I posted earlier about how some Notre Dame students were protesting dog killing in CoD: World At War. Well now they have PETA backing them up.

Heres the link to the story.

Of course they're all insane, killing video game dogs is EXACTLY like killing dogs in real life.

If we are going to worry about irrational things, then why aren't we bitching about the virtual humans being killed? I seem to recall that one's own species is the most important...

Well I saw that one coming.
Really this is like the Mass Effect sex scandal it will all blow over in a good month or two.

Oh, hey guys, did you hear about that court case where PETA revealed they've killed tens of thousands of dogs and cats themselves?

This is bonkers. Who cares about the humans you kill, let's by all means concentrate on the dogs.

To help the folks at Activision Blizzard learn about the ethical treatment of animals (something we're sorta experts on)
No, you're not 'sorta' experts on it.

I lol'd at that, considering the statistics of how many animals they've killed. This line too:

With a little Nintendogs influence, perhaps the next Call of Duty game will have you unlock achievements for petting the dogs you encounter and going on walks or playing Frisbee with them.
/facepalm.

Seriously, kudos to the writer of the article for this line (last quote, I swear):
I think that's a great idea! Why don't we do this instead - go through all of the history books and documentation concerning the military application of dogs during World War II, and just erase it all. We don't want impressionable gamers getting the wrong impression of Nazi Germany, now do we? We could splice footage of people being lined up and marched into cement buildings with clips of people enjoying a puppet show! A few new lines of voice over dialogue and presto! The world is a much happier place.
People always seem to forget that dogs have been used in warfare for a long, long time.

*grumbles something about arson and kidnapping*

I hate to linger around here; any idea where PETA headquarters is?

Not when you're a member of PETA. If they were in a burning building they'd run past a baby to get the family's goldfish. Which actually brings me to another reason that no one takes them seriously, they have a campaign going to rename fish "sea kittens." Despite being the most prolific animal rights group they are the biggest bane of the movement.

While you missed the most important way they're hampering the animal rights movement (the fact that they kill 70-90% of the animals they take in in a given year, while ironically picketing animal shelters who euthanize), you're right.

"In any conflict the crazier party generally wins, which is why PETA is doing so well" - Penn Jillette

Also PETA is against pets which makes no sence since they sent Nintendogs which is a petsimulator for little girls who are too young to take care of ponnies or unicorns or somthing else girly...

The thing that really pisses me off is that there was already a large fucking animal rights group that thought fucking rationally: ASPCA, and they were around long before PETA!

PETA should go rot in a hole and die for all the good they are. About as annoying as the ADL.

I absolutely hate PETA. Cruelty to animals is terrible and needs to stop, but the ways PETA combat animal cruelty are often ridiculous and sometimes far worse than the acts of cruelty they are protesting against. PETA are hypocrites and are only hurting the animal rights movement.
