Bullshit. The things I find fun are the only fun things. People playing that other crap are just poor deluded fools who have yet to discover the One True Fun.
Now, now. Let's not derail this discussion into... fundamentalism!

...

*crickets chirping*

Oh well, at least I tried.

Really though... Planning on picking up a WiiU once Zelda comes out. By then there will be quite a few games I want to play on the system that I can't get on my PC.

Okay, I'm going to completely and utterly blow your mind with a single sentence.

You ready for this?

You'd best sit down. If you can find some rope or something similar then I suggest lashing yourself into your chair.

Alright, brace yourself, here we go:

Different people find fun in different things.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT ON A STICK! DID YOU SEE THAT?!

Dude, seriously, your entire argument, if it can be called that, consists of "I enjoyed X, therefor X is immune from negative comment."

If you enjoy Nintendo games then great, go play some. I'm sure there will be plenty to enjoy. Nintendo is doing fine. They're not going anywhere. But if you're going to try and defend them from their detractors you might want to try, y'know, actually addressing their comments or countering them, not just saying, "Leave Brittany alone!"
Right. So, accepting that we all like different things, why do people feel the need to call out Nintendo for making stuff that clearly isn't aimed at them in the first place? If someone doesn't enjoy the 'Nintendo Aesthetic', why do they always seem to feel the need to tell that to every Nintendo supporter they come across? And often even when there aren't any Nintendo supporters- forum threads pop up with the OP going on about how they don't like the cartoony approach Nintendo takes, like a crazy person shouting their opinions to the wind. Someone doesn't enjoy Nintendo? Fine. But it seems awfully pathetic that they need to tell people that they do, as if it's some kind of badge of honour. I don't wander over here and get up people for liking grimdark brown and grey shooters.
I don't actually see many people complaining about Nintendo's cartoony approach. At least not around here.

Most of the complaints lately seem to be about their shitty and outdated business practices. Like furiously trying to screw over Youtubers lest they commit the terrible sin of providing Nintendo with a ton of free advertising.

But hey, maybe that's the ol' confirmation bias talking.

Besides, even if someone does choose to criticize the Nintendo aesthetic, for example I think Splatoon looks ugly as hell, screeching "Well it's all about the fun! I play my WiiU all the time!" isn't exactly a counterpoint. Especially not when it's being, as you put it, shouted into the wind, like it is here.

Your charming little footnote isn't exactly much better. I might as well declare something like, "It really does seem that all Nintendo fans are either tiny-brained children or overgrown manchildren desperately clinging to their childhoods instead of growing up to appreciate Real Games for Real Men." Except that would be dumb and insulting and, y'know... wrong.

the problem a lot of people have with nintendo these days is their very, very archaic approach to business practices. The Nintendo Creator's Program is a prime example of this. Yes, they're legally allowed to do what they're doing, but other companies recognize the benefit of let's plays, etc, for raising awareness as well as showing 'this is fun'.
Yeah! How dare they try to make money off of something they made! Evil corperate bastards !

OT: Where . Are. These . People?

Seriously.i want a source. And i want a source everytime a Nintendo thread comes up from now on. Because i think the nintendo defense force are fighting a non-existant war.

I don't even want to harp on Nintendo, but some of their decisions lately are appalling. I've chosen to ignore them, but the fact they've come down on let's players and how their walling of Mewtwo from Smash Brothers unless you get it on the 3DS and Wii U is being a complete dick!
Mewtwo isn't walled off, it's free if you got both versions but paid DLC if you didn't. I understand the confusion though as most news stories were more "holy shit mewtwo" rather than instructions on the different ways mewtwo will be available.

But while we're on DLC, honestly Nintendo has been doing that pretty well. Fairly priced on games that it makes sense with and Jim Sterling even did a whole episode about how good the DLC in Hyrule Warriors was.
It wasn't DLC until much later though to try and tempt people to buy both, which is shit. And I agree some of their DLC is good, they're not complete crap, and I would be more likely to get a Wii U over the rest, but the bad doesn't go away because of some good I'm afraid.

And I really hate how they are targeting let's players. Maybe you don't care, but I find them horrid for this.

Oh, and don't worry. I'm not putting Nintendo as the worst offender out of the big publishers. It's just disappointing.

Out of the current generation of consoles, Nintendo is the only one that I actually care about right now. While Microsoft and Sony compete in offering the "better" version of the same 3rd party games, Nintendo focuses more of it's efforts toward its first party offerings and in offering newer ways to experience games.

That being said, Nintendo is not beyond reproach. It's region locking has to stop, especially when there are so many amazing games that do not end up leaving Japan. Nintendo's distribution practices are another thing, as they short print certain Amiibos and stuff like the Majora's Mask 3DS/Majora's Mask special edition; which in turn leads to disappointed consumers and scalping.

