- I cannot stand american comedy at the best of times.
- People think the show is smarter than it actually is.
- The laugh track is just annoying.
- The lack of comedic timing you get in american comedy really turns me off.

I am English though so I prefer english comedy which is probably why I dislike the show.

If you want to feel better about yourself, all you need to do is post a topic saying, "why doesn't anyone else like [insert name of extremely popular thing most people like]".

It took me fifteen minutes to figure out this show didn't possess any actual intelligence. It took my mom several episodes - specifically until the beginning of episode I don't care, when Penny watches Raiders of the Lost Ark and thinks it's stupid.

My mom still likes the show, and I am completely neutral towards it, but that's when it became clear to everyone concerned that no actual effort or intelligence went into the show.

"Hey look! They're nerds, they act all goofy! Real people don't act like that"

*laugh track*

To be honest, it's not really that bad of a show, but it's not particularly funny either. I've only laughed at very few instances during a viewing of the ENTIRE FIRST SEASON!!!

I guess the people who would consider themselves to be nerds like it....because they can relate to it? I honestly don't get where the appeal comes from. Maybe it's really for a specific kind of audience. One that's a little more familiar with science....maybe.

One of the few times I actually found it to be funny was when a couple of the characters were going to see an extended edition of Raiders of the Lost Ark, with a whole 20 seconds added to the movie. "It's like watching a completely different movie" *laugh track* And they were talking about how the 20 seconds fixes the plot hole, and I knew which plot hole they were talking about. So, it was funny because that dry sarcastic remark....well, I really like dry humor for some reason. Also, I find it funny that anybody even cared about the plot hole in the first place.

I think the real question is "Why do you like it?" Well, not you specifically, just you reading this and if you happen to like it.

For me, it's really not that funny and even with all of the scientific references in this show that I'm probably missing, I'm not sure how it does add on to the joke. References do not equal funny. It's how the reference is played out.

But, this is just where I'm coming from, I'm pretty sure there are perfectly valid reasons why people like this show, but this show is just really not for me!

I haven't watched much of the show but from what I've seen, I don't like the show because to me the show seems to be a "cool" person's view of nerds; and all the "normal" people are supposed to laugh and say "oh, how strange, how funny". The characters do not endeer themselves to me, maybe because my two favourite shows on TV (GoT and Dexter) both involve questioning your beliefs about justice and the "good" in any person and I love any media that makes me ponder on questions for a long time.

I've never been a fan of the embarrasing scenes in movies or shows, like the "shy" girl stuttering when she talks to her crush. I just find them embarrasing, overused and annoying, not funny or cute, and much of the humour of TBBT seems to rely completely on that effect being "funny". Makes me fume with hatred...

TBBT is a brilliant series. I don't know how anybody can not like it..

Also, I think the Amazing Spider-Man movie receives a lot of undeserved hate (specially from Sam Raimi fans).

I could make a long list, so I'll just say people think in different ways and like different things.

TBBT has to walk a pretty fine line and sometimes it falls short. If it gets too nerdy, the "I wanna be nerdy too" crowd gets confused :p If it gets too simple the "Gah, I AM a nerd and this is simplistic drek" crowd gets up in arms.

I enjoy the show more often than not, which I can't say about too many shows on TV. Most shows are pretty simple formulas...I liked House but it was pretty much 3 rounds of "Crap, that almost killed him" before the final "look, we saved him, we're brilliant doctors" finale...

The inappropriate laugh track when there are no jokes and the fact that Chuck Lorre has the Anti-Midas touch. Anything he touches turns into shit.

I don't give a shit about how they portray nerds, "nice guys" and friendzones. I will watch the show because it's entertainment and I'll swallow a lot of it with my low standards.

I just won't buy the bluray, torrent it or admit that it's actually good.

I eat at McDonald's and Burger King. However I'm not going to say it's better and healthier than a Wellington cooked by Gordon Ramsey.

God forbid someone dislikes something you like or likes something you dislike. I mean...fucking opinions, am I right?

Still, OP, you want to know why I despise The Big Bang Theory? It's because the writing is pedestrian, the "comedy" is nothing but watered-down cliches and references, the characters are unlikable caricatures of nerd culture (and by nerd culture I mean how people who're stuck in a high-school mentality see nerds), and the "drama" is ham-fisted and predictable.

Seriously, the show's best parts are worse than the worst bits of Two and a Half Men.

It's awful. I don't care if people like it but don't try to tell me it's a good show. I'd rather watch new episodes of Scrubs or The Simpsons. Or, worse, I'd even watch new Family Guy over The Big Bang Theory.

And that's just one of many examples that shows that many of their jokes just don't work. Yes, there's a good one once in a while but i'd never bother sitting through all the bad jokes, just to get to the good ones.

