So I decided to take a walk down to my local McDonalds, cause I was in the mood for a cheeseburger. I went inside, placed my order, and waited patiently. While waiting, an elderly gentleman walked up to the counter and immediately asked to see the manager. Apparently they didn't give him enough fries, and I knew this cause the elderly dude seemed to want the entire McDonalds to know...he was the loudest guy there. I watched the entire interaction. The elderly guy was loud, abrasive, and honestly, just plain rude. He cussed at the manager, proclaiming to the entire store it was the last time he would set foot in a McDonalds.

Now despite all of this, the manager kept his cool. He never lashed out at him, calmly apologizing and getting him a fresh new batch of fries, this time filled to the brim. The elderly man refused, rather rudely..and stormed out of the McDonalds.

A week before this happened...I went to the same McDonalds and ordered a Double Quarter Pounder. When I got the burger, I found that they didn't put the 2nd pattie on my burger. Now I am a rather calm sort, so before I ate the burger, I got my receipt, walked up to the counter, told them what the problem was, and showed them my receipt. You know what happened? They got me and entirely new burger with the biggest and freshest patties that came out fresh from the fryer. After that, I thanked them, and walked back to the where I was sitting, ate the burger, and the rest of the day went swimmingly.

I did not overreact...I did not make a scene...I was polite about it, and in turn the situation was quickly and expertly resolved.

That man was completely out of line, and he should be ashamed of himself. Yes, he paid money for fries but you know what? The manager wanted to resolve the issue so he got him a fresh batch of fries...and still the man acted like an asshole. And while this entire situation was going down, I couldn't help but compare how I dealt with one of their mistakes, to how he dealt with their mistake.

Now I don't care what has happened to you, you have no right to take out your anger and frustration out onto another human being unless they give you a reason to do so...a legit reason. For example, that man would have been completely justified if the manager decided to give him lip. But when people are just so outright rude to one another for the littlest of reasons, I tend to get pretty infuriated.

What about you guys? Do you have any stories like that? Granted, I really don't want this thread to turn into a collection of stories about how Customer service was rude to them, rather I would like to hear stories about how they observed People being rude to customer service when really there was no reason for it.

There are just some people like that, I have personally never seen horribly rude customers like that but I do know that employees are very accommodating if you are nice. While I already blamed my own stupidity for burning my self on a hot dish at a restaurant my waitress "apologized"(quoted because she had no fault in this scenario) by bringing out a small desert on the house.

Also with the right outlook you and the employees could shake it off and reverse it into a funny incident.

A little bird told me(that's the captcha), that Not Always Right is a fun place to find those stories.

Yeah, I remember a few times like this when I worked at Tim Horton's (as all Canadian children are required to do, by law). It gets worse when you let them promote you to supervisor as you get to deal with all the complaints. My favorite legitimate and non-legitimate complaint are as follows.

Legit complaint: Customer phones to complain that when they ordered a coffee with half-decaf in it, they received a half full cup of decaf coffee. I managed to convey my condolences, offer them a free beverage next time, and hang up before laughing incessantly.

Not-so-legit complaint: I get a call about some screw-up at the drive through that was apparently unacceptable in some way (I forget the details) and this woman harangues me at length about this. So after sitting through her rant I ask which of our two drive throughs messed this up so badly. After a pause she tells me I must be mistaken there was only one drive through. I give her the address of our store and ask her if this was the store she went to. Her response: Of course it was! I definitely went there! But I have to go right now! Then she hangs up. 10 minutes of listening to someone whine at the wrong store!

I don't like most employee's. They walk up to you in retail stores all smiles and "How can I help you sir or madame?" But I know they are paid to smile, so I always get very cold towards people "just doing their job".

I assume half the people that are being nice towards me in retail are the same kind of people that were bullies towards me in school. If I want help I'll fucking seek you out!

*cough*

Oh, those complaints are alwayssssssssss interesting. I used to work at a Jimmy Johns and got promoted to Shift manager in like 3 months. So I got to deal with them real early in my job there.

Funniest thing that ever happened is we were told to stop serving sprouts because of all the recalls, but corporate never decided to change the menus. We we have the calls every once in a while about 'Hey, no sprouts', and they understood. But then some people would just go on about 'Oh my gosh, you didnt put the sprouts on. You dont serve them? Well im not coming there again.' Well fine, dont. I like serving customers, you not included.

If they don't come up to you, smile, and ask if you need help, they get in trouble.

I currently work at a Tim Hortons. Man, the shit I put up with. Most of the time you just nod and say sorry so they leave.

I've always found it interesting that people are always so quick to try and insult the people that handle their food.

Yeah I know and it's unfortunate. I have worked retail myself. That doesn't change the fact that there is a person behind that smile.

Not to mention getting to know my asshole fellow co-workers at said retail job only fuels the fire of my hatred towards the smile, since I saw the fake ass smile in action every day for 6 months.

I pulled into a Sonic a day or two ago and there was this loud repeated honking goin' on. It was very close, so I thought maybe something had happened to my horn, so I was sitting there awkwardly hoping it wasn't me.

A few minutes after I place my order, I overhear a man yelling that he's been waiting. The employee asks him if he was the one honking, to which he replies yes and follows by cussing and pulling out of the drive-in.

._.

Right there with you, when it comes to food I am overly forgiving of mistakes.

Some people are just assholes X3. I work in a store and know enough about how shitty certain customers can be. I've never bitten back against a customer yet, and I've had some REALLY bad customers getting stupidly angry for the most inconsequental mistakes...

