The irony is that Watamote can only do this because it's japanese, anime has better gender balance and equal portrayal than western stuff, I believe. And isn't every character in DotT basically a stupid stereotype?

By the looks of things it also has considerably more gay content as well.

I don't think gender balance and equal portrayal come into when it comes into what anime gets made.

Both ultimately make what's profitable but the Japanese are unashamed about it.

A show like True Blood gets and they go on about how progressive it is.

In Japan they make something like that because it's female audience gets off on it.
