Penny Arcade has a kickstarter going that would fund their site ad free for a year. I used to donate through the old "Honor System" back in the day and its great to see that come back. I would love to see this work. Ads are nice because you get your content for free, but they can be annoying. It would be amazing if people could start funding their favorite sites and shows directly.

Yeah, a deliberately evocative title. A better one would be 'Penny Arcade kickstarter' rsther then 'sell out', which has much stronger connotations.

But yeah, seems a decent idea. Reading the post (Admittedly, somewhat justifying your title) they seem to be doing it for good reasons, rather than for the money (of which I'm sure they currently have plenty).

The top goal is 1,4 millions? Am I reading that right?
This... seems a bit much unless the surprise is something like hiring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman for a jetpack fight.

As was pointed out at the extra credits forum, it's weird that they describe themselves as selling out, when they're trying to change their source of funding from advertisers and such to a more direct link to the fans.

That's like, the opposite of selling out after all.

I was just copying their title. Besides, the evocative ones are the only ones that get read ;)

I think they employ 18 or so people. Assuming an average salary of $45,000 (I have no idea how much they all make, its probably more) that's over 800k right there. That doesn't include health insurance, facilities, or whatever else they pay for. Businesses be expensive.

Just say "you will never see Morgan Freeman fighting Scarlett Johansson with big foam bars while flying through the air"...

You know that PA are the ones saying they are selling out, not the OP? I mean, did you even click the links?
Yes, hence the "(admittedly, somewhat justifying your title)". I mean, did you even read the post?

They said they employ 14 people, I believe, though they also run a charity and 2 expos, so that's got to need a lot of capital.

Do ads really bother people that muc... Never mind if I ever have to hear that olympics ad again I'm going to launch a terrorist attack on the opening ceremony while screaming "THAT'S LOGISTICS!"
'When the tal-i-ban, get their bombs from Iran,
...that's logistics.'
