Currently at 86% on the favourite site of DC fans, looking forward to it as I adore the first one.

I saw the film. It's more of the same. You liked the first one, you're gonna like the second one. The plot is, I think, straight out of every sitcom that's ever gone on for too long. You've seen this in The Simpsons, Family Guy and I think Futurama as well.

Choose between your no-show asshole of a biological father and your loving, caring, adoptive dad.

So it's a weak, predictable story with one heartfelt moment (thank you Michael Rooker) and your reliable 1980s-culture-is-treated-as-mythology-by-aliens humor from movie #1.

To be fair, MCU movies are pretty much made for Rotten Tomatoes' rating system as it displays the amount of positive reviews more prominently than the average score (Though, to be fair, unlike game reviews many movie reviews don't give out a numerical score) which means as long as you manage to be slightly above mediocre you're gold. And if nothing else the MCU has turned being slightly above mediocre into a science. So... I'm sure this one's gonne be like the other 20 movies. You know, it's not even like I activelye dislike those movies, I just can't for the life of me fogure out how people haven't gotten bored of them yet.

Guess I'm a zombie then.

That said, I intend on seeing Guardians 2 tomorrow. The first film was "meh" for me (like most MCU films), but it's better than the alternatives that tomorrow will present for me.

Is there a particular reason why the film premiered in Japan first? I never understood why U.S. studios do this.

I only watched it because people told me it wasn't a superhero movie.
But... It's not, really.
It sorta kinda is.
If it is, then so are a lot of shows/movies set in space.

If it wasn't tied to the MCU, the idea of Guardians being superhero-based likely wouldn't come up.

Every Guardians movie is about learning the value of teamwork, just like every Avengers movie and every superhero team movie.
And the Guardians are always saving Earth/the universe, just like the Avengers.
You can even draw comparisons between both line-ups. The lead Quill/Cap, the noble and antiquated Drax/Thor, the bossy female Gamora/ScarJo, the snarky Rocket/Stark and the brute Groot/Hulk.

I dunno about Japan; here in South America it's a measure to combat piracy.

A few days ago they were saying they might have a gay character in the movie. This has now been clarified to mean that there are characters not explicitly stated not to be gay.

Then fifth element would be a super hero movies too
Because the world needs saving? At least that movie had an original look.