What can I say, the gaming community in its "angry 90s American comics phase" where everything has to be joyless, stupid, juvenile, and insecure. When you're having to deal with that it's quite irritating. Hopefully gamers and developers get over it because so far their attempts at "maturity" have ranged from laughably stupid to downright tasteless and mean-spirited.

OT: Nintendo's content is fine, it's their inability to cope with a changing industry and market that's killing them. Seriously, they are still adding functionality to their platforms that their competitors already offered a decade ago. They really don't "get" the internet at all, it seems.
Though considering how the market seems to have "changed" right into evolutionary deadends, reckless spending, company after company folding, rampant egoism, and catering to an ever-shrinking market instead of diversifying I can understand why Nintendo refuses to be associated with that kind of crap.

Gonna have to add to the echo chamber here, but each persons idea of fun can be waay different.
Everyone keeps harping on Nintendo for not bringing the best graphics or for being "kiddie"
I would've thought it had been the more recent thing of their new Youtube policy. Or their Amiibo DLC practice. Or their poor marketing of the Wii U.

I love some of Nintendo's games, I just don't see why I should blindly accept everything a company does because I've enjoyed some of their work.

Due to a factory defect sarcasm meter, I'm unsure if you're serious or not...

My point is that yes they can do what they're doing. perfectly within their legal rights, aside from doing it to reviews...is another kettle of fish. But most other companies have realized that the publicity and genuine passion for their games leads to public goodwill and more sales and profits, while Nintendo seems to be 'missing' this...and by using this strongarm tactic they're irritating and isolating some of their most passionate fans, which in turn creates negative public opinion.

What can I tell you man, I'm fed up with Nintendo's cutesy-wubby Teletubby style.
Aren't you equally tired of the whole "we spend 3 months designing the right blood splatter when you shoot the guys head off", I'm not saying violence is bad, but the fact so many will dismiss nintendos style as "childish" or "only for kids" is equally as childish as it suggests that you're judging your maturity by the age rating on the front of the box.

Or to put it another way, which film was more intellectually stimulating; Toy Story or the Human Centipede? Variety is the spice of life, don't cut out icecream from your diet.

Personally I enjoy a wide range of games, I've been playing pokemon quite a bit, but in the last month I've been getting the 100% completion in Sleeping dogs (ie the game where you can routinely jam a guys face into an ice chipper)

THAT SAID; I will totally agree Nintendo needs to sort out their relationship with lets players and other online media, they are missing out on so much advertising when they limit the usage of their IPs.
I just don't fancy the style anymore man. It's an opinion, it happens.

As a Wii U and 3DS owner, the lack of insane graphical horsepower and many games coming out of their studios with "cutesy" visuals doesn't bother me, but there are plenty of people who bash on Ninty for their kid-friendly image. Those types have been around since the Genesis/Mega Drive days and will likely persist even if Ninty makes a few 1st party M-rated games. But I think much of the current bashing comes from several other things:

Their antiquated decision process - An ex-NoA executive has said the Japanese leads have to agree on everything. A single dissenting opinion can brickwall any idea. This is affecting all areas of their business.

The poor PR practices - What's been happening on Youtube for years and especially their Content Creator Program are really bad. Even though they are in their legal rights, most other companies have proven that it's best to let people use footage of their games for profit without making them jump through hoops.

They also couldn't even advertise the Wii U properly for its first two years. Anyone who doesn't pay attention to video games thought it was an over-priced add on for that Wii thing that has sat in the closet for the past 2-3 years.

Their unwillingness to take risks when they are just about the only major game company that can - We've got tons of Mario and Pokemon games, but things like F-Zero haven't been dusted off in years. They revived the Metroid series from an 8 year hiatus and made critical hit after hit,[footnote]As a Metroid fan, I'll admit they aren't the financial juggernauts that Mario games are, but Ninty can't say that Metroid wasn't profitable.[/footnote] only to re-shelve it in 2010 after releasing the one game that anyone who was savvy about the fanbase knew shouldn't have seen the light of day until gameplay tweaks and major story rewrites happened. It's a miracle Star Fox is getting a new game this gen.

Besides the advertising for it, the Wii U could have been slightly more powerful, and/or Nintendo could have spent more money on 1st party games for it and secured payed 3rd party exclusives for it in its first year.

They can also can weather having extra unsold Amiibos, limited edition console and games sit in warehouses for a while, but they would rather underestimate demand and let scalpers lick up anything they can grab. It might make their properties look more desirable, but any fans legitimately interested in those things are lucky if they can find them at retail price.

The gimmicks - Boy, does Nintendo loves gimmicky controls. Sometimes touchscreen and motion controls have fit the games, although they've shoved in gimmicks in games that don't benefit from them. People have even written off the Wii U because of its gimmick of a giant tablet/game pad hybrid, and I don't really blame them after some of the broken gesture-based games I've played since the DS first came out.

