1. I will never post in a thread that's about the latest controversy/internet shit fit.

2. I will stay away from any thread that feels like it's trying to start shit.

3. Every post I make will try to convey my opinion as easily as possible.

4. If someone replies to my post then I will reply back if they are not trying to start shit.

5. I will not start shit I can't finish.

6. I will not force a post if I don't feel like posting.

7. If someone (for some strange reason) takes offense to what I like and don't like, then I will try to show why I like or don't like the thing.

8. Don't ever try to explain why you like something that is "universally" hated as I will still be seen as the reason why no one gets anything good.

The rule I try to follow is to not post anything unless it hasn't already posted. It can get annoying trying to read a thread and having every post be the same thing.

Also, I will almost never post past the second page of a thread unless responding to a quote just because I don't think that anyone will read it.

If, at any point in typing the post, I feel like throwing myself out a window, I delete it and go eat something.

This has been invoked WAY too frequently recently. ;___;

If replying counts, I have a general rule to not reply to anything more than a week old in my inbox. I make exceptions if I think something is a big enough deal or whatnot. This is mostly an issue because I have forum ADHD and will look at my inbox like "I'll get to that one later, that too, that....OOOOOH, SHINY!"

Have you gained weight? Because I'm pretty sure if eating was involved every time I did that, I'd be 900 lbs.

The only rule I have is to more often than not, delete any post that I've typed out. If I didn't follow that rule I'd have been banned a long time ago.

And I don't mean that in a sense that I dislike the rules of the site or anything like that. I'm just a sarcastic ************ and I have trouble reining it in. So better safe than sorry y'know?

Controversial conversations go no where? I think talking about controversial topics is exciting, and different! Also, its a forum, on the interwebs, does any of it 'go anywhere'? (not really, no)

Personal rules... nope. I don't really censor myself. If I feel like talking about something... I do. Often times I say things that are blunt, and easily different. But they're my real thoughts. Un-edited!

Sometimes, I read 4-6 relies into a thread and a 'common' agreement seems to form, in which the 3rd poster and beyond will read what the 2nd poster has said and will try to say the same thing to look like they're smart/have good ideas. I roll my eyes because its obvious that they didn't come up with the ideas themselves...

Ugh I am rambling. Time to go! BYYYYE!

Avoid posting about moral opinions in threads about isms and controversies.

I also generally try to avoid posting anything which is likely to start an argument.

Additionally, I avoid posting in threads with over a 100 posts unless the topic is humorous, light-hearted or entertaining.

At this point, no matter what I do, I'm entirely stuck at 300 pounds. I can't gain or lose weight for the life of me.

So I can take all the abuse this forum has for me. :p

I try to stay real casual in my typing style; I don't use big, fancy words and end up using Buffy speak because I'll be honest, I'm not going to devote all of my brain to a topic or thread online to a bunch of faces. I'm far too lazy to even really post that often.

Other than that, just pretty much what everyone else says; be nice, don't be a douche, read through prior (though lawl I'm not reading a 6000 comment thread) and be respectful of someone's opinions or feelings.

Steer away from the controversial. There are people more dedicated than I to arguing out the logical point with people who's minds wish to stay willfully ignorant.

Know when the gap will close no further. If you fully understand someone's argument and you think they understand your's, and it comes down to two opinions and nothing more, say thank you and good day.

Read over it a second time

Stop caring so much about what goes on in a shitty internet forum. If something enlightening comes up, or I think it can, then my mind will change on a certain topic or stance, and that's it. I try to just accept that my mind has changed and not freak out about it, it also helps when trying to logically figure out things, so your mind isn't subconsciously going "nonononono" when you are confronted with evidence that debunks/alters/changes your current viewpoint.

I avoid posting in controversial topics, or even making controversial topics. The main reason is that a lot of the times, those topics go no where, and in the end, not much seems to come out of it. It's also hard to go anywhere because so many voices are being thrown around that it can drown out others, and then it just goes down hill from there. There are controversial topics that might have good discussions, but they usually seem far and in between.
Same here, I stay far away from threads with no right answer because your opinion will be absolutely picked apart unless you write it like a gosh darn law.

Anyhow.

I always try to make sure my opinion is clearly stated as my opinion. I know these forums would get pretty busy if everyone signed their posts with "in my opinion" and usually that's still the case even if people don't use those words exactly but there's a good number of people on this website who seem to think that they are the end-all when it comes to quality, that their opinion is fact and anybody who disagrees with them is an idiot. I do my best to differentiate myself from that herd.

Whenever I use font changers italicize, bold, so on, I hit preview before I post so I don't look like a scrub. Same with quoting to make sure I actually got it. And *especially* with spoilers because goodness gracious help me if I let serious spoilers slip.

