This is just my opinion as a player.

But everyone has to start role playing somewhere and it might as well be something awesome.

as for your character, build him/her/it as you want it to be. If you want something more beast than other than build the backstory a bit and make it so. The only real limitation is dont make something that is only about destruction for destruction's sake.

I actually asked about experience in the first reply post. Engel said she didn't mind what level you're at. In fact, from my perspective it's nice to see a fellow noob is joining in.

name: bolt god of weather and life
Backstory:
once a simple beast he was tortured and experimented on by his kidnapper that give him the power of lighting and the whether. He grow to know nothing but hate for all things. When he came to this new planet his hate would have stayed in his heart if he didn't found a place of beauty. It was a land called Genesis and when he first came to the land it filled him with joy. He stood there for a few years until a great evil came. A monster made of the same thing as the ship he come in. he stood taller then any Mountain and started to striping the land of all it live. He tried to stop it but he couldn't. when he awoke their was nothing but bare land. All the things he love were gone. Hate would have filled his heart again if not for a lone flower.
When he saw it he know that their was still hope for this land and ever since he has been recreating the land with that flower being the center of it but a lot bigger. A land that he will protect forever.

+4 weather: This powers help him create the land as he see fit. He also uses his power to scare intruders away. it also give him the power to shoot lighting and ice from this horn. If worst come to worst he can summon tornadoes, hurricanes, and earthquakes but he will only do that if no other option are left because it would also destroy the land he loves.

-2 machinery: with his past with machinery it no surprise that he can't stand it and try his best to keep it out of his land.

Core Values: nature, whether, piece, the land, and the circle of life

What you want out of game: to build a land and have fun with it.
that took longer then I expected. hope you guys like it.

Here goes.
Name: Gi'zeal The Obsessed

Backstory: Born as an outstanding parasitic clump of genetic code on his homeworld he was safely burrowed into the brain of his host when he was abducted by the ancients, it was a comfortable life as his host was maintained in far easier conditions than their primitive homeworld, soon he was driving his host to perform better and better for their new providers to gain even more comfortable circumstances, altering genes to drive his host's needs to suit his own.

It became apparent to the ancients that the qualities that his host possessed were nothing compared with the gene and mind altering abilities of the parasite. They cultivated it for their own use on other subjects. Growing in complexity Gi'zeal took dozens of hosts of incredible power, his mind and control exploded into the world of language and ideas, these codes seemed no different to his eyes than that of genes. The need for reproduction, the need for wealth, the need for acceptance all desires he could promote to his own ends. The world of ideas now his tool he transcended the physical driving the desires of his subjects to extend his will, to gain more favour from the ancients, to feed his power.
He grew into a being of near omnipotent power languishing in the strength granted by manipulating an army of gods, but he could have more. He reached out into the minds of the ancients?.

Gi'zeal did not remember what happened next, only maddening loss. Something had happened His many hosts were gone, he was confined to a single entity, and he was weak. Stranded Far away his infinite power was gone, and for the rest of his existence he would do anything to have that power again.

Domain: +4: Need (obsession) - Gi'zeal's power comes from the desires and needs of others, living his whole life using other's cravings to fulfill his own. Be they personal wants such as vengeance or biological imperatives such as survival and reproduction Gi'zeal may take these to an overwhelming force, or alter the environment to fuel them (not fulfil them). A pack of wolves may breed for generations selecting only for sharper fangs and aggression, or a cautious foe might be struck with a paralyzing fear for their own survival.

Drawback: -2 Contentment (peace) : Gi'zeal is driven and born of desire; something that has everything it needs/wants is useless to him. That goes double for those that have accomplished some kind of inner peace. Of course this covers things like mountains and weather (but not plants or ecosystems)

Core Values:
Manipulation: Power over others through control and deceit. Gi'zeal will lie, and control just to watch others dance on his strings.
Vanity: Gi'zeal thinks everyone must see him as he see himself, glorious, intelligent and handsome (regardless of circumstance) therefore his ego is easily bruised and he likes to keep his parasitic origins on the quiet
And most importantly: Power for Power's sake.

What you want out of godgame: To stop at nothing to reach the summit of power. Manipulate any god or race. Destroy anyone who stands in my way. And make any sacrifice to achieve that goal.
This does not mean being all powerful alone if fulfilling others desires (or at least fueling them) suit my own. well that's what i'm all about.

Gone back and forth so many times on if my domain is overpowered or underpowered.

I thought of more questions. Behold:

1. What is DC?

2. This planet we crashed on, is it completely arctic, or did we just happen to land in an arctic section of a typically varied planet?

3. Could you please further clarify the difference between actions 'Create magic item' and 'forge magic item'. The forge option has levels, so I assume it's more powerful, but just how much more powerful is it?

DC is Dificulty, so when you do the action the GM rolls some dice and adds in your domain to that number, if it meets or is higher you do it, if it is lower you fail. low enough and it might hurt you. in past games it was two D6's that were rolled then your domain and anything else that needs to be taken into consideration added or subtracted from that number.

