People take games too far?

You should be fine if you just tell him what you think of his behavior. Because from your description of him he just seems to take jokes a little bit too far so pointing out his very frustrating/annoying behavior should cause him to either cease with the behavior or at least exhibit it less often while you are present. Though other than that he sounds like a normal minded person (maybe a little annoying now and then, but normal) so no, he won't pick up a drill and start a murdering everyone in sight.

Though as far as video games effecting someone enough to make them physically harm another person, I believe they can. A person who goes out and harms another human intentionally is generally unsound (often times in more ways than one) and was just waiting for a catalyst to trigger them. Which a video game can very well be such a catalyst for such unsound individuals, though a video game itself cannot force someone to start injuring others.

I do know people who behave like this and I as well often quote video games, internet memes, and such. Though it's only around my closest friends and we'll cease when asked, as it can get very annoying quickly.

I don't think that's a sighn that he might try to recreate something violent from from a game. He probably just needs to get out a bit more. I think it would be pretty funny to hang around someone who makes references to games like that, half my friends haven't even heard of fallout 3.

The only way to find out if he is dangerous at least scientifically lock him in a room with a friend you don't like and sharp stabbing weapons. Oh yes make sure you let them know there is only one winner. Then leave suddenly while cackling this should see if this dear kind sir is insane or not.

So I have a friend. He is the kind of guy who quotes Zero Puntuation in convosation and makes way to many game refrences. Recently, after a few days of fallout 3, he has started to call coke 'nuka-cola' and laughs at other people because he has more bottle caps then us.

Now I don't think he is the kind of guy who would hurt someone (mainly because is isnt physically strong enough...) but is it these kinds of people who decide to attack someone with a drill because they saw it on a game? Or is his constant - ever so annoying refence to games just a harmless frustration?

So do you know anyone like this? Do you do it? Do you think people really CAN be effected by games to the point they will hurt someone?
Your boy just needs a reality check. Preferably made payable to the back of his head. He's harmless, though he may actually do something drastic if you do give him one to the back of the head.

The type of people who are influenced by games into doing something utterly psychotic are just as likely to have been influened by Iron Maiden and Van Halen songs and Arnold Schwarzenegger films.

I say every other time because cake seldom comes up in a conversation. Maybe once a week.

I had a friend who quoted everything "funny" he heard on Comedy Central. Emphasize the word "had" a friend.

"CHARLIE MURPHY! YEA~YAH! O~KAY!" And other phrases, are now the most unfunny insults to my person, it almost hurts when people say it. He made Dave Chapelle quotes unfunny, that ain't cool with me man.

Video game versions of that guy? No, unheard of. Send him to a psychiatrist. Tell him to look up "Haldol".

You don't have anything to worry about until he uses internet acrynomns in real life and refers to his in game husband his "hubby" in real life. I had a friend that did this and he corrected himself after much ridacle.

But I think every gamer uses some Game refrences in real life. Me and my friends do, but nothing very obvious.

I don't see the problem, if he's quoting something him and you/your friends play or watch then you'll all get what he's on about (in a kind of inside jokes kind of way)?

Me and a few friends regularly quote Spaced and Alan Partidge, but that's because we've all watched it loads, but if he's doing it constantly maybe you could just let him know and he might tone it down a bit?

I get the feeling he may be trying to start inside-jokes. In my humble opinion, if he starts saying it to strangers (e.g. If he goes to a supermarket, would he ask them what isle the Nuka-Cola is?) he needs some help and to be restrained from his gaming. Introduce him to learning an instrument, or get him into some sort of sport. Take his mind off it all

http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/affect.html (Sorry, it's one of my pet peeves. Well, bad grammar in general.)

It's likely as not harmless nerdism. It's not going to affect him, or likely have any lasting effects on him. It's similar to getting a phrase stuck in your head and repeating it a lot. It'll wear out, and he'll stop spouting it all the time.

It's no different than someone quoting the living shit out of a movie or tv show. If you're really worried about it, talk to him. Just saying something might be able to snap him out of it.

On the other hand, it'll also make you look like an over-reacting Jack Thompsonite.

I suspect he's doing this because he's trying to amuse you, not because he's obsessed about games. Cut him some slack, dude.

Do you think people really CAN be [affected] by games to the point they will hurt someone?
The jury's still out. There's been scientific findings to support both possibilities.

I suspect the truth of if a game or movie can influence somebody to do something stupid is simply a matter of whether or not they are susceptible to suggestion. The likelihood somebody will be vulnerable because of computer games is much lower than if they're under the influence of drugs or peer pressure.

I say leet sometimes, although it is usually after something fails miserably, so it depends on the situation.
