So, I saw the movie today, and it was...fine. Okay. Enjoyable. Decent popcorn flik. Pretty much your standard Marvel movie. Not among the MCU movies I consider to be genuinely good, but probably the best "okay" one (so, off the top of my head, think that would give it the #4 spot of all the MCU films I've seen).
Which, by extension, makes it better than the first Guardians, and, yeah, I think it is. The characters have a bit more depth, the writing is about 70% humour to 30% serious, and I think it's a balance that works. This also includes the villains - Nebula feels a bit more fleshed out, Ego is more interesting than Ronan (if nothing amazing), Yondu...come to think of it, I think it's the villains that benefit the most in this movie, at least as far as characterization goes.
Oh, and you know what else is nice? The movie is a sequel to Guardians 1, and little else. Unlike Civil War, I didn't feel I was missing out by not having watched non-Cap films. If you're a fan of the wider MCU, then this film could be considered filler, in that it doesn't really add to any wider story outside the Guardians themselves, but hey, I'll take it. In a way, that's a benefit for me.
So, decent space flick.
Edit: Come to think of it, there's blatant exposition at the start (yes, discuss what the gold people hired you for for the sake of the audience, and have said golden people start talking about their culture AFTER they hired you), and blatant product placement (a big "Sony" close-up on the walkman, the Zune...gah!), so, um, boo.