I don't know anything about the planet.

what i assume the difference between create and forge is, is that you can reforge something to make it stronger but something that was created is set as what you made. This is the first time i have seen these as two separate actions.

So what would you use create for? If it doesn't hurt a god, then it can't be much use. Unless you give it to your pet mortals so that they can better slay other people's pet mortals, or something low key like that.

So to clarify, DC is the cutoff score you need to reach with your dice and bonus numbers combined? That makes sence. Higher DC means lower chance off keeting the cutoff. Yeah, I get that.

Yes, that is how DC works.

As for creation, it is to use in the game to give flavor. Plus most of us will only have one nation as a main one with some other extra worship from others but that will be small. So giving them to the king or emperor of your nation means they are more powerful.

Plus flavor, extra crispy vorpal flavoring.

Might give control over a large number of mortals, or allow them alter a natural environment or maybe just something to make your "pet" mortals happier to follow you or a more stable society. I can see a lot of uses for such a low cost action.

What are the consequences for failure I wonder? can you accidentally create a piece of divine garbage? if you critically fail a World Action do you risk apocalypse?

also I'm a bit confused as to what is considered "combat" is this any kind of conflict between gods? if Taumel is attempting to drive me into retreat with illusions, while I try to send her into a paranoid mistrust of possible allies do we run the risk of losing ranks?

We need more people, usually the recrutment time is a week or three.

I have two friends who are thinking of submitting, but one is sick and the other is busy with school for the moment.

Name: Ar'Guran

Picture:

Backstory:
Born to a world of boiling tar and polluted skys he was taken when he was in his adolescence. Kept under observation for many many years he grew into his full size and weight after several decades, his veins running thick with the same tar that covers and contaminates his home world.

Only remembering the most basic things from his own people he was forced to learn many of the hidden secrets about his own body under the ever watchful eye of the kidnappers. When they decided that he was special and could be used for more experimental tests and study he was moved into the special containment at the same time as a few others giving him the first real sight of other creatures other than himself.

Gaining powers from the experiments made his body twist from its original form into the one he has now, not a great change but enough that he is unique from any other that first came form his home world. Being forced to use his new power on lesser creatures they had collected he soon found he could effect both them and the box around them as well as the restraints, changing them in at first small ways and later larger ones as he grew with his new powers.

His original long lifespan made even longer he has no worry and very little thought about the future, rather chosing to move through time and corrupting things around him turning them into versions that are more interesting to him. The pain and cruelty he had suffered at the hands of those who kidnapped him makes him care less about using the same methods on others even if the pure evil is not behind the acts.

Domain: +4(starting) [Corruption]
Corruption of the body, mind or soul. He reaches into another and twists them into a corrupted version of what they used to be, making them open to his voice and choices. Spewing out liquefied corruption from his body and infecting something he takes direct control of its changes and turns it into anything he wishes.

Drawback: -2 [Purity]
He is unable to directly effect anything truly pure, like a child or a peaceful meadow without anything corrupted in it. Trying to effect them is hard and causes him to try pulling away making it all the harder.

Core Values: Never being under someone else ever. He has chosen to be as evil or cruel as he needs to be so as to never be controlled by another.
Any he takes control of are under his wings, and are given the same feeling and intensity to keep them from being under anything else control other than himself.

What you want out of godgame: Being evil without being a dick. I want a good game and an awesome time that goes on for years.

Here is my sheet, give me some feedback cause i know i missed something in there.

Yes, im a bloody dragon who's breath weapon is corrupting tar. Muahaha
It looks quite interesting to me. I can't see anything you've missed, except maybe title but that's more optional.

Name: Arora, the Heartfire

I imagine she wears the veil thing with a bit more conservatism most of the time, but you get the idea.

Backstory: Arora came from a planet where caste was everything. She was part of the lowest tier of society; the Slaves. At the time of her abduction she was lying in a cold cell, awaiting her turn on the execution block. She had become romantically involved with a Noble, had even conceived his child, but when they came forward to ask permission to marry Arora had been dragged away in chains. For such a union was forbidden in this place. It was then that she was taken by these Beings from the sky. She lost her child shortly after, having suffered too much from her imprisonment, but in its place she accessed a different kind of inner potential; the intensity of her love became her most powerful gift, and hope for the future, a hope that had long since withered, was rekindled. Now that she is free of the Beings, Arora plans to make this hope into a reality; to build a world where people need not suffer how she did. This time she won't let anything stand in her way.

Domain: +4 Love. Arora has dominion over all forms of love, from the most base instincts of any multicellular organism that reproduces sexually, all the way to the most abstract mutual affection two sentient creatures might share. This does not include love of commodities, love of music, or even love of a country; she is only focused on the relationships between living creatures, which DOES include romance, familial bonds, friendship, and even love of one's pet. All these things are under the control of Arora, and it is from them that she draws her strength. She can use love to prevent or weaken attacks against her, and can even realise the Fires of the Heart, which she can use to physically scorch others.

Drawback: -2 Trickery. Love is a blind, naive beast, and does not hold out well against exploitation or false intentions. Trickery is something Arora finds difficult to stomach, both committing it and dealing with it.

