i have an Nvidia card that will set up the graphics option for any game i want if i cant be bothered, there are tons of specialized PC sales places that will talk with me and explain the differences and then build my machine test it install what i want and ship the completed bundle for a 10'er more than the cost of the parts. oh noes its all so difficult how can i cope.

I primarily play on the PC and I've got more games from humble bundle sales than I know what to do with. If PC has one advantage over consoles it's the market place for software. =)

Nope. It may have cost... 3 times that of a console but that is just what I pay for convenience.

I like having access to add ons, community mods, indie titles, not needing CD's, MMO's, MINECRAFT!, more accurate aiming controls and customized controls, two clear dual screens where I can actually multitask while playing and read text ingame, the ability to do my word and basically everything from a single chair.

I always felt like consoles were just giant advertisements.
Like I used to own a 360 and here it's $15 a month to use xbox live... Then it's not even anywhere close to the same online experience... There's always an advert on the home screen when you start up. Like some games do that but it annoys me a lot more on a console where it happens all the time.

Then the controls just never thrilled me... even back in the old sega days. It's just hard to try and be super accurate with an analogue stick and most of the time the auto-aiming or aim assist takes away from the immersion.

I <3 my PC, not even gunna bother checking out this gens console war, not worth the hassle I can basically tell you how it's gunna work.

PREDICTION! WoOoOoOoo!

Both consoles will have exclusives that somehow make them special and unique >_>. They will both also feature the same AAA titles for Christmas, apart from those featuring certain mascots. Both will have basically the same functionality and controls as last gen, but not allow you to use old controls or play games you already own on the previous gens consoles.
