People need to stop getting annoyed that others will pay $60 for Black Ops.

Because WoW costs huge amounts to maintain and is being patched and updated constantly, so you pay a maintenance fee - comparing an MMORPG to an online shooter just doesn't work. They're 2 different beasts.

At the end of the day, it's still just a multiplayer component, it's not a persistent world so all you should really need to do is patch things occasionally.

In b4 someone states themselves as superior to the "mindless sheep" that buys COD every year. Seriously, the elitism is just astounding, I'm starting to think this site is comparable to 4chan's /v/.
"inb4" is one word. Elitism is still stupid, though.

I understand where both sides are coming from. I don't think every new installment in the Call of Duty franchise is worth my 60$, but I only speak for myself and my own personal tastes. If someone else wants to buy and play the latest installment, that's fine, it's not my money, and I'm not a big enough asshole to tell people what to do with their hard-earned greenbacks.

(I am, however, looking into Bad Company 2, which is only thirty bucks now. And playing unhealthy amounts of Team Fortress 2.)

It annoys me how its treted like a religion. All the facebook groups about cod replacing girlfriends etc etc, and how every non girl gamer who starts to play must post everytime she goes on cod on facebook, as well as anything to do with it.

THAT, my friend, annoys me.

As for buying it? go nuts, I know ill probably get it off steam full price at some point (maybe christmas) but dont worship the damn thing, its a religion amongst chavs.

It also annoyed me when a day before release, walking along a street, I saw 7 people (obviously one a time) walking with one in my hand. You can just tell that its the only game they play, other than fifa.

(Everything ive said up top here happens in my area, city, whatever, so if it doesent happen near you, doesent mean its not true, thanks!)

WOW players are much worse, but I don't think anyone is saying otherwise... Pretty much any gamer who doesn't play WOW knows it's not that great a game and is just a horrible addiction.
i play wow and i actually find it fun. i dont feel the need to play every day or even try to lvl up much but i find it fun just to explore the world and be a merchant. so yes i agree some people are addicted however it does not follow that the game isnt fun.
I played for a while, and yeah it was fun. But I saw myself getting addicted to it more than actually liking it, and I would end up grinding the shit out of the same guys all night. When I stopped playing though, I'd feel like shit and hate the game.

So what I'm trying to say is that they NAILED the addictive aspect of MMO's, but the game itself just isn't THAT great.

If it was Fallout 3/NV but MMO style, I'd fucking hail it as the best game ever created tho.

Chavs are basically England's version of Chads or Bros, right?

I bought Call of Duty: Black Ops for the full sixty dollar price tag. If someone does not like that I bought the game full price that is fine. If they start insulting me for buying it that is when I will get mad. It is not their money, it is my money. If they want to spend their money on something else that is fine with me. I would expect them to show me the same courtesy and not get mad or insult me for spending my money how I want to spend it.

I don't mind when other people buy games. I do mind a slight bit if their purchase will forward a bad trend in the industry, but that's their choice. (I can always opt out of playing if I don't like how gaming industry is heading).

But I question the sanity of people who buy console FPSes. 0_o
OK, all kidding aside. Have fun with your game. I'm not a fan of CoD series (homing knives? Definitely not for me), but I respect those who like it.

maybe they pay that 120 a year for wow because with that momeny they get didicated servers full year round, tech support full year round, constant patches and extra content full year round.

instead of a game that after the first 6 months the servers dwindle a little cause ther has been a different game released like Medal of honour

If we, as a collective worked together as a team, and refused to pay $60 for games, maybe, just maybe, we could get the industry to lower prices and it would be better for all of us. That's the only reason I can think of. I mean hey, if people made this the biggest launch day ever for a $60 game, maybe they would do it if it were $70. Couple that with the fact that this was Activisions biggest launch day ever, which we as gamers made happen, do you think they will "thank" their customers by maybe giving some free DLC or something? Doubt it.

I wouldn't really complain about anyone buying CoD but I seriously don't understand it. CoD is a FPS that is very devolved and simplified that I cannot see why people buy the game every year when the gameplay isn't hard to master or deep. The only thing you have to master each year are the new maps. You have to kinda figure what perks work best for you since they are slightly different each game. If I'm going to play any game for months to a year, the game better have fucking deep and hard to master gameplay or what's the point of playing it for 100+ hours. Sports games actually let you improve your skills more than CoD even though sports games have less new content each year than CoD. I think my loathing for CoD is mainly due to the CoD players that think it's so great and hardcore (it's not hardcore; it's somewhere between hardcore and casual and I'd say it's closer to casual) and the gaming media that feels CoD is the gold standard for FPSs when it's far far from that, at MOST the CoD games should get around an 8/10. In CoD you can't lean, there's regen health, one button nade tossing, moving spawns, etc. And, the fact the map packs are 15 fucking dollars is bullshit, you can get great games that are like a year old for $15 or some great PSN/Live games instead of some maps (with them possibly being OLD maps). Why are you paying for OLD maps?

WoW requires a subscription because when you play WoW, you're playing on a REAL server unlike CoD where someone in the game is the host. With that said, $120 ayear to play WoW is ridiculous, you should have to pay for how long you play, maybe 10 cents an hour or something. With the subscription, you feel the need to play more because you're thinking, "I spent $10 for this month so I better play every chance I get to get the most value out of that $10."

do people get upset about this then?
Personally I don't care if a game is £10 or £100, if I want to play it, I'll buy it. Same as anything else, I work enough to ensure I have enough money to do whatever I damn well please more or less.
