I was in the grocery store yesterday, picking out stuff to make pico de gallo, a spinach salad, and whatnot when I got close to a middle-aged woman wearing that godawful TAG cinnamon-musk. There's only one person who should be wearing cinnamon musk, and that's someone who's been eating chili dogs and driving a semi for 18 hours. Cinnamon musk; the most incendiary of scents, a full-on napalm strike to the nosehairs.

I dove out of the way and went to the opposite end of the store and then slowly circled back... only to find another woman in her 50s draped over the countertop at the checkout counter (you know, people who don't just lean on a table, they actually kinda LAY across it? Like they're trying to sink the 8 ball?) and she reeked of urine, whether it was an adult diaper that needed changing or she just went in her pants.

Stuff like this is why I don't like going out.

People smoke their cigs outside, and then come back in to the front desk and breathe all over me.

That's all I can think of really. I don't spend much time at Walmart if I can help it.

I once worked in a jewellery shop fixing watches in the back. so the only way I could see to the shop floor was via a security camera. There was this one man who every 4 weeks for some reason needed a watch battery (different watches). He would have brought in his bike to the shop, but that isn't the worst bit, I would know he was in the shop by the smell diffusing through into my work area. It's the kind of smell if a hobo swam in a pool of urine and cigarette ash to bathe himself. The worst thing was, all the watches he brought in..well, if he wears his watches all the time when he is cycling and doing god knows what else, also smelt to high heaven.

The shop owner made me (thankfully) wear sterilised gloves and special tools to repair/put batteries in his watches because it was sick. All the crusty...stuff which gave out a worse smell when you scraped it off just to clean up the watch..it was horrible..

Back when I was employed, there was this alcoholic homeless dude that'd come by every few hours to buy himself a drink. As you'd probably expect, he reeked of booze and a particularly foul gutter. To make matters better, he liked to yell at me and throw things at me.

Also, a few weeks back when I was at the supermarket, there was a woman in front of me that smelled of sour shit. The smell was so bad that the cashier had to call the manager over.

Aww come on Jimmy I didn't smell that bad and you kept pissing me off thought I'd teach you some respect. Guess it didn't work.

OT: When I was in high school some freshman shit his pants how we were out to go toke. We never let him hear the end of it.

The worse, to me, is the people who overuse synthetic fragrances. For one, I don't like it when people no longer smell like people, but what's worse is it just smells like some industrial cleaner, or some unnamable smell that you could swear was meant to knock people out.

Bleh. No thanks. Just a standard, low-key anti perspirant deodorant for me.

Some people can't smell themselves or have no sense of smell and are too embarrassed to ask others if they stink.
Or just don't care... and those people suck.
I know when I wear perfume it seems to fade pretty quick but people can still smell it on me.

I once got locked in a cupboard with a guy at school and I think he had taken a bath in Lynx spray. I came out gagging and had to stick my head out the window.
I've been fortunate around stinky people, apart from the odd person that stinks of wee on the bus.

When people are too drunk their breath smells like disinfectant sort of.

I'm fine with the smell of tobacco, so that never bothers me (pack a day smoker myself).

Other than those things I can't think of anybody I've encountered doing anything that intentionally made them smell bad. Generally that just happens when some of my friends binge to hard and forget to shower for a few days.

There's a woman I work with who's as sweet as can be...but she doesn't wear deodorant, which isn't sweet. We work in a retail store and it frequently gets pretty warm in there, between all the people in the store and the fact that the AC isn't always working as it should. At the end of the day she can smell downright foul, you can smell her like 10 feet away, and the scent lingers even after she walks away. I just don't get it--I don't think she's a part of any religion that prohibits deodorant, and it's not that expensive. I understand money can be tight, but I don't see how it's so tight that you can't even spend a couple of dollars every month or so for the stuff.

She might be allergic to regular deodorants (I am, and it's not that uncommon.) I'm lucky, I found alternatives that work for me (baby powder & actual baking vanilla).

There is some sort of cologne or body spray that is popular around here for both men & women. I don't know why it's popular, (it smells like acetone to me) but a lot of people around here wear it in quantities sufficient to knock a hornet out of the air at 20 paces. Not only is the smell foul, I'm also highly allergic to it...so much so that just being in proximity to a person wearing it will cause me to have extreme trouble breathing while they are near, and rashes/blisters to break out on my hands/arms/neck a couple of hours later.
People who reek of marijuana are also not pleasant to be around.

I went to the supermarket at 3pm on a sunday (shops shut at 4pm sunday in the uk) so one of the aisles was selling discount stuff that wouldnt keep over the weekend like loafs of bread for 10p etc. I happened to walk past this aisle (didnt pick anything up) and i walked past a tramp. Obviously he stunk because he was a tramp but god it was awful ive never smelled anything worse

Yet more disgusting than his odour was the greed of all the other shoppers fighting over these bargains when theres a man here who might only have a few pence waiting patiently to see whats left for him

When I visited London last summer there was few times during rush hour while ridding the underground the smell of perfume and deodorant sprays became quite over bearing. There have been plenty of times back home in the states when I had to be in close proximity to some pretty foul smells but those train rides were awful.

Not something that could in any way be helped by the man in question, but a few years ago I was in hospital for a bit and I got put next to an old man with severe circulation problems in his legs and his foot went gangrenous while I was there. Every so often you'd get the smell of rotting flesh waft over. You could see his foot sticking out from under the covers, slowly going black and decomposing. Felt pretty sorry for him.

There's a pic on wikipedia that is pretty much exactly what this poor guy's foot looked like if anyone's interested.

I have hyperosmia... and I have to use the London Underground every damned day... and it's the height of summer in the UK atm. Thankfully, just the three stops and I can breathe (reasonably) fresh air whenever we get to a stop.

So, pretty much every damned day... and that includes a lot of the people I work with. It's tolerable some of the time, but other's it's enough to make me retch. :/

Used to work for a company that did paintball and laser skirmish. We had this one guy come in that was pretty much the exact stereotype of a fat basement dwelling gamer who hadn't showered for 6 years. This guy could be smelt from about 20 metres away and it was the most fucking disgusting smell ever. It was like sweat that had been fermented in dog shit for four weeks in the summer heat. Literally wanted to throw up every time I caught a whiff.

When I worked in video rentals I've smelt one or more of the following on people:
Chicken houses
Urine
DEEP cigarette smell, like an old ashtray. I was raised around a family of smokers so the smell is fairly habituated to me but this was a stout smell indeed.
Bacon grease (Best I can approximate it)
Sewage
Sour milk

Ahh, takes me back to the good old days of being in school, where all the assholes in the year would wear what smelt like an entire can of Lynx (that's Axe for everyone else methinks) a day. Made breathing PE changing rooms something akin to sucking on an exhaust pipe, the joy. And of course, at 16 you know that reeking of deodorant and hair products is what gets the girls.

Also, people that strongly reek of weed when they sweat. I've got nothing against the stuff (and it smells nice), and I know it does that a bit, but it's a combination of a few factors that make it icky; they smoke so much that they smell that much, the smoke so much that they smell that often and that they actually sweat that much.

I only remember one instance where there was this overweight girl I was sitting next to in a computer lab in college. To put it bluntly, she smelled like shit.

Reminds me of this one internet lolcow named Christian Weston Chandler, or Chris-Chan. People who have been around him in public claimed that he smelled of rotten watermelons. Mainly because he uses Axe to substitute for actual bathing.