I stay a good distance away from negative sounding threads for things I like "[game/movie]... disappointed", you know the ones. I mean, come on, if I like the thing, all it's going to do is drag me down.

I just use common sense and make sure that my posts are coherent. I'm not going to get involved in any discussion that is liable to get out of hand. It isn't that I shy away from serious conversations all the time (I actually relish them when talking to someone in person), but I feel that I have better things to do with my time than argue with people on the internet.

Rule 0: There is no "Rule 0"... Stop asking, me!

Rule 1: Preview my shit... because I secretly like to see what I type play out more in "real-time"...

Rule 2: Ellipses that shit up... It's my [typing] addiction and I'm not quitting any time soon... (unless otherwise, I guess...)

Rule 3: Type how I speak/speak how I type... It helps me... somehow... *shrugs*

Rule 4: Unless I'm giving two shits cares of a fuck dame about the thread in question, I ONLY read the replies that didn't end up quoting others using the [visible] "quote" function along the way... especially if the thread's longer than I thought it would be and/or I just loving reading replies in general... (Seriously, me, you act more like a [super-secret] lurker at times... It scares me sometimes...)

Rule 5: I'm not afraid to add an "at least", "in my opinion", "I guess", "other than that", "with that said", and/or "then again" every now and then... (Then again, with that said, it doesn't have to be "funny" to me in particular, in my opinion... Other than that, go nuts, I guess, at Rule 5, at least...)

Rule 6: Get chance and luck! (C'mon, let's dance!)

Rule 7: Friend those that befriended me first... unless I befriended them first...

Rule 8: Fear the inbox for no reason whatsoever... (Gotta have at least one irrational fear around here...)

Rule 9: Always feel fine online... even if I'm not offline... (Facades FOR THE WIN!)

Rule 10: HAIKU!!!! (Note how Rule 10 is somehow a haiku in it's own right... Huh...)

Rule 34: *wink*

Rule 63: *shrugs* Eh...

Rule 69: I don't think you're ready for this jelly...

Rule FPLOON: Follow Rules 0 through 69 respectfully...

Yep... I think that covers the "basics"... Everything else is covered in the rules unstated by me since they're too self-explanatory to bear repeating for my sake, at least...

Is it weird I'm actually jealous?

When I got hospitalised, they switched up my meds and one causes weight gain, so basically, no matter what I do, I gain weight. I'm pretty sure I could simply never eat and still gain weight.

Can we type about fight club?

OT, my rule is to converse the same way I would if you, they were in the same room as me. Share and challenge ideas, be clever when possible, and try not to say something that would deserve a punch to the gut.

Nasty, man. :( Any word on if you can get your meds changed again?

I also advertise Persona 4 whenever I can because everyone needs to play that game at some point in their lives.
Same occasionally. I also tried doing that in real life but whenever i'd ask people "Would you like to hear the word of our lord, savior, and best pal Lucifer?" they'd slam the door, with the addition of calling the cops.

OT:
1. Sarcasm and bad humor is the way to go in my post. Even in serious topics because having no fun in posts is simply not fun. You know what I mean? Yeah, me neither.

2. Spellcheck. I took honors english in high school, I both hate and admire that I took this as a rule into internet forums of all things...

4. Skip Rule 3 to enforce the bad humor.

5. FREAK OUT ecstatically when something is in my inbox. Attention is only good WHEN I ASKED FOR IT, LEAVE ME ALONE GUY WHO QUOTED ME, B-B-BAKA. *blushes*

EDIT:
6. Make sure to get a SSS rank on the first 3 rules on the forum about my personal rules when posting.

Well, I recently got a couple of warnings for low-content posts...my first warnings in years.

The only other warning I got was for heckling a friend of mine I knew in real life. I guess I didn't think before posting that time. I uttered the words "U mad?" or something along those lines. What a dummy.

For fear of my own stupidity, I normally stay away from the "big" threads. I've taken an interest in Zoe Quinn, but I don't think there's anything I could add to the discussion at this late stage, so there's no point.

Don't troll, I used to a lot on different forums. But I've gotten older and stopped doing that. However some people just ask for it and you have to remind yourself not to play.

Don't reply to anyone who calls themselves a feminist or any thread with feminist/feminism or such in the title. Like the Zoe Quinn thread, I know it's a feminism thread, so I haven't read any of it. I have nothing against feminism (equal rights in general) but I tend to dislike feminist's themselves. I'm fine with your ideal, there is no need to shove it down my throat.

Sarcasm tags because it doesn't work on the internet without them 99% of the time. Limit jokes to basic humour for the same reason (and the fact I have dark sense of humour).

Spoiler tags for spoilers and images.

Read my own post like 5 times before I post it because I tend to "dyslexic fuck up" when typing anything over a single sentence.
