This is my current computer, stock

It's only today that I started trying to figure out how to build a computer so I watched Newegg's videos and got the basic gist of it I think.
In practice though it got prohibitively expensive, and since I already have this not too old computer right here I figured I could just replace a couple parts and get a major performance boost out of the same box.
I want to replace the motherboard, power supply, video card, and processor. Everything else should be reusable right?
My budget is about $450, and any help, if this is at all possible, would be greatly appreciated.

The Wide, Brown One.
You could get away with just replacing the CPU, GPU and PSU. Mobo will run a decent AM3 CPU/single GPU setup no fuss.

I'd go for a Phenom II X4 955BE CPU, whatever GPU takes your fancy, and a 500-600W certified 80+ PSU.

Yeah you'll be fine to upgrade those things. But the case may make the task hard since the OEM's like to fiddle with their cases to make upgrades hard. In that case, I'd advise buying a new enclosure too.