I work at a gas station and one day some lady came in wanting $20 in her new truck. I got it for her and finished her up. She left and I went on my business (it was very busy that day). Not 30 seconds later she backs up, full speed into the spot she was just in (very dangerous and stupid thing to do at a busy gas station) and starts freaking out because her gas gauge still read empty. I got someone more experienced to handle it and I just watched as I got the other guys cars as well as my own.

This other guy is the nicest, most cool headed and polite person that works there. This lady starts to scream at him about her A"missing" gas and starts making wild, insane accusations.

"Maybe your pumps are dry! Did it spill out? Did you even give me the gas or did you just steal my money!" etc etc. A manager comes out, deals with her screaming, gives her the number for corporate and then she leaves. 5 minutes later she comes back saying "My gas gauge went up after I drove around for a bit."

And instead of apologizing for her outrageous and stupid behavior she just blamed us again.

Poor Danny, he didn't deserve to have that ***** yell at him.

I agree with this. Thats why I make it a point to show my real feelings in my tone of voice and on my face when working. I frown and act very hostile towards rude customers and tell them off when they do something they're not supposed to. I hate that fake smile crap.

what always gets me at my job is because we have a policy to give away free things to customers who have been wronged we get people who just complain to get free shit and we can't even call them on it. "i just came through your drive through and you got my incredible long order wrong i want you to remake it and give it to me free", i cant say no even though i had been working for hours and never heard that order (but hey its not my profits at stake).

I got to tell a customer that "if the job we're doing is not good enough for you then you're welcome to go somewhere else"

Here's the story. I work in a movie theater. We have a limited number of employees and it's not unusual for business to be heavier than anticipated.

That being said, Twilight came out this weekend. We got hammered all weekend and Sunday was particularly bad because it was raining as well. Tourist area + beach, + rain = tons of business.

The entire day everyone on my staff was running all over the building trying to get everyone in and ready for their shows. I'm even on a register as the only part of management there that day (I'm supposed to keep myself free to roam and fix problems and be available to customers)

This woman come storming up to the front of my line and starts bitching me out about why there's only so many of us working and that I needed to be calling people in. I told her we were short-handed on Sundays, which we are with people being unavailable for religious reasons. Her words were "You're not doing your fucking best call some more damn people in here! Can we buy tickets anywhere else?

"Yes, you can buy them here at the concession stand too"

"Well you need to tell the people that!"

"Ma'am, there are signs all over the front of the theater that say that. We are all doing the best we can and if that isn't good enough for you then you can go to another theater"

Normally, I'm a little less blunt with customers, but this old ***** took the time to get out of her line, come up and jump mine, to get in my face when every one of us was working our asses off.

Old woman can go fuck herself. It's one thing if we were all standing around with our thumbs up our asses, but when people are sweating, panting, and clearly working hard, that shit is uncalled for.

I may lose my job, but at this point I don't give a fuck.

I did feel better though when the customers that heard reassured me they weren't upset and appreciated us trying as hard as we were.

I work in a grocery store.

It works like this:

If I, the cashier, make a mistake, there are four ways you can respond:

1. Finding the humor in it. If you manage to make it into a joke of some kind ("Man, I swear the prices are constantly doubling!") while being SINCERE about your non-annoyance, I will fix the error, and if necessary, even throw in a store coupon to avoid having to do price checks, or even straight up BSing a price (always in your favour). I like you, you make me happy inside, I want you to leave satisfied.

2. Straightfaced, friendly. It's OK to be a bit annoyed, because I DID make an error. If you're willing to drop it right away, though, then I'll streamline the fixing process as much as I can. I don't want to make you wait, as you're being nice, and I'll even do a price-check myself if necessary.

3. Annoyed. If you're being passive aggressive about my error, you're only going to spawn more, because you've reached "unpleasable but non-hostile" territory, so I'm not worried about you freaking out, but I'm also not worried about making you happy, because chances are, you can't be made so. No streamlining, everything by the book, have a nice day.

4. Explosive reaction. Sorry, I'm not paid to deal with twits like you. I call the manager, and send you to the front desk. You're going to be buried with corporate bureaucracy, infinite loops of doom, and generally have a terrible time. I'll even assist with the process, because I sure as Hell don't want you back in the store ever again. You're not threatening us by saying "I'll never come here again!", you're giving us a glimmer of hope.

I'm not the only one, I'm constantly talking to cashiers who work this way, with conversations including "What a lovely person, I gave her a free box of granola bars", with general chorus of approval, to this golden exchange:

"Douche. Master. I ended up vacuuming out my till for ten minutes because he said the dirt in it was making his veggies more expensive."

"Couldn't you have used the cleaning wipes?"

"Well, he told me he wanted our cooking wines thrown out because he hates alcohol, so the speed wipes clearly would have offended his pwecious, pwecious senses."

Notice how being nicer nets you better rewards. If only people would take advantage.

Once worked briefly at Burger King. When I was cleaning the dining area I tossed some left-overs(like 1/6 of a burger and a few fries left). All of sudden someone grabs me and starts shouting, asking me what the fuck I was doing, telling me I'm an incompetent jerk off etc. He drags me to the counter and demands an entirely new menu, gets it, grumps a bit then wanders off.

He had left his seat to get something on the order that wasn't ready. I'd also be pissed if someone did that to me, but seriously, if you're leaving that little on the table with no jacket or anything to mark that you're still eating don't throw a fucking fit when someone cleans it up. Especially during rush hours when we needed to keep the empty tables clear quickly. >.<