I actually like Nintendo's approach to video games. If they were to change it much, I think I would only follow PC gaming, because I don't like Sony or Microsoft's methods to video games at all.

It isn't "kiddy" to be family friendly. It's responsibility.

My logic for this is that there are already plenty of other platforms to get "adult" content. I believe in there being a balance in things, and the current way things are is not balanced.

Eh, they have their strengths and weaknesses. They're just different from most other developers today. They tend to forge their own path rather than walking down well traveled roads, sometimes with success, sometimes with embarrassing failure. Regardless, we all benefit from their existence.

I tend to defend Nintendo a lot on this site, but I also think this site has a strong anti-Nintendo bias. Remember the ludicrous Tamagotchi Life controversy? People jumped on Nintendo's ass without even knowing what the game WAS, and why it had to be patched in the first place. I'll happily side with legitimate gripes against Nintendo, like their BS youtube policies, but not the ridiculous knee-jerk reactions I often see.

Great another "people shouldn't be mean to Nintendo" thread which just so happens to leave out all the actual reasons people are annoyed at Nintendo and cheery pick a few points from years ago.

Just a heads up most people who use "Nintendo only makes kiddy games" and "Nintendo graphics are awful" arguments are just taking the piss out of Nintendo diehards, if people use "shit multiplayer infrastructure", "too many iterations of the same handheld console without meaningful changes", or "it took how many years to bring Xenoblades and Pandora Towers to North America" as arguments then they're actually harping on some of the stupid shit Nintendo does.

Whilst you might not do this (ignoring the footnote where you totally did this), are you honestly saying you never see people complaining about Call of Duty, battlefield etc? Because I don't really believe that. And while you're right that complaining about nintendo on this forum is like shouting your opinions to the wind, this is a videogame forum, people talk bullshit about games to people we'll most likely never meet. Nothing we say here matters. It's all shouting pointless opinions to the wind. (I mean, hell, best case scenario you head over to the religion and politics section where you can shout pointless opinions about shit that actually does matter to the wind, but it still adds up to nothing.)

So the real question is, why is it such a problem that some people don't like nintendo much. People complain about everything, gamers are a whiny bunch, but these threads keep popping up. 'Why do people hate nintendo?'. A variety of reasons. Why do you have such a persecution complex about it?

For the record, I've no intention of getting a wii U, but have a 3DS, think most of nintendo's first party games look either bland (most mario games since galaxy, splatoon, kirby, oh my god Captain Toad) or good, but not for me (Smash bros/ mario kart), but plenty of third/second (no idea what the precise definition is of those) are pretty cool/ goddamned awesome (Monster hunter, Bravely default, Shin Megami Tensei, the massive DS library). And Zelda games are often awesome, and Metroid games were awesome, up until they handed the series to Team Ninja and ruined EVERYTHING! So don't go calling me an insecure-publicly-putting-down-nintendo-er.

If Nintendo does something stupid in someones eyes they can call them out on it just as other people such as yourself can make positive comments on them.

Just because you find Nintendo games fun doesnt mean other people do I like a few but jeez they are behind the times they used to be so forward back in the day with the NES and SNES but it just feels like they are desperate to hold on to those glory years which is a bit sad as they have long gone.

Imjust happy there are still some games coming out for their systems that I like I just wish they would diversify more. Also although I find some of their games fun I also find many other non Nintendo games fun. Also im pretty sure Nintendo as a business does not see games so much as fun as a way to make money of course wanting to make money and wanting to make a product that is quality provides good value for money and that people enjoy need not definitely be exclusive and in that I agree there are worse companies out there than Nintendo but they are not immune or adverse to bad practices.

My only issue with Nintendo on the games side is that Mario is overly reliant on the long-tiresome Pixar art style. Otherwise they're relying on hiring developers to make exclusives so people can justify their systems, rather than trying to appeal to the publishers so you can have both exclusives and third party games. Bayonetta 2 is a fantastic game, but I hate seeing it used as a "look!!! The Wii U is worth a shit!" argument.

If you're not in to Nintendo's style of game, you've got nearly nothing of value from their console of choice. Compared to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, the Wii U is desperate for third party support to appeal to the wider audience.

Thanks. I knew I was forgetting something in my list. Even with their first game focused on online multi-player just coming out, I forgot how they still do treat all of their customers like they are no more than 10 years old and have to be limited in their online interactions with others. Online multiplayer is still such an afterthought on a Nintendo game that I couldn't remember the problems with it.

Also, they do tiny revisions on their handhelds too much, and some Ninty die hard will buy every single one as soon as they can.

Are they? I can't recall the last time I saw anyone seriously or legitimately "harp" on Nintendo about their games being too "kiddy" or their graphics being too "dated".

And I don't mean just on this forum. I know people who vehemently despise Nintendo, but none of them have ever argued their stance from the point of view of Nintendo being too "kiddy".
