I've never been drunk, and the only stuff I can stand to drink/have is strawberry jelly shots. What? They taste like cough medicine, I love that shit. I only have them maybe 2 or 3 times a year though, and I do get headachey and tired from them.

Me not drinking really just comes from not liking the taste, and I see getting drunk as kinda pointless. Not to mention the fact that alcohol is fricken' expensive.

As for recreational drugs, I have zero interest in them. I've been offered weed countless times, but it's never appealed to me. Also, the people I know who take drugs are jerks. I know all drug users aren't, but still, haha.

I do like the smell of cigarettes though, but i'd never smoke one.

I don't even like taking drugs for medical reasons, if I can live with the pain i'll just keep on going.

So yeah, just personal preferences I guess, drugs and alcohol have never appealed to me.

I take the odd drink, but it's very rare. I don't like the taste and I would rather think clearly than be buzzed. The other reason being my body can't handle it well. Makes me feel ill (and not the drunk kind of ill. My gut cramps up and I'm in a lot of pain).

As for recreational drugs, as I mentioned before, I don't like it when I can't think clearly. I also:
-am afraid of needles
-have a sensitive respiratory tract that goes nuts when I'm in bad air, especially if it's from tobacco or marijuana
-have really bad sinuses
-have sensitive skin
-have a really sensitive stomach
-am an absolute coward

So I'm pretty much out of options. Also in my line of work I know how a lot of drugs work, and since I hate what ketamine can do to cats (ketamine and mixtures with other drugs like diazepam and propofol are commonly used with cats and dogs) I would rather that shit not happen to me. Physically manipulating a cat on ketamine is like trying to position a badly jointed action figure that isn't made out of plastic.

Can't really comment, since I drink occasionally and am looking into getting a medical marijuana growers license (to treat chronic pain from various injuries, because I have bad reactions to every opiod painkiller I've tried)... but I would like to point out that caffeine is a recreational drug. One that's very hard to avoid in any land full of pre-packaged food and drink. Most straightedge people I've met are heavily addicted to the stuff (to the point of getting the shakes during rare withdrawals), usually in the form of energy drinks.

...that's the only drug I've ever been addicted to. I find alcohol to be much less dangerous for me.

Anything with alcohol in it tastes terrible to me, so I avoid it as much as I can, occasionally trying a sip to see if it has changed, which it inevitably hasn't. I have a very hard time understanding the apparent appeal of it. I assume other people are tasting something I am not. Either that or they revel in reducing their mental age to about 7 and throwing up everywhere enough to push through the taste, as my flatmates during my first year at university seemed to enjoy doing on a regular basis.

I have never used recreational drugs. I don't think my mental state would benefit from it at all, and that is one thing I would like to keep healthy if possible...

No drugs or alcohol for me. I hate feeling fuzzy, dizzy, out of control or otherwise intoxicated in any way. The health benefits is just a nice side bonus.

Since I'm underage, no, I don't do either, although I've had a taste of some alcohol. I didn't like the taste, but I feel as if I'm not going to avoid drinking later in life. Drugs, however, never going to touch those. Seems like a real pain in the ass to get, associating yourself with shady types in back alleys, an expensive habit, marijuana apparently fetching $400 dollars/ounce in my area[footnote] According to priceofweed.com. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like a reliable site, but...[/footnote], in addition to being prone to fucking your life up, if the large amounts of anti-drug propaganda and considerable number of anecdotes from everybody else are to be believed.

Drinking, I have nothing for or against. Drugs, seems like a long term way of killing yourself slowly.

I used to teetotal and never touch anything more potent than headache tablets. But I had some major changes in my life that altered my attitude towards things and I tried most everything under the sun at one point or another. opiates, coke, acid, pot etc. I never really actively sought it out but I took it when offered and I had a really fun time. I enjoy getting plastered the odd time, but have always had a good time and danced the night away with pretty ladies or just came home and chilled out listening to some music. I never plan to get drunk or feel I 'need' a drink. It is just fun every once in a while to let my hair down.

But I will be honest I think most drug people make far too big a deal out of drugs and how it makes you "feel" usually I will smoke a joint if it is passed to me but honestly most of that stuff is pretty immature and you don't really need it. That and watching friends destroy themselves with these things when I was younger always made me more aware of the effects. Just chill out, have fun and drink a couple of beers to lubricate the social anxiety and leave it at that.
Except acid, you should all try acid

Never ever even lit a cigarette, let alone smoked, drank, or taken medication outside Tylenol and that stuff they give you when they rip your tonsils out. Just never felt the urge...

Never drink, never done drugs. I'm mormon, but I never really understood the appeal anyway.
I did go a little heavy on cough medicine once because I didn't want to sing with a sore throat. I didn't care for it.
Also, my dad's problems with alcohol have been pretty convincing that there are better ways to deal with stress.

I've never been interested in taking drugs and I don't like the taste of alcohol. Thinking about it, I'm pretty boring.

About the only drug I ever take is caffeine.

