People's opinions on Metro 2033

I've gotten different opinions about this game so far and it looks pretty cool and was wondering what people generally thought about it. What's its pro's and con's?
I know its suppose to be a linear game about 8-10 hours to complete it but Bioshock is quite similiar and yet i can still play it and have fun, can i do the same with this?

I found it a lovely game that's incredibly immersive yet challenging. although I haven't made it that far only 3 hours or so in

I really, really wanted to love it as Stalker is one of my fave games. It's ultimatly flawed, with some annoying monster fights and repetitiveness. Pick it up on sale and you won't regret it. And if you like Bioshock you'll probably dig this too. Great atmosphere, decent story, generally nice to play. yup I'd say fumbs up!

I kinda wanted it, but never had the money at the time and now I really don't think about it. Actually, theirs a shop near me thats having a closing down sale, which includes games. Might give it a buy if it's cheap enough.

pros:
-interesting story
-great graphics (I have only tested Dx10)
-different endings depending on your karma
-I can say it had a lot of "Wow 0_0" moments.

cons:
-can be a bit demanding on the PC specs
-Difficulty...I found it tiring at times even on easy.

Overall
Fantastic game despite those issues

I'm currently waiting for a price drop on it before I purchase it. From what I've seen it looked good though.

can be fething scary at times, great creepy atmosphere, good story line, military grade 5.45 ronds are used as currency...... or as a last ditch resort ammo, is kinda repetetive, can be tricky to get past a few areas, and pretty damn emersive.
Overall id say pick it up the price should have gone down by now

I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to like it, but I can't even bring myself to finish it - and I always finish my games.

It's just annoying; the currency idea is a good idea, but in practice they haven't made it work. If you use dirty rounds headshots don't seem to work (and that makes no sense), and I'm convinced that they use the enemy-wave system at certain points so that the only way to get rid of them is to cross a certain point; that's a problem when you're managing very limited ammo.

I was also expecting it to be scary, but it isn't - the game's just frustrating, mainly because at times it feels pretty close to a potentially great game.

Oh, and they did something really weird with the PC settings but I can't remember what; something like they listed all of the effects, but wouldn't let you choose what you wanted to turn on/off individually. That's kind of a biggy when you're a PC gamer.

Generic "pretty" FPS, with a touch of Stalker and a steep difficulty curve. Could have been much better but it`s above average (in my book at least)

Most of the game is good, although the gas mask filter stuff can get VERY annoying. Very little room for patience if you are being forced to get out of the "bad air" by the mask. Also when the filter is close to needing changing, visibility becomes a problem.

If you don't shoot your "money" (military rounds) it really feels like almost all the weapons are horribly under-powered.

Overall, it's not a bad game, but I am glad that when I bought it, I got it cheap.

Overall the people above have covered it pretty well. I bought the game when it came out, and I loved it. Admittedly I've not had time to play it much (other things to play first!) but the time I did spend playing I enjoyed immensely.

The main gripe I did have was only noticable in crowded "hub"-like places, in bars for example. Everyone's chatter would be at the same sound level and it would be hard to listen to a specific person. At least... I think that was this game. I had it on console.

The bit I really enjoyed was heading off to the surface at for the first time when it was light. That was awesome.

I think its probably worth a purchase. I doubt it'll be too pricy.

I heard the game has pretty bad AI, and that's a big downer for me...=/

I loved it. It is linear, but I'm ok with that. Linear = no commuting to missions.

There are a few 'tap 'e' to not die' moments, espescially in the tower climb at the end, but I admit they did provoke a bit of tension and panic in me, which suited the situation.

Compainion AI can be a bit wonky when you're following them, but the enemies are quite tricky I thought.

Where it really excells for me is in the immersion. It's been a long time since a game sucked me into it's world so completely. Great atmospheric effects, subtle use of music, good voice acting (I'm even thinking of switching the language to Russian and turning on subtitles just to give it that little bit extra immersion), and believable level design. IMO it's the closest thing to a perfect FPS I've seen in ages.

One of the biggest wins for me with it is just how short they've managed to make the load times. Levels load in less time than it takes the narrator to read the little blurb at the start of each chapter. I'm talking less than 5 seconds. Amazing.