Core Values:
Freedom to love. Arora does not believe the feelings between any two mutual lovers should be restricted, nor does she believe it right for anyone to maliciously force their love upon someone who does not feel the same way.
The trust of honest intentions. Exploiting love for some kind of sinister motivation is a most grievous sin in the eye of this goddess.
Acceptance. Arora's vision of the future does not work with insular, discriminating communities; in her eye any such communities need to either take up new values or suffer total destruction.

What you want out of godgame: Not only to raise up an empire that nurtures mutual love, but to expand her people beyond this confine and to integrate them into other communities. This goddess would like nothing more than for her patron race to be loved and accepted by those of all the other gods, so that there is no place on the planet where sentients are not free to love one another. Arora does not want to take over the world; she just wants to be the most popular god in the neighborhood.

I hope I don't completely fail now. Not really the romantic type.
She looks good to me. The backstory and motivation is well done.

Name: Venari

One will be added in the next day or so. I wanted to get my sheet up but I couldn't find a pic I was satisfied with.

Description: A tall lean human looking man with pale skin, short white hair, and blue eyes with slit pupils. His teeth are sharp and pointed, almost conical in shape and interlocking. He usually appears wearing a suit of stitched together elk hides carrying a long spear made of what appears to be ice or glass.

Backstory: Venari wasn't so much born as created. Created through experimentation on a series of highly complicated and barely sentient machines stolen from worlds across the universe and possibly beyond. The machines became one over time in purpose and eventually ascended their limitations through the work of their keepers. They became a swarm of very tiny insect like machines bound by obscure energies bleeding to and from other dimensions becoming something powerful. While the machines were held in storage during the "escape" they eventually escaped their holding cell, infecting and consuming and controlling and replacing a creature unlike itself but had been experimented upon in the same way.

Venari took on the creatures form and certain aspects of its mind which it had absorbed, adapting it to match the locals in the environ to better survive.

Venari has the mind of a man and a machine simultaneously. Unsure of what to do with its existence it wishes to carve one for itself. Calculating, Intelligent, and cool under pressure would be good ways to describe it currently. Though the mind of the man has instilled certain desires, such as to kill and to eat and certain other human acts. The act of hunting and killing an animal being sacred rights in the mans homeland. In time it is likely that the amalgam will become closer to that of the man in the presence of so many mortals.

Domains
Code:
[b]+2 Purity:[/b]
Purity of Purpose and Form and Mind is the foci for his powers. Whether it be healing or working materials considered pure or engaging in acts with a purity of mind or purpose.
Code:
[b]+2 Hunt:[/b]
The Struggles of an honest life keep men pure of thought and purpose. The act of hunting is a source of strength though so are the symbols of the hunter to him.
Code:
[b]-2 Impurity:[/b]
Intolerance of corruption in mind and flesh, leads to a certain inability to affect it. Though he supposes his control of the inverse would give him a degree of control over it through purifying it.

Core Values: Purity of Form, Purity of Mind, Purity of Purpose, Nature, Hunting, and The Circle of Life

What you want out of game: To enjoy this. Pick an area I like and develop it into what sounds interesting to me.

It's mostly done, I however felt like getting it up now on the off chance I've missed something (other than the picture) or something needs to be corrected and feedback is needed.
It looks good. Maybe expand a bit on the domains, and perhaps change impurity to corruption, since they're kind of synonyms and would likely be counted as the same anyway.

I'll decide the consequences of failure on a post by post basis, and how the posts are written. You may risk severely damaging the world or a part of it with a failure, but apocalypse may be a bit extreme.

No, it's not all kinds of conflicts. The player need to actively state that they're attacking another god in their actions. If one wants to fight or argue without actually attacking with a domain that is fine. It's happened before when I've been godgames. Yes, you do run the risk of losing domains if you do combat for real.

I'm waiting for at least Lily and possibly Doc to post their characters before anything. I'll probably wait a week or two before starting the RP, counting from when I posted the OP.

Also, I'm fine with starting and running this with a smaller group. I'd much rather have a few active and dedicated players than many who just end up dropping out.

Yes and no. Impurity and Corruption generally mean the same thing but they have slightly different connotations. They are essentially the same mechanically and Purity would be an opposite of both but Corruption implies a certain malevolence to things while Impurity could just as easily mean said malevolence as it could the mundanity of contaminated water in modern society or the wrong kind of thought at the wrong time.

I can change it if you want, but I found distinction between the two. An odd thing to latch on to I know.

Otherwise, How much more detail should I put into the domains? I thought I had put enough down for them and I'm not sure what to add.

Nah, you can keep it then. That was an acceptable motivation for it.

I suggest you look at the other sheets for how much details might be good. You could put down how you'd use them, with basic examples for creation, and combat.

A few questions about the games story:

1. Probably yes.

2. Well, time may pass differently for the gods compared to mortals, but yes, it would probably take place a couple of years after the initial crash while they're still new to the planet. They wouldn't have performed any actions to affect the planet yet though.
