More prove that PETA have gone completely bonkers and instead of protecting real seals spend money on protecting virtual ones.

Source Gamespy:

As part of the Canadian seal slaughter protest, PETA is taking its sentiment to the Howling Fjord.
By Bryn Williams | April 8, 2009

A guest post on PETA's website is trying to drum up support and stage a protest in World of Warcraft to stop the slaughter of digital seal pups. This action is being taken to move alongside with the organization's real-life protest of what it calls the "Canadian Seal Slaughter." PETA poster Ryan has the following to say:

That's right, gamers, get ready: This Saturday, World of Warcraft (WoW) players will have the opportunity to combat a team of four Horde seal killers. We need your help to stop them from bashing in the heads of any more seals!

Thrall refused to ban the slaughter of seals, despite multiple requests from the Alliance to do so, because Orgrimmar stands to make a large profit from the fur.

Activists from across the Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor are banding together to put a stop to the atrocious seal slaughter. Anyone who slaughters baby seals for their fur must surely be in service to the evil Lich King.

Drawing support and ire alike, reader comments on the blog go as far as to point out that the WhisperWind server where the event is taking place is in fact a PvE server, so the targeted Horde players will not be able to be physically stopped from carrying out whatever actions they want in-game. As one other comment states, "I actually do find this somewhat ironic, as there is soooooo much animal killing involved during the leveling of your characters."

I wonder how long it'll take this thread to go from discussing the absurdity of some animal rights activists to an all out attack on anyone who is a vegetarian for moral reasons...

What exactly are they trying to prove? That gamers can protest too? Yay?

This is as idiotic as that protest over dog killing in CoD: WaW. Except this concerns PETA rather than college students, and as such, I shall hold this in even more contempt than the aforementioned incident.

If you protest against FICTIONAL killings then you're just a twat. End of.

Not as dumb as their "Sea Kittens" idea. But still thick as 2 short planks.

If I was on American realms I would go just to hurl abuse as PeTA.

that happens?

I always felt that, slight irony in killing "10 owls so I could get a slighty better pair of shoes" since I am in fact "a vegetarian for moral reasons".
I really liked the WoW PETA quests(PITA or something I think it was) thought it was a great change to kill what would be qust givers for gear.

This is a absurd thought,no doubt, the WoW bit is anyway the real life seals should'nt be club, thats not cool.

Being a vegetarian is fine!
I might find it odd that someone would be a vegetarian for moral reasons, but if they want to then they can go ahead.

It's when they get in my face because I'm a big fan of beef and turkey and chicken and other meats that I get annoyed. You don't want to eat it? Fine! No problem. I do want to eat it! So pardon me while I chow down on Mr. Cow!

Protesting virtual abuse of animals? Next they'll want to change the name of animals to be less appealing to eat. Oh, wait...

I want to go into the fur industry just because of PETA.

1) Start fur coat shop.
2) Alert PETA.
3) Sell to customers.
4) PETA throws paint on customers.
5) Sell new coat to customers or charge for cleaning.
6) Profit.

It's probably going to be staged. Notice how you can't attack the clubbers? Basically some PETArd is going to follow some script and the clan will 'realize the error of their ways' and join PETA. Yeah, just like anything PETA does it will be incredibly lame.

I'd be impressed, but then again PETA matters far less than the activities of ants in the grand scheme of things, so now I'm just amused. Who knew PETA would end up caring more about virtual seals than real ones.

I'm going to miss the Polar Bearz. But I've learned that they eat baby seals so I don't know what to do.

I really dislike it when people get up in my face about meat eating because I'm allergic to iron supplements. Meat is the only effective way for me to get iron, though some of the hardcore vegetarians and vegans I've encountered seem to not understand that.
