This is a topic wherein you talk about what game/s is the perfect example for certain game genre/s.

My Game Examples:

God of War Series - Hack n' Slash / Action Adventure
Addicting combat, nice puzzles, wonderful soundtrack, and satisfying kills.

Orange Box - FPS
3 different FPS games. All a wonderful example of what I consider a good and unique FPS experience in my book.

Fallout 3 - Free-Roaming FPSRPG
Everything about the game is freedom. Also loved how it added an RPG touch to FPS. You'll certainly have plenty of game hours of fun here.

Infamous / Prototype - Sandbox / Parkour
I consider both to be great examples of its genre. It both gives wonderful parkour freedom; Infamous with its nice platforming and line-gliding, and Prototype with its sprinting and wall-running. The superpowers are a bonus as well considering you just want to do any shit you want in a sandbox game.

What are your perfect game examples of your favorite game genres?

No game is perfect. If I find a perfect game, I wouldn't need to go to JB-HIFI again to buy a new game. then how will they make business?
So true. Except switch JB-HIFI with Amazon or some other store.

Amazon sucks man. JB-HIFI has cheap prices and the stuff is still up to retail standards.
Probably best to bear in mind the difference in countries here. I am pretty certain JB-HIFI doesn't exist in the UK. I am also sure the pricing on Amazon is different to each country as well.

Crash Bandicoot: 3D Platforming.
One of the best platforming series ever, in my view.

Seriously? No one thought of either Knights of the Old Republic or Neverwinter Nights for RPG?

What about Puzzley-Adventure games? Like Monkey Island or Grim Fandango?
Why don't they get a mention?

Casual Game? Something you can jump in for 5 minutes. I'd say one of these: Peggle, Plants vs. Zombies or Audiosurf

I can't pick a perfect for any genre, there's too many good games. We're lucky in that respect, and don't forget it.

Diablo II is probably the best RPG in my books.
I'd say quake (series) is the perfect example of how a multiplayer FPS is supposed to work, Given that everything under the sun has copied it.

Point & click adventure - monkey island

FPS - Doom 1-2 and Serious Sam 1-2.
All shooters released in the past few years are very poor examples of the genre, dilluted with elements from other genres.

turn based strategy - civilization 4 bts, galciv 2

realtime strategy - starcraft, homeworld

roleplaying game - temple of elemental evil; flawed as it is, TOEE represents what the genre means

Action RPG - Diablo 2.

I could totally try to say SC for RTS but there's been a lot of quality RTS's since SC's time. However, Diablo 2 still owns the hack & slash RPG genre. Nothing has even come close.

Platformer: Yoshi's Island or Little Big Planet. And I don't like platformers!

Western RPGs: Baldur's Gate 2 - It's the epitome of the genre, with a good story, interesting characters, solid writing, varied setpieces, a variety of character building options, wide range of items to gather, just enough side content, a combat system that's easy to use but provides a variety of options, etc. There are some RPGs that have done some of the individual aspects better than BG2 (for instance Planescape: Torment did the story and characters better), but the overall high-quality blend of all the facets is what makes it the best representative of the western school of RPG making.