Meanwhile, the viewers - clad in tight cheenos, thin shirts, watching the big bang theory on their iPod - are giggling away "Hurhurhur, I'm such a nerd! I watch the Big Bang Theory! I understand an obvious reference to a video game console created within the last 15 years! I'm so nerdy!"
That's why I can't stand it. It's an intolerable show with poor humour and the MAJORITY of people (note: majority) who watch it should be put into a sack and beaten with a war hammer.
This sums up my feelings for the show.

Also add that ***** girl whose name i don't know but don't care about.

I don't like it. It just wasn't that funny. I can't necessarily explain why it's not funny - I just don't find it funny. That doesn't mean that others can't have a great time with the show - if you like the humour in it, that's great.

It just doesn't click with me. I like the type of humour found in books like Catch-22 or Hitchhiker's or the film "Burn after reading". I don't find that much of it in The Big Bang Theory.

I've recently been re-watching F.R.I.E.N.D.S (I still don't know what the title stands for, but whatever), and I notice they tend to cut Ross off, whenever he wants to spew out a fact. I assume that's because the writers don't think the general audience is smart enough to understand, or will think they're in school instead of watching "the idiot box", so they just find some way to cut it off and make it funny. Meanwhile, I'm saying, "WHAT!? WHAT DID RICHARD LEAKY PROPOSE, ROSS!?" D:
I have that exact same feeling. :D I really liked that show (though the later seasons were a lot less funny) and it always annoyed me when any of the others cut off Ross and it's supposed to be funny when you can make someone stop you from teaching you something. Especially since Joey's 'thing' was that it was funny he didn't know anything. The guy was whiny douche but he achieved more than any of them ever will, being a professor with a phd is something to be proud of. Also, making fun of him that he wasn't a 'real doctor' but 'only' had a phd. Fuck that shit, an average GP is dumb as shit. Trust me, I'm a pharmacist(well okay, I'm studying pharmacy but still)

And I'm not entirely sure if you're being serious but F.R.I.E.N.D.S. refers to that fact that they're a group of friends ..
I agree, though I quite enjoyed the later seasons, as I felt like the writers and actors had really finally figured out their characters and they actually had overarching stories, instead of just little snippets of their lives. And I'm saying that there's no reason for F.R.I.E.N.D.S. to be in an acronym form, if it's not an acronym; it was a joke.

I don't like it because it essentially takes me and people I know and my subculture in general and either makes it a punchline or exaggerates it for laughs. It's like asking a black guy why he doesn't think a guy in black face acting like a monkey is funny.

And the writing is pretty bad too.

This is a clip of the ending of an episode of Extras that shows just how depressing these kind of shows really are.

The entire thing is a perverse stereotype. The humor isn't really that clever - without the laugh track, most of the humor become evidently unfunny (not that there aren't tons of shows that rely on this to open get viewers to open up). Any jokes are usually just nerd/geek witticisms that fall into the former category. I don't find the characters likable at all.

Maybe the worst thing for me is that I inherently hate it when people try to put their interests and idiosyncrasies together to form a sense of self rather than being malleable to whatever situation they face. The show seems to be driving people towards that idea that you are personality type A and thus everything you do must follow A's structure. I imagine people who fancy themselves nerds/geeks watching the show only because it resonnates with this imagined persona rather than for its legitimate merit (the type that anyone watching it would be able pick up on and respect, rather than it being a niche product).

As someone who is an undergrad physics student, I've met many different personalities - ones like the BBT characters, others that are essentially bros who like physics - and the one universal thing I have seen is that those who are more like the BBT characters seem to be trying to be that, sort of like they are acting 24/7, rather than honestly being even remotely that quirky.

I don't like it because I find none of the characters to be interesting, likeable, or even believable.

And yet if you ask anyone who likes it and isn't a serious nerd, it's because it hits 'too close to home'. No. Just no.

You took what I wanted to say and said it far more colorfully.

Thank you, my dear friend.

I'd also like to add that I despise laugh track shows as a rule, which sucks, as How I Met Your Mother can actually be sincerely funny and clever at times.

TBBT, eh?

I think the problem is me and a lot of other haters are stuck in that awkward middle ground where you're too intelligent to laugh about some of the more stupid and simple jokes, but not intelligent enough to understand or even notice the more subtle science references and gags. I've been told they are there, but I'll be damned if I can find them.
I'd be very surprised if that show contained subtlety. I mean, damn; they preface every reference with an explanation of who they're referencing. For a mock example:

Sheldon:"Hello, Leonard, I was just about to leave to get an autograph from George Takei-

Penny: "OMG WHO'S THAT I'M SO LOST."

Leonard: "He played Sulu in Star Trek."

Penny: "IS THAT, LIKE, THE SAME THING AS HULU?"

(insert laugh track because people have heard of Hulu before)

"I know that most people apparently don't"

No actually quite a lot of people do. They just don't go on this website.
(it's a popular show)

I hate that show.