I drink, but I have a couple of friends who're teetotal. They both say they just don't see the appeal. Don't see why they wouldn't but whatever.

I don't drink very often myself but when I do I try to get wasted, because otherwise what's the point?

I do have alcohol from time to time, but I have never even been close to getting drunk. This is despite the fact that I'm a graduate student, which is totally bizarre. For all the little undergraduate tiddly-winkies, what one of my British professors calls undergrads, you guys have nothing on the drinking habits of people in graduate school. At least not in my department. There is booze everywhere (we have a mini fridge full of it in our office), and even the professors get smashed during events and socials quite often.

I have certainly never done drugs since they just don't appeal to me at all.

I'll have the occasional drink for special occasions, but I have never done drugs.

Pretty much every reason I can think of has been mentioned here has been said by various other people, but I've just never really been interested in them. I've never had an interest to try them, partly because the people I do know who take weed don't really have any sort of ambition or drive to do anything, they're perfectly content to do absolutely nothing with their lives and go nowhere. So that's a big turn off for me.

Whenever I hear people in my class talking about things they do whilst drunk or high (or both) puts me off as well. They never really seem to have anything positive to say about it, they just mention that it was "fun" and that they then spent most of the evening/morning after being violently sick and with heavy hangovers and I always find that puzzling, I always ask them about why they do it. Is it the mere act of drinking which you find fun, and if so, why does it have to be alcohol?

There's a line from the Inbetweeners that I really love; "Doesn't a pint seem like a lot when you think about it? I mean, you wouldn't drink pint after pint of orange squash, would you?"

So to answer the question, lack of interest and lack of understanding really.

I've never touched a drop of alcohol and I've certainly never touched drugs. It seems irrational to me, I'm not going to endanger my health for a kick. I'm also aware that one 'just try it' is all it can take, hence my policy to avoid it all together. One of my uncles once offered me this advice on my alcohol policy: 'very wise, never start'.

I prefer beer to soda. I'll drink harder alcohol every once in a while, but I can't feel the difference between three drinks and ten. There's not much point, so I don't often get drunk. I'm also far from straight edge, and judge none for their decisions to imbibe or abstain. Some of my more worthwhile life experiences wouldn't have been possible without some creatively applied chemistry.

My dad was an alcoholic who dabbled with recreational drugs, plus he and my mom both smoked like chimneys, so I decided at a young age to never partake in such things. I identify as straight edge, but I do take prescription medication for depression and anxiety.

I watched my dad drink his life away, and so the idea of drinking never appealed to me. I try really hard not to judge people who drink, smoke, or whatever, but I know that if I judge them, it's because of my own problems.

Between the ages of about 13 to 21, I tried drinking a couple of times. Grape Mad Dog (because the people I hung out with at 13 were fucking horrible), white & red wines, champagne (possibly sparkling wine though guessing from the guy who offered it up, it probably was a champagne) a bottle of beer, moonshine and, a few sips of a coffee thing. The only one I came close to liking was the white wine but everything else ran the spectrum of awful to god-awful to, tasting like a diseased, liquefied, gangrenous genital cocktail. I had to be absolutely sure I didn't like alcohol before choosing the say "fuck that shit" and the two times I got nice and drunk were pretty bad too because fuck dizziness.

As for recreational drugs, never have and never will. Even the ones that are being decriminalized are things that I'd much rather ignore.

As for the unmentioned cigarettes, I don't smoke. Never held any appeal to me and a small dying part of me still thinks I can salvage some kind of voice job at some point in my existence...don't want to ruin that.

Not really into them, no. I am a strange person, but they just don't do anything for me.

I drink, I smoke (on and off) and ive used drugs a couple of times before (cannabis, coke and a small exstasy tablet). To be perfectly honest drugs arent that great. Its just not worth the risk of getting arrested (plus a lot of employers drug test employees) and its not worth what you pay for it and its not worth getting involved with dealers. Id recommend drinking because its cheap and legal and you still get a good buzz from it

Heres some advice I can give you:
All I can say is make sure you know your limits with any drug (including alcohol and prescription drugs). If you are going to try drugs then try a small dose first so you know if you can handle it or not (again the same goes for alcohol and prescription drugs). Always know the risks and be sensible (eg dont drive or operate heavy machinery).

Avoid "legal" highs these are only legal because they have not been made illegal yet and they have had very little testing. Im not saying that illegal drugs have had clinical trials or anything but they have remained "relatively" unchanged for years.

Be careful with any drug. Over the counter pain killers can actually be quite potent and very addictive. A lot of people get a head ach and take a painkiller, it still hurts so they take some more. They stop taking them and its still painful. Little do they know that one of the symptoms of withdrawl from painkillers is a headache and this can lead into a vicious circle

I choose to not indulge in such because I'm not interested in screwing my body over at my age. I'm also underage, but even as I become an adult, I have promised not to have any drugs or alcohol.

Not that it's gonna stop me from becoming a hit at parties, right guys? Right... guys....?
