Cool story, Bro?

That sounds terrible and all but you could still add some discussion value to the post.

I suggest "What natural disasters have affected you in the past/present?"

Personally, I live in the Midwest of the U.S so I have never had to deal with much, but I did witness a tornado that killed people and destroyed a lot of homes in Minnesota.

Well, I only really wanted to put out the word, though I doubt most non-Australians have ever even heard of Perth.

But feel free to tell your own stories.

My cousin and her boyfriend had to evacuate. So far thier house is still their. Can't complain though one fire isn't that bad when compared to shit the EST are getting.

Aw, crap. I have family in Perth - was aware of the floods, the fires and the cyclone on the East coast - but not bushfires in Perth.

Okay, I take back everything I said about Australia being the safest location right now. What the heck does the planet have against you guys? Have you tried sacrificing a virgin?

There are at least four bushfires raging across the state.

Even with all our natural disasters, not many lives have been lost. It's pretty safe overall for people, just not for their stuff.

I know. I pay attention to the news. Key word was compared.

Extra information for non Australians (Has a nice map half way down.)

The real damage caused by these disasters, especially those over East, is material in nature. Roads, bridges, private properties...

Because the human cost has been relatively low, onlookers tend to underestimate the overall damage these disasters have left (and are leaving) in their wake.

Good to know that you're aware about it though.

Most of the deaths that happened on Black Saturday happened because no-one knew there was a bushfire.
Yeah. We learned our lesson that day.

Hopefully that'll never happen again.

With all the news about Egypt, the Super Bowl, Iowa University's workout blunder, and the Aussie flash floods, I haven't heard about this. If you can keep us updated if there is important news (like if there's arson or not), otherwise good luck out there.

I believe the reason why there is a small death toll thoughout these disasters. Is because everyone remembers how deadly they can be because of the string of recent reminders.

It was caused by grinding equipment. As of now, apparently 59 houses have been destroyed.

There have been a few looters and vandals taking advantage of the situation and the evacuations, but no arsonists are (or were) involved, at least, to my knowledge.

Australian houses (especially in Roleystone, where I live) tend to be on large blocks of land, separated from one another by a lot of open and forested area (in some cases, hills, valleys, creeks, etc).

We also have top-quality emergency-response teams and protocols in place for these situations, and with such a low population density, there are relatively few people to evacuate.

I'm sure the Scot's have heard of it.

*awesome face*

*cricket sound*

There's a Perth in Scottland too.

And yeah, it's rediculous, so much destruction so fast, I've been hearing about it on the radio all day (I live in Perth too.)
