Recently Peta raised their case against the tanuki suit in super mario. A suit that made it's appearance since 1988. Their claim against the suit, that made it's next appearance in Mario 3D Land, says that super mario is claiming that it's ok to wear fur. Not once does any of mario's games suggest any kind of animal cruelty, infact the suit is obtained through a leaf from a mystery box.
Here is where Peta's Hypocrisy comes into play. In their game "New Super Chick Sisters" there is a level where you have to swim to progress through the level. Your character has no natural ability to swim, so you have the wear a suit to swim. The suit you have to wear is a fish suit. But hey it's a fish suit right, there is no sign you have to obtain or even to suggest a cruel means to get the suit. Oh wait, to obtain the suit, you have to obtain a fish. Now doesn't this sort of back fire on Peta's anti-tanuki suit campaign?
Also does wearing said fish suit contradict yet another campaign of anti-fish cruelty? Correct me if I am wrong.

This is so beyond stupid on so many levels it is beyond my comprehension.

The Tanookie suit isn't fur, it is made out of a plant: How does Mario get the Tanookie suit? By grabbing a LEAF. It is a costume that is made out of a PLANT, NOT AN ANIMAL. It is made clear in the game that it isn't an animal by the fact it gives you abilities that have NOTHING in common with the real animal (when was the last time you saw a racoon fly or turn into cement?)

Other suits ARE made from animals: A few the Mario animal suits HAVE come from animals, such as the one the OP noted and the blue shell from New Super Mario bros. In one of the multiplayer levels is a Koopa with a blue shell. Jump on it, you get the blue shell. In that case, you ARE wearing an animal.

Mario has been murdering his way through the animal kingdom for decades: Since his birth, Mario has stomped on countless turtles, fish, birds, and been using reptiles as jumping platforms.

Mario's "horrible sins" are not the worse that Nintendo have done: Pokemon. You capture animals by beating them to near unconsieness, shut them in cages FAR smaller then their sizes, and then make them fight each other.

Most video games have you whole sale killing many more animals then anything that Nintendo does: Their are to many examples to count. Hunting games are very popular. In Metal Gears 3: Snake Eater, you see any animal, that is your dinner. Black Ops, Millions of attack dogs have been killed by about 18 MILLION users, maybe hundreds of millions.

They risk pissing off one of the most profitable entertainment companies in the world: Their attacks on video games have been directed mostly at companies that don't have the money to go to court. Cooking Mama and Super Meat Boy could make fun of Peta, but don't have the resources to sue for copyright infringedment or harrasment. Nintendo is most likely consulting a crack TEAM of lawyers as we speak.

Peta, your such a horrible organization that is not only hypocritcal, BUT INCOMPETENT BEYON BELIEF!

*sigh*
Can we just stop giving PETA attention now?
It's all they crave and you're 'feeding the trolls' as it were.
Yeah, this is very hypocritical of PETA, but do you take anything they say seriously?

PETA doesn't care about fish, they care about animals and how they can put them out of their misery.

Oh no. PETA is a group full of video-game hypocrites. Everything they advocate for must be wrong. [http://www.fallacyfiles.org/tuquoque.html]

Taking a surface-level reading of the game is almost deliberately missing the point - whether you agree with that point or not.

They know they're wrong. They just profit off the attention. Can we just stop talking about them?

Incidentally. While PETA cares about Tanuki, I guess jumping on turtles and throwing reptiles into lava by swinging them around by their tails was completely missed?

And don't forget STALKER, where most of the time is spent not murdering other people, but dogs, boars, pigs, and so on.

And you are very right.

It's a non-profit. 501(c)(3), according to Wikipedia.
Not for profits don't make money, but they do profit from their actions. They exist to create non monitary value.
Yes, like an advocacy group? Getting media attention for a stunt?

Heaven forbid.
