I've been bored sort of recently, and wanted a long lasting RPG to play on my PC, I mean I have Oblivion and Fallout 3, but what i dont like about those is, while yes they have big explorable worlds and such, but they have no real dungeons or noteworthy stuff like that, like you'll be going through a big building, and get to the end, and theres...a few medpaks and some ammo..yay..

I want an RPG, with dungeons and stuff that I actually want to go through, with bosses at the end, and actually good rewards at the end, like some gold, and like a stat modded shield..sort of like Diablo (i already have both)...

So does anyone have any suggestions, or just such a thing exist outside of MMOs?

I read what you wished for your RPG to have in it, and so I am going to suggest something completely different because I'm like that.

If you haven't yet played Knights of the Old Republic, go and play it now. Or perhaps Earthbound (but you didn't hear the ability to play it on the PC from me).

I've played both KotoR games and love them, and if anyone says it, I've played Dungeon Siege 2, which was pretty fun, but not nearly as well done has Diablo was

I'll second these guys above with recommending Bioware games. Some of the older ones can be pretty challenging at normal difficulty, but very hack and slash and diablo-y at low difficulty. Bump the difficulty up and you might have to plan out every fight carefully.

Baldur's Gate w/ Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur's Gate 2 w/ Throne of Bhaal
Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2
Neverwinter Nights 2, I don't really recommend any add-ons for that one

All of these games have some pretty huge dungeon-crawls(epically long ones in Baldur's Gate 2) and the developers paid a lot of attention to detail with item drops. Every risk has a suitable reward, for the most part.

I saw some thing about the Witcher, but I don't really know what its like, so any like..favourite bits/good qualities about it would be nice to hear about..

And to what Dasqoot said, my younger brother has the gold edition of Neverwinter Nights 2 (which includes the main game, and the Mask of the Betrayer expansion), so I might try that out, but why wouldn't you recommend the addons?

Baldur's Gate II, hands down - it's easily one of the best RPGs ever made, with so many hours of gameplay and exploration that you'll lose count.

Hmmm...
I would strongly recommend:
The Witcher
Neverwinter 2
Dark Messiah: Heroes of Might and Magic (okay, so it's more of an action-RPG, and lasts about as long as you are willing to plough through it for the different gameplay mechanics and slightly different endings, but I still had plenty of fun with it at the time)

Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Fallout: Tactics

Bard's Tale (at least I think there's a PC version)

I'll post again if I can think of anything else.

Sweet.
I was actually just about to make a thread about this, as in single player rpg's
*book marks*
:3

Oh yeah give mass effect a try, it's a good game and the sequel is coming out in a little while.

Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl is KINDA like a rpg.. it's a bit of a stretch, as in there are no stats, and it's a FPS... but as you go along you get stronger gear, better "artifacts" which boost your stats...Oh and you can rummage through dead people.

eh that's all I can think of... @_@

Every product made by Black Isle.

Planescape: Torment is my favorite, though it's more story driven then most.
Icewind Dale is Incredibly hard sometimes. The second one is better.

the first Dungeon siege is better than the second.

Nox is a lot of fun.

Might and Magic 6 and 7. I recomend using walkthroughs, even on your first go at it. Of course, find one that doesnt spoil the story line. the reason I say this is because it is too easy to miss something in the game. Something important. Something that you needed to do in town before you went to the dungeon. Something you needed to know so your characters wouldn't die.

More for M&M6 than 7 though.

Wizardry 8. An excellent game, but You definetly need a guide for this game. Especially with Party creation.

The rest of the Diablo series.

I will be honest with you. Neverwinter Nights is lacking, compared to Baldur's gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, and Planescape Torment. Now Neverwinter Nights is worth your time, just not as good as the others.

Read my mind. I can only think of KOTOR atm and maybe Trine. The latter is a puzzle plaformer though with a mild RPG bits to it.

I couldn't agree more. It has so many hours of immersive gameplay,a n excellent levelling system and thanks to the patch, pretty decent dialog. I also think the combat system is rather good and i found the depth of the alchemy and the amount it is needed rather unique. It has some great cutscenes too, especially the first one where geralt is fighting the striga.

I would also reccomend, just like nearly everyine else, the KOTOR games

The Witcher is a great game for storyline and has quite a mature theme. The graphics and atmosphere are amazing and the game itself can last to around 80 hours on the box so you get your money's worth! It can play out in 3rd person or an overhead approach to control your character and the combat is quite visceral and impressive, having different fighting styles to use, as well as different swords. You need to pick the right style for particular enemies etc to be most effective. It has a nice levelling up system with lots of upgrades to choose, and you level up quite quick as well. They've also released a free upgrade to those with the original edition (the enhanced edition is cheap now anyway) that improved the graphics, loading times and voiceovers (all dialogue is voiced over, which is nice.) I'm sure I've missed out a load of things that I should have mentioned but overall it is a great game, check out a review online or something :)

How about Last Scenario? It's a rather nice 2D RPG available for the PC and is offered at the low low price of free.

The original campaign in Neverwinter Nights 2 is... alright. It's nothing grand, but it's fun the first time through. Mask of the Betrayer however, the first expansion, has an incredible singleplayer campaign. Some of the best fantasy storytelling put into a game in quite a long while, not all the surprising really when you consider the people who made Planescape: Torment were behind it.

That's why I'm a bit surprised dasqoot earlier in the topic didn't recommend the addons. Mask of the Betrayer is amazing. Hell, if it'd been it's own standalone product on release rather than just an expansion I might even rate it a bit higher than The Witcher which was released that same year.

And don't forget in the case of the NWN series, both one and two, there's also a HUGE amount of mods out there to play through. Motb campaign aside, that's the best part about the NWN series; the fan-made campaigns.

You can find em here, although I'd suggest finished the OC and Motb campaigns first... that is if you find you enjoy em. The games are not to everyones tastes and the gameplay is a bit hard to get used to really.
