So recently Gamespot's review of GTA V came out. The reviewer made some complaints about sexist elements in the game, which influenced the final score that enraged viewers, an insulting, degrading, undeserved score of...9/10? Seriously? Gamespot gave the game a 9/10 and people are freaking out about it?

This is...I just...guh. I don't want to lose my temper so I'm just going to ask some questions.

1. How can you argue that a score is incorrect when they have played the game and you haven't?

2. If you by some miracle actually got the game, why do you care what someone else thinks about it?

3. Why is a near perfect score a bad thing?

Cycle never changes. A review for a big game release that doesn't validate my opinion? Where's that bag of ape shit I could throw.

EDIT: It's not going too well for The Escapist review either at the mo :/

Because people are BABIES! Just count how many times Yahtzee and Jim pointed out how ridiculous that kind of behavior is. Jim even made a Jimqusition explaining it.

I can imagine internet types getting het up if the word 'sexism' was involved.

Not that I have any idea whether it's an effective criticism in the context of the review.

Think that's bad.Adam Sessler gave Killzone 2 a perfect 5/5 score back in the day and still received hate mail over it.Some people are just idiots

Well, if they're freaking out that bad over the score, I really hope they don't see what The Escapist gave Grand Theft Auto V!

Well, it's more that the reviewer dared to use the term misogynist in a paragraph or two of her extremely extensive multi page review. That the review score was not a 10 (or 11) out of 10 is just seen as the visible proof of how terrible the review is.

Only remotely related, but people still look at me like I'm from another planet when I point out how much I hate hype.

But basically, "hype" is my answer to all three questions.

Personally, I doubt it's truly that. Yes, that she used the term misogynist gives people a nice excuse to freak out, they'd probably be freaking out anyways.

In my experience, fans are gonna fan. Dragon's Crown, Skyrim, Civ 5: Brave New World are just three games I can name off of the top of my head that had reviewers receiving quite a bit of hate for giving less-than-stellar review scores and those are studios who are nowhere near as beloved as Rockstar, except perhaps Bethesda.

The hell with all reviews then. If I can't rely on objective information anymore in order to make my buying decisions, then fuck 'em all. I'll just make my choice off of word of mouth and go by the experience of people who are playing the game without some form of agenda or ulterior motive behind them.

kind of bugged me that she makes a big deal of it being misogynistic. I dont know what she expected from a GTA game

It didnt bug me enough to send her a load of vitriolic hate, its her opinion she can think what she wants and its probably one of the most honest reviews ive seen for the game so far.

Come on people we knew this would happen. It happens with basically every big time release that has ever happened.

I don't see how it affects them though. Just because some guy that gets paid to review games gives it a 9/10, doesn't mean that it has to be a 9/10 game for everybody who plays it.

A review needs to be objective and based solely on the whole of the game itself- concept, gameplay, graphics, sound, story/plot. Nowhere in that calls for one's personal bias or opinion, we want to know if the game is good, not what a person "thinks" of it's subject matter.

If a person doesn't understand the difference between the two, they have no business reviewing anything.

How can you objectively review a story? Is Pride and Prejudiced objectively good? Most people think so. I think it was rubbish. Am I wrong? No I'm not because that was my opinion and the quality of a story is subjective. Also I don't think you know what objective means. An objective review would look like this.

This.

I'm really kinda growing sick of reviewers throwing in their personal political views on shit... Eh maybe it's just the mood I'm in. I think it's kinda retarded to complain about Villain-Protagonist doing bad things.

But we live in a world were Alberto Del Rio, as a bad guy, rips up a child sign and the mother complains. Or TNA's BULLY RAY (Bad guy wrestler, has BULLY IN HIS NAME!) calls a fan a "******" at a house show and is then made to apologize by the company. Utter bullshit, this is political correctness run amok when we can't have fictional evil characters doing bad things.

she complained about trevor being a horrible person (which is really to be expected) but then she also said how he was a good character which i thought was kind of weird. Although as i said political/personal opinions aside i found the review to be quite fair yet also being a bit more critical.

there was really no need for a personal opinion to be in an objective review.

Heh and to think i was giving Greg Tito crap for his moralistic stance on playing evil protagonists being an automatic negative... Least he didn't swing for the easiest hanging fruit and bring this up, also he gave a 3.5/5 which sounds more accurate then a 9/10.

Therefore the escapist review > gamespot review on this one. Kudos!

But seriously we are approaching the stage where a reviewer might aswell start a review listing the social causes they are championing so we can just get on with the actual review.
