Which are you?
For me, it depends on the situation. Take exam results, I always go in expecting to have failed. I convince myself I have weeks before I'm due to receive them so, if everything goes to shit, I have a contingency in place and I'm not shocked. When I get them, I'm as optimistic as I can be while remaining realistic.
Does anyone else think like this?

I'm a pessimist.

Also, 95% of pessimists are going to come into this thread and say "I'm a realist!", thus demonstrating a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of pessimism and optimism in the first place.

I'm an optimistic person. Things might get bad but life has always had a way of bouncing back higher for me. Also life is much too short to let the depressing thoughts you may have get the best of you.

I'm a pessimist most of the time myself and problem is, almost every single f*cking time I'm right. It really hurts but you know, being right again and again and again just feels good enough to keep me going...

On a Side Note, I like to add some quote I heard long ago which fits quite well here:

"Murphy was an optimist."

I'm not really optimistic, I just know good things are good and bad things are bad. So I hope for good things, not really expect them.

More of a realist, although optimists generally interpret this as pessimism. I'm definitely pessimistic around stuff like exam results though, it's hard not to be.

The pessimist sees difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty. Therefore I am both.

My friends say I'm a pessimist and I have to agree. I don't bluff myself into thinking everything will be fine when it does not apply.

Here. I always think something will go wrong, but this generally gets me to make plans. Hundreds and hundreds of contingency plans for every conceivable situation. It comes in handy. It takes a lot to surprise me, and near-impossible to get a situation which I haven't planned for.

A pessimist who clings desperately to any piece of optimism he finds.

I really hate being a pessimist.

it sort of depends on the time of year. I suffer from SAD Seasonal Affliction Disorder, so during the late fall and winter, i tend to be depressed so.

I always try to be optimistic, I usually worry about things but I know that everything will be fine no matter how badly I may have screwed up unless I somehow single-handedly ruined someone's life. I always hope for the best to happen, and not expect the worst to happen. It would probably be better to have a balance huh? I am pretty impulsive at times :S

My moods can be erratic, when I'm in a bad one, I'm a pessimist, when I'm in a good one, I'm an optimist. When, I'm just plain apathetic, it's 50/50. I'm mostly in pretty bad moods these days, so I guess I lean more towards a pessimist.

Very much pessimistic. I like to think it means I'm both prepared for the worst and pleasantly surprised when things go well.
