It never was really random but it was inconsistent, still there was a pattern. This time around it is somewhat easier to follow the course of the conversation, but I am playing it in Japanese so who knows how the translation will be. Couple extra things improve it though. Once you have caught a persona, negotiation with that species becomes much easier, also they don't ask you for items, at least not so far 33 hours in, just dialogue choices. Finally, you can just hurt them a lot and eventually they'll beg for their life and you can instantly recruite them that way. It takes a bit more time and you may lose more life that way but it basically ensures you will get the persoa you want...as long as you don't kill it anyways.SmallHatLogan said:I like the idea of negotiation but in the games that I played (SMT Nocturne, Persona 1 and 2) I always found it really tedious. Have they changed the system at all or is it still answer random questions/throw money at them and hope they join you?Dreiko said:This game has a lot of respect for old school smt. Demon negotiation is back, eveyone has a mellee weapon and some sort of projectile firearm, harkenin back to classic smt. They integrate both with the usual persona weakness knockdown extra turn system (yes negotiation too) for by far the best gameplay in either series so far. Also finally we get curse damage nukes and not just mudo style IK moves that never work.
I know it wasn't actually random, but you did have to work it out through trial and error and then remember each demon's preferences. I still have horrible flashbacks of grinding for demon cards in Persona 2. And asking for money always drove me crazy in Nocturne "Can I have some money. Thanks, on second though I don't want to join you, bye."Dreiko said:It never was really random but it was inconsistent, still there was a pattern. After a bit more advancemnt, more stuff is revealed!SmallHatLogan said:I know it wasn't actually random, but you did have to work it out through trial and error and then remember each demon's preferences. What you've described has me a lot more optimistic.
Does that help in negotiations? Ill try it when the chips are down next time.Dreiko said:So, as you advance your co-op ranks, your team member gain skills where if you make an error in negotiation, there is a chance they will jump in and help negotiate, each in their own personal style, from seduction to threats to acting like a cute cat.
Yeah it calms down an angry shadow. It is quite helpful. Though it is done by the char who is a literal cat so if you aren't it might not work lol.Maximum Bert said:Does that help in negotiations? How are you finding the characters and story so far? at least in relation to P3 and 4 i.e ones I have played. Must admit I am still not a huge fan of their design they feel weaker than 3 and 4 but I dont dislike them either so a good story and characterisation could do wonders for me and although its not an area Persona has lacked in (even the fighters imo) I am just wondering how in your opinion it stacks up in these regards.
